The one verse of the bible I have trouble accepting

I watched my father beat my older brother with a belt excessively, then turn on my mum for trying to stop him. I watched him beat the family dog when it was out of line. So, physical discipline is something i'd rather steer clear of personally, i prefer other methods. My childhood experience has left a bit of an emotional scar regarding this issue. And before anyone wants to jump on me for that, I don't believe every instance of physical discipline equates to excessive beating.

Sorry to hear all that. Terrible you experienced those things.

No one will jump on you for your view. Most understandable. I would say it is actually more objective than you may suspect.
 
They were even instructed on beatings and exceeding the number allowed per the fault

Duet 25:2 And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten,
that the judge shall cause him to lie down,
and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number.

Duet 25:23 Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed:
lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes,
then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.

Paul was given stripes too

2 Cr 11:23 Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool ) I am more;
in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.

He says,

2 Cr 11:24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one .

I like how he put that, forty stripes save one

Wow... Paul five times received forty stripes (save one)
that did not include being beaten thrice with rods and stoned once.




 
I will spank the tar out of that kid - my dad didn't love me enough to discipline, and it's only by His grace that I have changed, through His discipline - it says he scourges every son whom he receives in the KJV = Yikes!

If you don't discipline your kid - you are saying you hate him - you care more about your peace and comfort than his good
 
I was the oldest and I got spanked a lot. But I was(?) will-full and wild.

Its important to enforce the fact, to a child who doesn't want to hear it, that they can't have everything they want in the manner they want it.

Some people go over-board with the spanking. I don't condone that. But I have not met a kid yet that didn't need at least one spank.

And to the OP... moms don't really spank. Even when they think they did a really good one that time. We would laugh at mom spanks... Dads spanks, on the other hand, were no laughing matter.
 
My parents never hit me or even grounded me or put me in time out and I would not be the person I am today if they did I do not feel unloved or uncared about by them

I agree about the going overboard part. I came from a house that hated each other. And I saw my step siblings get spanked. I don't really have any memory of my actual sister because I have blocked a lot of my childhood out. But I was never spanked, and it was mainly due to fear of my step dad and mom. Growing up in a house that is addicted to pills and alcohol, it's easy for something like spanking to cross that line. Which is why I see it as a negative thing. It's all about how you were raised, and what you grew up seeing. Each person is different. I don't think spanking itself is wrong, but it's something O don't think I would do.
