Noticed that Lord of the Rings is a lot like the bible, Frodo kinda being Jesus and the ring being temptation.. ect. make other connections below!
 
Samwise Gamgee was faithful to Frodo even when all hope seemed to be lost. Sam never gave up on Frodo.

Well, if you read the Silmarillion it is A LOT like the bible...

creation (by song)
Melko turning against Illuvathar (God) by meddling in the song in a negative way, thus leading to damage on Arda (the earth). He was drawn to the void from the beginning - him being sent away from paradise

the helpers (Ainur) of Illuvathar are like angels, and they helped in creation, but Illuvatar himself made men and the elves
 
I don't blame you, it was boooooooooooooooooring

but it did explain some of the stuff in LOTR

It took an hour at the counter... he even called the manager over the loud speaker. and the people behind me were complaining to me all the while.
 
Nasically the Silmarillion is about

Illivatar made the world (Arda) with the humans and the elves. the rest of the ainur helped make earth itself and the other creatures
Melkor rebelled and was allowed to go down to Arda.... he is the one who leads to Sauron from LOTR

the Elves were granted special favour by the ainur, and some were allowed to live with them... this is why they sail across the sea in LOTR... they go to a .. kinda like a holy place

there was a war... the last alliance talked about in LOTR. They fought Sauron

in the middle of all of this people were trying to get hold of the Silmarils. Gems that were in the treees holding the great lanterns of the night and the day

one of these silmarils is the green stone in Aragorns crown...

He is heir of Isildur and the crown, and as he was brought up by the elves, he is loved by the gods, so he lived long (in addition to Arwen giving him of her long life)

..uhm yea, I think those are the basics
 
Yep, as someone stated, Tolkien was a devout Catholic, and that of course influenced his creation of Middle-Earth and the stories in it. :) He also helped C S Lewis convert, though Lewis became Anglican.
