Should we be advocating divorce?

Even if it's biblically justified?


The question pains me. In no way do I think we should shame those having gone through a divorce.

If a person is unwilling to change, when he or she is cheating on the spouse... When either of them insists on hurting and hitting the other... If it is my own family (or me) being hurt...

I would!

Otherwise, I see it as masochism.

Devorce is according to the bible possible when someone is cheating, it can be it's impossible to live together, a whole different case.

Shaming is bullying, of course not. Advocating? No, until there's danger

Unfortunately these days, I'm seeing too many young people getting married for better or for worse, "until something better comes along."

It's because young people are encouraged to date so young.

I would say it's wise to not even have divorce in your marriage vocabulary. But if the need arises, due to biblical reasons, then it has to happen.

Thanks. Well, there's some truth to it, isn't there. If the option of divorce isn't even an available option, then you're more likely to fight tooth and nail for your marriage.

How much would a person bet on Proverbs encouraged ppl to do the same?

Pro 5:18 Be happy with the wife you married when you were young.

And this?:

Ecc 11:9 Be cheerful and enjoy life while you are young! Do what you want and find pleasure in what you see. But don't forget that God will judge you for everything you do.

It seems like blind dating :cool: but I´d bet they tried MORE, for the better... Like Samson did! And that account ended up another way he planned. :(

Good morning!

I know nothing about them!

But I know the hormonal or social push we´ve have lived, until today... Committed to secular life, more than to "committed" to following God´s will.

If it was easier to listen, directly, to God´s personal voice, such advocation to divorce would not exist.

The reason I posed the question is that it seems a lot of the advice here is to divorce. Now, I agree that some marriages will end and should end because of a lot of reasons, but I wonder if we would be wise to offer to pray, listen and support the person starting the thread th doing whatever they can to keep their vows.

We are a Christian community, and it seems in every other arena we argue ad nauseum to follow the bible strictly, but here, over and over again the advice isn't pray for them and watch God work. The encouragement isn't how can I support you in your vows of better or worse?

my heart aches for the heartache of those in tough marriages, as well as those who have divorced. In no was am I intending to shame. I want so much to love and encourage my Brothers and Sisters. Truly, this was a late night posted thread after reading here for awhile.

please forgive me if I am offensive.

I saw nothing offensive in this thread (1)

Many Christians sought councelling (and painstaking nights of crying) before signing to get those papers (2)

Sometimes, "an amputation" is better than loosing the whole body (3) (Mat_5:29)

There are more "tools" used like Fire Proof video... I have seen it is also used by several members of the RCC (and I told them it wa done by several Baptists) :p

I must say, I never had the word divorce in my vocabulary. I despise the thought of it. Even when things were not going well, I wanted to work on things, not give up. Then, I discovered proof of the affair that I had suspected for a couple years...which was part of a lot of our issues. So, obviously as pointed out, there are plenty of reasons for a divorce. I would say that an affair isn't something that can't be worked through, but it would be really hard and would take a ton of commitment from both parties, one of which has proven they aren't so good with commitment. My advice outside of an affair is to try to work on the relationship with all you heart, mind, soul, and everything you have. It won't always work and there is no shame if you have given it the effort it deserves. Some people just don't work out.

I'll note that today would be (kinda still is I guess since it's not final) my 5th anniversary. Kinda depressing on many fronts.

Divorce is horible....a last resort......most cases....one partner tries after another gives up.....then it reverses....
what I have noticed is when people yoke....or marry...with non believers...God warns us of this...but in some
cases people find God after marriage......so divorce becomes an option.....if we followed Gods way of marriage....
there would be alot less talk of divorce.....but we as humans thinking we can fix someone and marry a non believer...
proves to be fruitless.....I dont think anyone here would promote divorce......but many of us have been there and
only are helping those who have either already in the process ......or thinking of it.....it saddens me to see it here....but God
gives us to each other to help when these terrible times come our way.......we are all broken....navigating this thing we
call life......I can tell you....as I went through my divorce.....christian support was key to my survival...and during that time
was the best studying of the Word I had....so its not promoting as it is supporting.......peace....jo

As ive posted before i was headed that way early 2013. Ill skip details, but i will say a broken marriage takes two to repair, well three including God. This song sums it up. Without both parties all in....
