Odd question I know!
Someone raised this the other day and it got me
scratching my head for evidence (don't have head lice honest).
They had this image of God and the person of Jesus as strict,
serious, full of doom and gloom, the end is nigh etc.
I also know some Christians just like this! In fact the person
who raised the question is a bit like this they seem to think
it is a sin to laugh and Christians should not be so frivolous.
I must admit I'm the opposite, although maybe there are times
I should be more serious. I suppose I use laughter to rise above
difficult situations.
I think God must have a sense of humour as we are made in His image.
He created us in such a way that we can experience a full range of
emotions. The bible mentions the joy of the Lord and delight.
For Jesus to come out with the following verses, makes me think that he
must have had a sense of humour of sorts, even if it is just irony.
Luke 6:41 NKJV
[41] And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not
perceive the plank in your own eye?
I am not aware though of any verses which refer to Jesus laughing, (although
that's not to say he didn't). Just wondered what you thought on this. Do you
know of any? Or do you think Jesus was serious all the time?
There are several versus in the bible which refer to God laughing in a scornful way,
though this is usually connected to the enemy, wicked etc.
Psalm 37:12-14 NKJV
[12] The wicked plots against the just, And gnashes at him with his teeth.
[13] The Lord laughs at him, For He sees that his day is coming. [14] The
wicked have drawn the sword And have bent their bow, To cast down the
poor and needy, To slay those who are of upright conduct.
Maybe the English language just doesn't do justice to the word laughter.
