the simple answer in truth (GOD'S WORD) is gentle and perfect and
unchanged since Jesus talked with His disciples on earth.... and
since the Creator walked in the garden with adam and havah and talked with them then.

does our Lord understand that, given how much He reassures us and speaks of fear to us? i think so.

we are perfectly loved, but sometimes that verse causes us to take an attitude toward others that looks like:

suck it up! pull it together! you shouldn't be afraid! you're not doing this right!
(see where the focus is in each of those statements? )

i thank God in Christ for new mercies each morning, and for teaching me more each day how much He loves me. i thank Him for the Lord Jesus, and that He teaches me to fix my eyes on Himself.

We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

I think there is a reverential fear of God that helps us in the battle against our own flesh, but a place in our spirit that if we live in the Spirit, there is no useful need for fear....."great is the mystery of Godliness"

agreed! the unbeliever should be very afraid!
and the believer should revere the Lord and worship Him only.

Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Faith starts somewhere between Love of God and Fear of God. Fear of God is not a Bad thing. Fear of God takes away your Fear of Man. It is empowering. How do you fear God? Like you would fear going against your Father's Will. He Chastises and Rebukes those he Loves.

God has a Staff leading to his Kingdom and Joy, and a Rod of Misery he may hit you with when you fall outside the path. A Christian who has developed a lot of Faith, should be like David who is comforted by God's Rod and Staff even in the Valley of the Shadow of Death. That is,
Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.(James 1:2-4)

Faith is a process. We are to be Angry and Sin Not. What type of Anger? Righteous Anger or Thumos. (1 Samuel 11:6-8) Thumos is a complicated subject, but one, like Honor, has to do a lot with Jesus Christ, who is a Fisher of MEN.

No.

Fear of God is the beginning of Wisdom. Not the end.

I think fear of earthly matters and demonic powers is removed when we begin to recognize and realize God's Love for us in a real way. Not just a general, intellectual way.

The fear of God is no where near the same as these other fears.

Its kind of all wrapped together. When we start to know that God is for us and not against us then we can know that our fear of earthly things and demonic things are unfounded. When we know that God is for us and not against us even the fear of God changes into more of a reverence.

Don't get me wrong, my natural reaction is fear of God. But I am getting bolder and walking against this unfounded, unneeded emotion. Not perfectly. Still a little nervously...

Please forgive me Lord, a sinner in need of your Grace and Mercy...

In Christ we have the sure mercies of David, we can know the wrath of God will not touch us. I believe this is the boldness in the "day of judgment" that John in speaking of

I love this verse very much. [h=2]Perfect love cast out all fear.[/h]People have fear, hate, jealousy,pain,bitterness... Because there is lack of LOVE. Perfect love could give people the eternal and amazing peace and joy, removing all of the negative emotions.

I don't think that this verse intends to refute the premise that some things are dangerous, and better not messed with.

The intent here is that nothing the world can do to us (including physical death) can separate us from God's love and from eternity with him. Knowing this, in time of need, can help us face anything we can't avoid.
