Leah, these questions from your friend are related to which verse or verses in the Bible?
I'm thinking that the second one is because of the verse that states not even a sparrow falls to the ground without God knowing about it......God is comparing His love to us with His love for the rest of creation and how much greater His love for us truly is. Basically, He's saying, "If I care that much for one of my own creations, how much more do you think I care about you?"

Adam lived 930 years. Methuselah lived the longest at 969 years. Eventually would come Noah, who would be the last of those who lived extended lives, who lived 950 years.
However, in the time of Noah, the mindset of the people turned away from God and onto selfish pursuits. God decided to judge the world of it's evil doings and as punishment the world would be destroy by a great flood sparring only Noah and his family. Noah was believed to be around 600 years old at the time of the flood and I believe it took about 100 years to build it. Many believe that not only did the entire landscape of the earth change during this cataclysmic event but also the atmosphere itself. Thus after the flood, planet Earth was no longer hospitable to acomodate such long life spans.
The life span average before the flood was aroud 900 years, after the flood was around 200 years. Noah lived another 350 years after the flood. His son Shem, from which the Jews descended, lived 600 years or so. Lifespans would eventually grow shorter until the time of Abraham (who lived 175 years). His son Isaac died at the age of 180. Grandson, Jacob died at the age of 147. Great grandson Joseph (who became a great ruler in Egypt) Joseph died at 110. It wasn't until the time of Moses that God set restricted mankind's lifespan to 120 years.
BUT...
And there is a lot of debate about this... After Christ returns to establish his kingdom here on earth, it is believed that the earth will be reset to pre-flood condiitions and the physical lifespan of a man will return to 1000 years.

By the way, it should be noted that Shem was indeed alive before the flood. He was around 100 years old when the flood occured which means Shem lived the longest of any man after the flood in the amount 500 years... however I don't recall if the bible ever mentions Shem seeing his great, great, etc. grandson Abraham however, there are some theologians who believe Shem to be the mysterious Melchizedek. The reason for this being that it is widely believed that it was Shem who inherited and settled ancient Israel however, the land itself would eventually become named after the Canaan, son of Shem's brother Ham, whom Noah cursed to be Shem's slave.

Thanks for all the comments. I will let her know. She's so close to becoming a Christian and it's like she's almost there. I really didn't know how to answer either question because in all honesty I never concerned myself with that. Then of course some have seen my queston so i dont have much room to talk. lol
