Is it already on this thread?--------------the fact that the offensive symbol wasn't part of South Carolina's flag------until black plaintiffs won Brown vs Board of Education 1954ish (a Kansas case I believe), and then the heroic white racist legislators of South Carolina put it on their flag. Unbeleeeevable
So do you really care about blacks? Is this flag the real problem facing blacks...NO!

Doesn't matter how they see it, you can't change history. It will always be the flag of traitors for that is why it was even created and lifted up.
That's your opinion and they are like noses...everybody has one and it usally has a couple holes in it...the flag represents southern culture and resistance to oppressive liberal government...and the more you liberals try to take them the more the folks in the south are going to fly them...so get over it :)

Ain't an opinion, it's a fact the Confederacy betrayed America because America would not let them spread the institution of unjust african slavery to the West, the Confederacy started the most bloody war in American history, and they lost, that's all there is to it. So get over the fact that none of your are Confederates, the Confederates lost, they deserved to lose, and that's no opinion but is a solidly established fact. Also I am not a liberal, but ironically the Confederates were liberals, even Democrats.

So? They fought a war and lost...since then the flag has come to represent the struggle against government oppression and the southern culture... so get over it and let folks live in the land of the free and the home of the brave :)

And again I doubt you folks are really concerned about the blacks and the issues they really face?

What was the government trying to oppress or stop the southerners from doing? What is southern culture?

The same mentality would ban the Cross as a horrid symbol of persecution, torture, and suffering via the Crusades and Inquisition. That was then but this is now. The flag has taken on a new meaning altogether...or should we now ban the cross?
If you want to wear crosses and confederate flags, I'm all for freedom of expression, speech.
So is USA's Constitution.
But the Constitution already bans government from expressing a cross. As that constitutes, however mildly, an 'establishment of religion.'
In regard to the confederate flag, to me that never's lost its original putrid root meaning: warring for the right to enslave a race. In addition the right to secede from the Union.
Perhaps being a 'northerner' as well as despising racism, instinctively I hated the confederate flag. No one taught or urged me so. It came........natural. God is sovereign, but I wish Lincoln had lived, I wish the North (Congress+President) had enforced the 14th Amendment on the South. Not as denying white southerners' rights. But as enforcing black citizens' rights. Likewise, governmentally, I wish the North had banned GOVERNMENT from using a symbol of treason and civil war.

So do you really care about blacks? Is this flag the real problem facing blacks...NO!
I hope I do. Just like I likewise hope I care about all peoples. Symbols are simply speech.
Whether it's a problem, or whether blacks love the confederate flag, I detest it; and find it (still) contrary to
civil rights and the USA. Last: I'm only concerned with Government (eg States) use of that flag

Well the government and liberals especially are always at work to oppress the people...its quite a common topic among many conservatives of late...and the southern culture is well understood concept and I suggest that you could find thousands of books or other sources to help you understand... I know what it means to me as a southerner ...but I think you can figure it out :)

I'm asking you since you were the one who made the reference. Since you chose not to answer you are correct I have my answer. If it was so well understood there wouldn't be such a debate about it and the flag would still be flying. :D

No, that flag still represents what it has always represented. What you're saying is like saying the swastika no longer represents paganism.

The traitor flag is more than just the issue of race in America, though it does touch on that in a negative way as well. For those not dark-skinned it is still a symbol of treachery and betrayl.

For those that are of African descent though, of course to them it is a symbol of that unjust slavery and of the racism that followed after the defeated of the confederacy as it was still used as an intimidation symbol against them for over a century. Even the particular flag from South Carolina that was brought down was put up for the reason to promote segregationism.

"What other country actually flies the flag of some traitors that they actually beat in a war?"

Well the southern culture thing is well understood as well as resistance to oppressive government ...what you don't see is that this flag represents those things to many in the south...so get over it and don't worry about what flag we decide to fly here in the south.

I live in TN myself. And will not fly it out of respect for those that find it bad history. Having said that, I am a proud Southerner that does not need the flag.

Hostile much? LOL No what you need to get over is the fact that the flag isn't flying anymore. You can still fly it from your home, car or hat for that matter. LOL Oh, I am from the south and I know southern culture all to well. LOL

I don't fly it either and would not unless the government told me I couldn't ...That's part of my point, is that all this liberal propaganda is making the flag more important than what it has been.
