I need to check. Does anyone remember this is about God?

I get that -- especially how I ramble. lol It's not that, it's the anger I hate. Oh, and the focus on prove-a-point.
it does seem it should be possible for people with the fruit of the Spirit (like, oh, say... self control )
to discuss and disagree without becoming bitter and aggressive and acrimonious and defensive about it.

hmm... i think i'll put myself in 'time out' now.

Threads intended to edify the Church, worship and praise God and Jesus Christ are not popular because there is no "debate" being experienced. There have been numerous such threads posted here, and they quickly slide into the nether pages of the BDF. Why? Good question.

I saw it when you started, and I was tempted. You know those folks that can multitask? I'm not one of them. lol

I just started Numbers last week, and if I go back to Genesis (yup, decided to read the Bible in regular order, but it's slow, since I started in Genesis March 2014, and I'm still only on Numbers lol), I'll get all mixed up again. (I'm trying to figure out how Levi fit into Jacob's family, because I can't remember birth order, but if I go back to find out, then I'll end up getting stuck on when God told people something, and...) well, I'm really not a multitasker, and do have some mental/memory issues, so it would just add to my confusion. BUT, when you get to Numbers, let me know. I suspect you'll catch up with me quickly -- comparatively. lol

I am taking this long because I'm reading a bunch of commentators too, because I do want to understand as much as possible.

So, thanks for the offer, and remember me when you hit Numbers. :D
well it isn't a formal study...i intended it to be more like an extended conversation really...so you aren't necessarily expected to do a detailed exegesis on whatever chapter we are on at the moment...a lot of the comments so far have been people posting relevant new testament verses that spell out in words the import of God's actions in genesis 1...

I think that I can answer the why?.

Because too many people like to exalt themselves as opposed to exalting Christ.

That being said, I'd love to discuss God and Christ with anybody.

I'm looking down the list of topics on this board. We've got your OSAS haters, your OSAS advocates, your various groups on the issue of Genesis, End Times discussions, sick and poor debate, can't leave home without at least one Sabbath debate, a couple of TV evangelist threads, someone briefly popped in to start the homosexuals-ain't-wrong agenda, and even though he's been banned it's still going on, and pages of pages of debate over someone simply wanted to publicly ask for forgiveness, so I need to check. Does anyone remember we're supposed to be here for one common reason -- God?

It seems like so many variations of prove-a-point, I'm just seeing how many others remember the one and only point we are supposed to be agreeing about is God. So many side issues. How about the main issue? What happened to glorifying God? Remember him? He's supposed to be all of our hero, so why so little focus on our hero?

There is this guy on this board who is checking out the Bible for the first time. He's actually going to read it all the way through, just to check out God. Notice what else he's checking out because he's on this board? Eeeek! Kind of like showing my dirty undies in public feeling.

(And just to be clear, I'm not guiltless. Look how new I am and how many posts I've made. This is not an un-opinionated woman talking and I get that! So don't think I'm sticking my nose up in the air. It's too big to get velocity to raise it up. lol I'm just saying this feels like a swamp and I forget if there is any solid ground anymore. Isn't he our solid ground, and aren't we supposed to be aiming for him? How do we aim, if we can't even keep him in our site?)

And, if you get defensive. Just don't. I'm defensive too, because I've contributed too much. No need to get your back against the wall. Most of us are doing the same thing. If you need your back against a wall, join us. It's a long wall! Sturdy too, so it won't fall on our weight. (Or maybe it will but that's a good thing.)

But honestly, if you start with another, "Yeah look what others are doing" again, I'm rectifying my pea shooter and pulling out a ream of paper for spitballs.

So what fixes this? God! Remember he IS our purpose!
I started a thread on how to love God and some tried to start an argument by assuming I was going to do something else rather than what the title of the thread was, but after the contrived arguments were subdued, the thread died. How about that? Read my signature.

I've noticed you hold your own quite well being kind and respectable.
You seem to avoid the land mines.

I thought the same thing about the poor guy just coming in to read the Bible-- wow! People have a lot of opinions-- I can't deny I'm one of them!

But if you're coming to this site to feel safe--- I'm not sure--

--Makes me think if this is "abnormal" for Christian Community, or if this is the animosity that many people state as a reason for not going to Church anymore?? They are looking for a safe place to belong, and instead they get a bunch of self-righteous, insecure people just trying to get along in life; not neccessarily looking out for each other.

For sure, we all get self-righteous at times. This was just a reminder of where our righteousness comes from. If I was going all hoity-toity, I'm-better-than-youse on folks I probably wouldn't have pointed out I'm culpable (and probably would have needed a major miracle for no one to notice I'm very culpable. lol)

If Christianity needed a safe place, I wouldn't be invited there. :D

Monthly? Ahh, see? Haven't been around long enough to notice monthly trend. So, cool. If one of us gets compelled to write this once a month, none of us need to write it but once every three years. Kind of a pass the buck to the next person for me now. lol
