I counsel women who have this problem - and they are fragile and do not need to be rushed into healing. There are no set formulas to follow. All I do is pray for each person (and that the Holy Spirit will minister through me) before I see them, and what I discern to do with each one is different each time. But always on target - and we see healing happen.
They are all aware of the presence of Christ in the room with us. Some just need to cry for what they feel they lost - some just need to do some art expression - some need to talk - some need to develop a richer experience each day with Christ - some need to just have someone tell them they are okay with what they are feeling - and some need to tell you what they sense they need after their own praying.
Most have been helped when they see the presence of Christ with them during the trauma. That leads them into expressing anger at what He didn't stop happening - telling Him exactly how they felt - and/or see Him weeping and feeling what they were feeling. This is all done by praying with them, and I allow the Holy Spirit to lead as He leads. He is the one who does the healing - and leads each woman differently. I just sort of follow where I sense He is leading the woman as we pray.
Most eventually become aware of how hurtful experiences can be redeemed, and actually be used to strengthen them and bring new dimensions into their spirit. Some have even gone into ministry to others who have been traumatized. But in the end, the Lord will be glorified through it. Nothing will be wasted in a Christian's life.
The Lord heals in His own timing and His own way. A counselor's role is to just be with the person while this is happening.
