I mainly find that I am wowed by technology, but I have to guard against cynicism because the same old traits of man do not really seem to improve any.

Even with being in IT and with there being "nothing new under the Sun," 3D printing has certainly "wowed' me. From constructing bridges in Amsterdam to bioprinting of human organs, it's just...

The diversity and practical applications are really something.

That's so true. 3D-printing is an amazing field. I think we are barely scratching the surface.

I guess I don't know much about 3D-printing when it comes to structural engineering.

I guess it applies the same principles..

However, I wonder, would it introduce stress concentration crackings along the layer of steels that the 3D-printer "prints"?

Wow, no more welding?

This is a great thread, and a great question in this post. I am more surprised now by many things than what my narrow view of what the world held when i was younger. Everything from nature, to people, to God showing me things about myself.

I can't believe with ALL the nature shows I've seen in my life, I STILL regularly see new creatures and fauna that i've never seen nor heard of!!

Hard to say how efficient it is by comparison, but I agree that we've only just scratched the surface. As impressed as I am by it, I'm also a little disquieted by the potential.

Interestings points. You mentioned you had a "narrow view of what the world held when you were younger", do you think as you grow older, you get to appreciate life better? From the micro to macro of things?

I just found out today that there are some animals that will shove their bones through their skin to deter enemies (!) Yikes.

Technology is also cool. There are many smokers at work, and most of them use E- cigarettes. They look like something from Star Trek I'm just waiting to see the first lightsabers and podracers

Just the "progression" of it all is a wonder to watch. Even in my lifetime, the advancements that most kids take for granted sometimes leave me almost speechless.

But (this may surprise you) I do feel that mankind would be better off, Spiritually, today if electricity had never been discovered.
