Bakers refuse gay couple for wedding cake - is this a Christian response?

Maybe it would be wise if you own a bakery to eliminate wedding cakes from your services. Hopefully you will make enough on graduation, birthday, etc. cakes.

This way you don't have the problem of what to do....

That religious freedom is what gives a business to say "as a ////// we can't do that". The couple was given references, they weren't denied service at any other time, it was JUST the wedding aspect.

precisely that's what happened in northern Ireland. the business baked the cake but refused to put certain wording on it. they were heavily fined too.

A judge has ruled that a Christian-run bakery discriminated against a gay customer by refusing to make a cake with a
pro-gay marriage slogan.


Ashers Baking Company, based in County Antrim, was taken to court by a gay rights activist, assisted by Northern Ireland's Equality Commission.


wanted them to make a cake that included a slogan that said "support gay marriage" along with a picture of Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street, and the logo of the Queerspace organisation.


The cake was being commissioned for a civic event in Bangor, County Down, to mark International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.


Staff at the bakery passed the order to its head office, which considered it to be "at odds with our beliefs".


Another bakery agreed to accept the order.


The judge said she accepted that Ashers has "genuine and deeply held" religious views, but said the business was
not above the law.


Damages of £500 were agreed in advance by legal teams on both sides of the dispute.



Christian owners of a guesthouse who were ordered to pay damages for turning away a gay couple have lost their UK Supreme Court fight.

In 2011 a judge at Bristol County Court concluded that the Bulls had acted unlawfully and ordered them to pay a total of £3,600 damages.


In one of the first major tests of the Equality Act, the couple sued and were awarded £3,600 in damages

Yes but this is not God's world system of things, The Almighty God does not rule this world, obviously. I don't like it but I am not above the law of the land and I am sure God said to show respect for authority? hard times to deal with? isn't there a scripture that mentions this?

The Christian couple was fined for refusing but will the Muslim baker? I doubt the Christian would sue the Muslim nor the homosexual try their shenanigans on the Muslims. The war is against the Christians...don't be blind.

If there was no religious freedom then people would not be able to worship their God. No contradiction, YOU are looking for one and YOU have found one.

A man walks into your store and states he wants you to bake him a cake because he wants to celebrate a rape he is going to commit in a couple of days.

Granted the rape is illegal but it goes along with your beliefs. As a Christian we don't condone Rape or Cheating on someone's spouse. So if someone claims they are willing to bake the cake for the Homosexual then they can't possibly refuse the cake to the rapist or the adulterer.

I for one would have refused to celebrate their wedding by baking the cake. I would have taken the time to witness to them and tell them about Christ. Everything after that is in Gods hands.

Make the cake substandard compared to your competition and they won't come back.
