I didn't know where to post this, so i posted it in this thread.

I am tired and feel like I can't focus on my soul in this society.
I have made plans to go backpacking/hitchhiking across europe starting 3rd of July.
My family think it's a bad idea, cause I dont have any money really. (Do have canned foods)
I said that I will do this, to seek God, seek myself, and I trust that God will lead me whereever I need to go.

What is your advice? For hitch-hiking back packers?

I'm gonna do this for certain, so no need to mention the dangers or my stupidity. I am aware of the danger, but I will not live in fear, I want to live. I want to get experience, learn from people. Learn from Nature, learn from God.

I'm gonna start in Germany, then go to Amsterdam hopefully, then France. But I dont really know yet, the road/God will take me where I need to be.

Jakob, just practically speaking?

if you're carrying all your food in a pack, dried weighs less than canned. :)

To advise you under these limitations, it would be necessary to know more about your interests and goals than we do.

Until about 25 years ago, hitch-hiking in Europe was a much safer prospect than it is now; however, since you are unwilling to be influenced by the danger, that is not an issue.


Consider your interests and goals and go to places that will satisfy one, the other, or both.

There's something to be said about getting off in a quiet place, to pray, seek God, study your Bible. But God is no more present in the woods, in nature, whatever: He should be present in your very heart, by the Holy Spirit. You're not going to backpack to find the foot of the cross in nature, anyway, if you can't find Him at home, with you now. I'd be curious, also, and times are more dangerous, by what rationale is putting your family through stress and worry something Godly?

Why would they worry? I dont have to stay home because of their fear towards the world.. Also I barely have any family left fyi.
I know he is not more present in the woods, what I mean is, I wanna seek God as in see the wonderful things he has made with, and see them with my own two eyes and appreciate them (the woods, the lakes, the animals, the mountains. The Nature)
Rather than sitting here watching society.
I do get what you mean though.

It's just you mentioned your family saying it's a bad idea. Whoever said that will worry about you, unless there's something really strange going on: they see you're doing something not prudent, and will worry, or what else? Just saying you need to think of others in things you do, one of the great commandments of the Lord, to love others. There's no nature near home? No parks? I used to take long walks in the woods, in parks, yet go home at dusk, got plenty away from everything.

I just dont want to be "stuck" here like family. It's really complicated.

It's understandable you want to see things, but there are people picked up by psychos, hitchhiking, many more of these stories these days, the world as it is. Somebody who realizes this will worry about you, anybody who loves you. But I don't know your situation. If it were me, I'd get a job, save money, then travel, when I had resources to do so more safely. Again, your situation is your situation, and I understand being young and wanting to do things. So, I was just thinking of psychos and hitchhiking, some evil riffraff hanging around out there that would slit your throat for your backpack, that sort of thing, that it's smart not to invite trouble. You don't want to become a news story.

Because 25 years ago, terrorism, as a tool for political activism, was not prevalent.

yeah.. Everyone talks about psychos, and I will meet them and I will die.
But it just sucks having so much fear that I'm too afraid to leave and see this world.
I do believe I will see and learn more of life traveling like this, instead of 1st/2nd class to a safe tourist place or whatever.
I am afraid, but I guess I just have to pray and trust that God will not lead me into some psychos............ Thanks though

That may be true, Schizmater, but eliminating the major threat doesn't eliminate all threats. (It would be Christian of you to let everybody know where you will be, then, get some evacuation drills in, get on the horn with John Walsh...)

Here's a thought, Jakob ...backbacking in Europe is expensive, no matter how light you travel, and how lean you eat; and you are certainly not escape the hustle and bustle of society, not in Europe! So, instead of heading for Amsterdam from Denmark, head to Nicaragua; it's a breath takingly beutiful country, and the people are lovely, especially in the smaller communities. That is, you will, indeed, escape the cares and concerns of a busy society, you will eat well, and sleep soundly in "home stays" on the cheap ... very ... and you find that these peopl are very peaceful, moral, and friendly to a fault. You'll also be pleasantly surprised at spiritual fellowship you will encounter, almost anywhere in the smaller communities. And, if you like to surf ... or want to learn,
with the constant off-shore winds from Lake Nicaragua, you'll find some of the best waves, constant waves in the world. And the sweet spot about this is ... the beaches go on for ever, and they are for the most part empty! 8> 8O 8) lovely!

When you get there, you'll most likely land in Managua, head sount along the Pan American Highway ... hitch-hiking is a way of life down there ... let people know that you're headed to Rivas, or better yet to Tola (look that one up, and you'll see the beaches I'm talking about (not necessarilly the waves, there), but where you really want to end up is a charming little community called Lemon Dos (I helped build a library there, and start a bee aperiary). Ask any of the local kids about either Formacion Fenix, or Casa Verde, ask for Lideith Alvarez or Amie Buck ... they will help get you set up in a local home-stay. Ask for Juan Guzman if you are interested in bee keeping, or just want to taste some of the very best, most aromatic honey in the world ... and then go to the beach and talk with God, He's a boss surfer .... Vaya vaya con Dios ... or better yet ... Ve con Dios ...

Dont know Spanish ... not a problem, you'll be immersed in it, you'll catch on in no time, and if you want, Amie or Lideith can arrange a home-stay that provides you daily one-on-one tutoring (for less than the cost of one of those cans of beans you were going to be packing around Europe).

Go ... get out of Dodge ... fly away, streach your wings ... God be with you
