Every valley shall be exalted, but the proud shall be made low...

Psalm 138:6
Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.

Isaiah 40:4-8
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
[SUP]5 [/SUP]And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
[SUP]7 [/SUP]The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

It sure looks like an allegory.

I always thought that the valleys and the mountain tops referred to our experiences with the Lord. In times of feeling as if you are far away from the Lord and your faith may be waning would be a valley(Humility). In times of feeling close to the Lord and receiving revelation and seeing provision and miracles would be a mountain(Pride).

Prideful people think that they are the cause behind what happens. They think if they do A then B will occur. But this is not the case. The Will of God determines both A and B. The humble know this, probably because they have been humbled by God and His Will.

Grandpa,

While the language is certainly figurative; I don't see it as allegorical.

Isa 40:1-8
40 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the Lord's hand double for all her sins.
3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
5 And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
KJV

For 39 chapters Isaiah has been warning the people of Judea of the horrors of coming war siege and captivity; with a few sections of messianic prophesy and declamation against Israel's neighbors mixed in.

Here, about 130 years before the captivity, Isaiah offers the Babylonian captives comfort and promise of restoration in verses 1 and 2.

In verses 3-5 we see the way being prepared for Jesus coming. Every obstacle is to be removed. These 3 verses apply to both the first and second comings; but more particularly the second.

In verses 6-8 Isaiah is reminding the people in general and Hezekiah in particular that life is brief and people are unreliable; but the Word of God is permanant and reliable.

Isaiah is paving the way to exhort Hezekiah to trust God rather than Egypt in his dealings with Senacherib; who is about to unsuccessfully besiege Jerusalem.

Proverbs 28:25
He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the Lord shall be made fat.

Ecclesiastes 7:8
Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

Every mountain and hill shall be made low...

Isaiah 2:12
For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

Malachi 4:1
For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

Dost thou slander too? :)
Nope. Just pointing out how you focus on condemnation vs forgiveness.

5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Does my testimony bring you torments and condemnation? If so, you might ask yourself why.

Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

If your truly in Christ and walking after the Spirit, then the words of God reproving sin should not bring torments and condemnation.

I am not condemned! I am being made new by the Holy Spirit that lives in me! I follow the light of the world (Jesus) and I abide in his word and I hear the word of God and His promises and accept His gracious gift of faith that He has giving me.

Nice try putting your death on me but it ain't happening.

Romans 1:25-32[SUP]25 [/SUP]Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
[SUP]26 [/SUP]For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
[SUP]27 [/SUP]And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
[SUP]28 [/SUP]And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
[SUP]29 [/SUP]Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
[SUP]30 [/SUP]Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
[SUP]31 [/SUP]Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
[SUP]32 [/SUP]Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Why is it that the Holy Spirit leaves any thread when you show up?

Proverbs 11:2
When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
You have posted some great scriptures against the sin of pride. This applies to the many lonely sailors here at CC who have isolated themselves from their fellow brethren and have raised themselves up against the ministers of God who would have them had sound doctrine. Rebelling in contention and thinking they know better and need noone to teach them anything and cannot stand corrected by anyone when they speak their own vile imaginations and philosophies of men. They are the only ones who hear from Jesus and everybody else got it all wrong. That's what these goofy fellas imagine up. This huge pride is manifested here in many posts by users who take advantage of the high roof here at CC. These spiritual nobodies who else sit alone ravening at the churches.

Why such an angry fellow? Know you not God's Word is Spirit and is Life?

John 6:63
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Yes, that is why we should be aware of the doctrine of carnally minded men, for many deceivers have gone out into the world. Seek understanding from the Master alone, and be guided by His Holy Spirit, if so be the Spirit of Truth abides in you.

1 John 2:27
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

This is true. However the truth preached is not a solo trip. It is not an individualistic imagenary "me and Jesus on the phone" thingy. We have to have the brethren agree on what sound doctrine is (Psalm 133:1, Eph.4:3, Phil.2:2) and each and everyone must submit to the ruling authorities in the church, holding fast what is taught, including the traditions (Heb.13:17, 1Peter 5:5, 2Thess.2:15). All in a certain order (1Cor.12:28).

It is written Psalm 10:4 “The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.” And also here in Psalm 59:12 “For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak.”

Pride
is like scales that cover the eyes of the carnally minded man that cannot see the spiritual things of God. It is written of Saul in
Acts 9:1 “And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord…”

But the Lord Jesus would be revealed to Saul and ask Saul why he persecuted Him by persecuting his disciples. And then Saul would be made blind for 3 days until he received the Holy Ghost. But what I want you to see here is how it is described when Saul received his sight here in
Acts 9:18 “And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.”

I believe this wording of the
scales falling from the eyes is very important clue to see how the children of pride are blind until the Spirit of God anoints their eyes so they can see. In Job chapter 41 we see a sea beast called Leviathan which is a symbolism of the Red Dragon working in the many waters of humanity as shown in the book of Revelation. Notice in Job it says his scales are his pride….

Job 41:15 “His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.” He is also shown as the king of the children of pride. Job 41:34 “He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.”

The locust army in Revelation also had a king over them….
Revelation 9:11 “And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon. And Abaddon translated=destruction

And even so the children of
pride like a swarm of locust go before destruction
Proverbs 16:18Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

Concerning Leviathan in the sea....Isaiah 27:1 “In that day the Lord with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.”

Revelation 13:1 “And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.”

Leviathan plays in the
sea, His heads are broken and fed to nations for meat….

Psalm 104:26 “There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein.”
Psalm 74:14 “Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.”
