The Word of God is called a sword for a reason. For Jesus said, I come not to send peace, but a sword. People stumbled at Jesus' words. He was a rock of offfense to them. They did not like Jesus because He was Holy and good. Nothing has changed. People hate His followers even today because they love their own life more than others.

"For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy," (2 Timothy 3:2).

so many of today's religious-new-age products, feel entitled and don't even have a desire'
to seek and understand the 'old-real-wonders-of-our Father's heart-felt messages/promises
given with the most loving heart imaginable, for the good of all of mankind.
(unfortunately, the ME) generation has taken over and will even have the gall to try and change
the Holy Words of our Heavenly Father.

are they fooling us, the older generation? I think not, and we know for sure that their
deceptions will only lead them straight back to the one that they have chosen to worship!

While we are to speak in love and lead others to Christ, there are many things in God's Word that can be offenseive to many. We also do not uplift ourselves but we uplift Jesus Christ. For we are to deny ourselves and pick up our cross for the sake of Jesus. For he that shall love his life shall lose it and he that shall lose his life for my sake, shall save it.
 
Okay . . . I will post my 2 cents worth now!!! :) and I only hope I can convey correctly what is in my heart and have it make sense.

the first great commandment - Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind. The second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

Thou shat love thy neighbor as yourself; Thou shalt love thy neighbor even as yourself; Thou shalt love thy neighbor like yourself . . . You shall love your neighbor as, even as, like you love yourself.

Now . . . we know that we are not to think more highly of ourselves or lift ourselves above others so it is not a love that is egotistical. This love that we direct toward ourselves should be the same as we the love we direct toward others . . . We love ourselves enough to nourish ourselves, take good care of ourselves, physically as well as spiritually so that we may give of ourselves both physically and spiritually to others in need.

LOVE - given to ourselves as well as to others - suffers long, is kind, doesn't envy, does not exalt itself nor is it puffed up, the love for our self makes sure that we do not behave unseemly, we do not seek for selfish reasons but for others, we are not easily provoked, we think no evil [which knocks out our self hatred], we don't rejoice in iniquity, but we rejoice in truth, we bear all things, believe all things, we hope in all things and we endure all things -

It seems that people who come from good, loving homes with loving parents and siblings find it easier to "understand" the love of God and loving others because they know and have been shown what "love" is . . . but there are people who were not raised in such homes with loving parents or loving siblings - where abuse reigned, where they were crushed with "words" that destroyed their self worth - in an egotistical way - NOOOO - just in a person's self worth as a human being. It takes that person a LOOONG time to see themselves as God sees them, to even feel worthy of having a heavenly Father that loves them to the degree that God loves us - to even think that God would send his Son to die for them - when all they have seen is people who would neglect them for their own selfish purposes. It does take a while and there are relapses but eventually you get to this point: Thank you Lord for what you have done. How can I serve you today and how can I serve others.

BTW - self hatred promotes MORE LOOKING AT SELF than loving one's self - When you love your self in a godly manner - you have love to give and share to others because you are NO LONGER dwelling on YOU and HOW BAD YOU HAVE IT!

Love another as you love yourself is speaking in terms of caring for your soul spiritually and living holy. It is not in uplifting in ourselves or saying how great we are or how good we have become so as to give praise to other people. I am nothing. Christ is everything. If there is any good it is from God and not that of myself. Jesus Christ deserves all the glory honor and power.

For surely nobody can love others without first being saved themselves. Surely someone cannot love others if they are doing evil on the side. Yes, the world can love their own, but this is not the same kind of love, though. The love of God (that perfects a believer's walk) is so much more.
 
So instead of a believer saying how great they are or how great that guy is over there, lets point to only Jesus Christ who is the only one who is the source of all that is good. Let's follow Jesus and what He says and not listen to what men have to say. Believers should hide God's Word within their hearts so that they may not sin against Him. They should love Jesus and love all others (Including their enemies).

Exalting yourself is not the same as treating yourself with Kindness and seeing yourself as a Precious Child of God; I think some people will misunderstand on purpose.
 
Saying you are smart and intelligent is praising yourself. Only God has all the power and wisdom and knowledge; And God only deserves all the glory, honor, and praise. I should never look to myself to give myself any kind of honor. Yes, I should strive to protect my life spiritually. But this can only be possible with God. But to point to myself and say how good I am. That is not what God calls us to do. For there is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof is death.
 
I've thought about you and prayed for you all day today and honestly I am a little upset on your behalf at the ignorance and lack of empathy displayed to you on this thread. Although your terminology concerning how a person can care for themselves in a biblical and Godly way is lost on many.... I think you are on the right path towards having a healthy Godlike view of yourself. One thing that people miss was Jesus ability to look below the surface, at a persons heart, and I have found in my experience that many "mature" christians will throw obnoxious biblical anecdotes at you instead of trying to help you process and share. They do not know how to "start the siphon" on someones heart so they can verbalize their thoughts, pain and perspective in a safe way instead of feeling attacked and assaulted, disregarded and unloved.


In other words....most people do not know how, nor care to put their obnoxious "knowledge" aside and be to someone else what Jesus REALLY wants them to be...and THAT...is a FRIEND. Good job girl and keep fighting the fight to undo the bad habits of thinking and coping that you have learned in your upbringing. I for one am proud of you and I know that you are gonna be a huge blessing for people in the kingdom work of Jesus.

As I said before, it is the Word of God that offends you and others here. If you need Bible citations I will be more than happy to provide them for what I have said. I do not have any hate or malice towards you or anyone here. Should we not give all the praise glory and honor to Jesus instead of looking to ourselves? In the beginning of the thread the remark was made that one was smart and intelligent. But this is not is what is in view of loving oneself. Love yourself is in view of protecting your soul (According to the Word) so then you can teach others how to protect their soul according to the Bible.

But it is better to feel good in following the Lord and His good ways versus our own path, though. It is far sweeter. That is all I am saying. It is not to hurt you or to wound you. But to guide you closer into studying His Word and so as to seek His will and plan for your life.

I don't doubt crossnote's heart...I believe he loves Jesus it's just from what I have read he comes off as a bit of a legalist. And this being on a computer screen I can't read in to his tone of voice, I can't see his body language so I can't get the entire message he is trying to convey. I got the impression that he's a pompous, snooty legalist.

He explained that he used humor?? That went waaaaay over my head. Like WAY over because I can't hear the humor in his text. What I see is someone challenging me. Whenever I go on to a forum like this I like to use ** to outline my actions when they are needed or even my tone of voice to help convey what I am saying better.

So maybe the Bible thread as a whole needs to start using the ** so we can understand each other's tone better...just my opinion.

I am certainly NOT antinomian; but I consider myself strongly anti-legalistic. I can assure you that Crossnote is neither legalistic nor snooty. I think you may have taken something he said other than as intended.

A snooty legalist would not have made a graceful exit in response to your post.
 
Also, when folks use the terms like Legalists, they usually (Not always) are against God's Laws to be in a right relationship with Him. However, Christians are not anarchists or lawless people, though. True believers do not live like the devil and think they are saved. Neither do true believers think they can get away with a little bit of sin while generally livng a holy life. Jesus gave us commands to follow. Some of them have conditions attached to them. If you do not forgive, you will not be forgiven. If you hate your brother, you are a murderer and no murderer has eternal life abiding in them.
