Mark 10:9 What God has joined together, let no man separate..
This verse seems to say God is in the process of 'joining people together'.
On the other hand you have some folks who are so super spiritually unrealistic in this matter, that being single is their own dog gone fault.
Some people believe so much in God just making things magically happen, they could 'almost' be guilty of tempting the Lord! They really don't put forth much effort to find someone, all the while thinking God will just magically make it happen.
To me the answer to this question lays somewhere in that undefined, mysterious tension between God's providence and human responsibility. Yes God is provident and does join together, but dog gone it, you can't be sitting in a chair thinking it's just gonna happen on its own.
The devil tried to tempt Jesus by appealing to God's 'care' and told him to jump off a cliff, after all, God is in control and will catch you! But Jesus knew enough to realize you can't be stupid either and tempt the Lord.
I think the same can be said of God's putting people together. We can become so tempted to just let God 'join together' that we forget our part in it and as a result, we're kind of tempting the Lord.
Just my two cents.
