The last few days have been so miserable for me. I've been suffering with chronic toothache like never before!

I had a filling fall out a while back and I've been meaning to get it sorted.

Recently it started hurting, yesterday was bad but today its like 10 x worse!

I've never experienced a pain like that before.

Went to the emergency dentist last night and they gave me a prescription for some antibiotics, said its infected.

Said it will take a couple days before they kick in and the pain starts to subside.

I've taken nurofen express, anadin extra and some Tramadol now 20mg. Nothing is working. Just feeling drowsy now but can't sleep for the life of me.

I've got to try and hack this for the next couple days.

Why does God make it hurt so much!?

Prayers / Home pain relief remedies much appreciated!

Thanks for listening.

Sounds like an abscess, dear. Infection from bacteria getting into the place where the filling came out.

Why does God make it hurt so bad? To let us know something is really wrong and get it taken care of.

I hope in Jesus' name that you can see a dentist soon and have the filling replaced.

P.S. I just noticed this is the Young Adults forum. I'm not a young adult. I clicked on your post from the New Forum Posts page & it doesn't say what forum. This is me going now. Blessings to you, Rudimental.

I had a really bad toothache last week. It hurt so bad. I was in tears 24/7. This is what I did until I made it in to see the dentist - I don't know how helpful they will be but if you were like me you would have tried anything. In regards to over the counter medication, I found naproxen helped the most... You can't take too much of that though.

- Clove oil also called eugenol. Put it on a cotton ball and put it on the tooth. Not for long and not a lot. This stuff can be toxic in large amounts. It's really gross and you can feel a burning sensation when it touches the tissue in your mouth. It might make you gag as well. I've also heard of people just sticking a clove on the tooth that way.

- Put whiskey on a cotton ball and put it on the tooth.

- You know those cough sprays that you spray in the back of your throat to get rid of a sore throat? Spray it on your tooth and let it set...Don't swallow it lol.

- Mouth rise using room temperature salt water. It can help get the inflammation down.

- Even sucking on a cough drop helped me too. Only a little though.

- Put ice outside your cheek to help keep any inflammation down.

- Make sure you are brushing your teeth every time you eat food and using a mouth wash with alcohol to get any food particles away of course.

- I don't know if they have this where you live but there is a temp filling you can buy in a kit at the store. I have no idea if it helps but it might be worth a try.

None of these completely took the pain away but it did lessened it some.

Hope you feel better soon. :)

Edit:
I forgot to mention. Someone on here told me to try baby teething tablets. I never did but it sounds like a good idea.

Hi Sadkitty thanks for your alternative home pain relieving tips that are great! Sorry to hear about that, I hope you got it sorted out now. Yes, I am like you, I will try anything to get rid of the agony if only for just 5 minutes!

I got some Oragel max strength stuff. Its got 10% Benzocaine in it. A numbing agent, you rub it on the gum area like you would with clove oil but it doesn't taste as bad. I think its the modern alternative to it but not everyone knows about it. It costs about £5 but is handy for numbing your gums, cheek, tongue lol and has spearmint flavor too.

The warm saltwater definitely helps. Been doing that all day feel like I'm swimming in the sea! I don't have a bad infection or lumpy abscess yet but definitely starting to be so just keeping it clean as got some Metronidazole 40mg tabs today from my doc so they should start kicking in couple days and heal it up and relieve the pressure which causes the pain and will then get in for a root canal treatment or something. Fun times ahead for me then!! Lol

Today I've taken about 800mg of ibuprofen, 600mg aspirin, 800mg of paracetamol from since about 7 this morning. They wasn't really doing anything though. My queen found some Tramadol 100mg left over from my uncle was having cancer treatment for the pain relief a few years ago and let me tell you they seemed to have done the trick. Don't want to speak to soon but definitely feeling back to normal even if not a bit hyper lol They give you a little bit of hysteria but there's not really any pain right now so I can't complain. Cheers my old uncle eh!

Another thing I tried was bread. My mate said it I thought he was pulling my leg but looked it up and tried it wacked a bit of Hovis best over the crown and don't know if it was just psychological or not or perhaps its the yeast in it seemed to help a little tho.

I tell you though, I wouldn't wish a toothache on my worst enemy. The pain is so extreme unbelievable. But I guess like Violet says thats actually a good thing because if it never hurt then we wouldnt get them sorted and everyone would have much worse teeth.

Back in the old days people used to die from toothache did you know that? They would get blood poisoning from their abscesses. Death by toothache. Thank God we are alive in these days eh. :)

All my love.

RM.

If you had got it sorted when the filling first fell out, you wouldn't be experiencing this pain, so DON'T blame God for YOUR failing!

Sciatica, as the result of a heriated IVD is worse than toothache, hopefully you'll never have to eperience that!

People experience pain differently. I'm sorry you're in pain but I don't see how it's productive to say you're more in pain so he doesn't have the right to question God. Also life can get in the way of getting things sorted with our health. It happens. A tooth can get bad pretty quickly without us realizing it. :)

One moment you're fine and the next it's like you're dying. I know from experience! I was the biggest baby with my toothache. :D (Not saying you were Rudimental, those things hurt especially if it's infected.)

God bless. :)

Thanks Kitty, what you have to realize is, I have a phobia about dentists. I had a very very bad experience when I was a teenager with a dentist who operated on my tooth while drunk and stuffed it up and I ended up in hospital and had to have an operation for them to fix what he stuffed up. I basically only went in for a filling but he drilled too much into the tooth and then had to pull it out. It wouldnt stop bleeding so he then drove me to the hospital and dumped me there. I was too out of it and too young and naive to really protest about it at that time. Ever since then I have had a phobia of dentists and usually have to be put under if I'm having any work done.

Anyway, the Antibiotics have kicked in over this weekend and I'm pain free! I just have to get referred to a dentist by my doctor now to get the filling refilled. I probably wont get put under for it and will just man up and have it done. But if anything goes wrong, I will be holding you responsible now jb! ;)

That's awesome you're feeling better and totally understandable with or without your phobia. I was scared myself when I was in there and I don't have a phobia. I might now though. That noise when they pull out your tooth. Yikes! (Yeah, I had mine pulled) I was shaking when I was walking out. Lol

I ain't in pain, I was simply pointing out the fact that toothache is not the worst kind of pain one can experience but a Sciatica from a herniated disc if experienced is more painful! :p

Hopefully the next time Rudimental experiences pain (from whatever cause) he will not linger but get it attended to!

I was stuck in bed for over 6 months recently with a herniated disk and sciatica in my left leg.. I've had wicked toothaches too but that doesnt even compare to the pain of a herniated disk. :( Herniated disks are 100 times more agonizingly painful.

Rudimental, glad you're feeling a bit better. And I'm with jb on hoping you NEVER get a herniated disk..

Alright my misinterpretation of your post, my bad. Forgives me. I hope Rudimental doesn't get a herniated disk either!

Rudimental take care of your teeth and back young man!

...stay tuned in for another real life adventure story folks. Today, an infected tooth, tomorrow, a stumped toe, and by the end of the week, we will have a large mosquito bite to worry over! No matter the pain, it usually ends up in this forum! Last week, a prayer was posted to the world asking GOD's favor in choosing a puppy for a pet. THere was even a post from someone claiming to be a CHRISTIAN, with a CHRISTIAN boyfriend, who attends the same church, but enjoys having sex so much because they 'love' each other since GOD put them together and they wanted to know what they could do to insure GOD's favor. Are we really supposed to be 'nice' and pretend that this is NORMAL for CHRIST followers? My bible says "Open rebuke is better than love concealed."

Hmm..is an open rebuke truly open with such sarcasm?

By the way, I don't think it's fair to lump an abscessed tooth in with a mosquito bite or a stumped toe. The infection in an abscessed tooth can travel to your brain and it has other complications as well. It's not something to mess around with.

~ Moral of the story ~

Take care of dem pearly whites, ya' hear? :D

well, you must enjoy all the "soap operas" as you call them, on here, because you ALWAYS leave an obnoxious, snarky reply. If you have nothing constructive to say to these people, then why reply at all? I think you do it to try and show us that you're holier than thou.. news flash, you aren't.. :/

MY bible says "love thy neighbor". If love is concealed, then OBVIOUSLY it's not real love. MY bible also says that not one thing happens that God doesn't notice. I'm sure he notices your bad attitude on this site.. :/ You might want to pray about that..

While I sympathize with the pain you are going through this will be one of those hard lessons you will learn in life.... You stated the filling fell out a while ago.....well after this experience I don't think you will ever ignore a filling that may fall out in the future as now you know it results in severe pain...... I don't think God caused this pain I think you might have played a big part in it......just learn this lesson as I think you will have a hard time forgetting it.

Dear Father

Please help our brother with the pain that he is going through and help him to be able to get this tooth repaired very soon. In Jesus Name Amen

Terribly sorry you had that bad experience with the dentist....I too at 6 years old had a bad experience dentist numbed area to remove baby teeth and then waited too long and pulled them as the numbing agent had worn off.... I was screaming but because I was a kid they thought just a normal kid reaction, but NO I was in pain feeling every bit of the pulling...

Not all dentists are bad there are good ones out there maybe go for a Good recommendation for a dentist in your area and stick with him.... Again sorry you are in pain....

I do agree with most of your comments..although most of them are directed just for my pleasure. lol My response to "if you don't have something constructive to say to these people, why reply at all?" is: "if these people have nothing better to say than complain about their personal affairs, why post at all!" The old fashioned way was to 'take it to the LORD in prayer". I guess today's technology of having the internet takes the place of it. Instead of our Heavenly father taking care of our issues, the best thing is to announce it to the world, full of total strangers and hope they give answers that we think we need to hear.

Have you offered to pray for or with them? I think that would be more constructive than railing against them because they have shared their pain.

We are called to bear each other's burdens. We can't do that if nobody shares any burdens. This and many other posts are opportunities for us to do as we are called, including you.

I would suggest to eat plain veggie meals for the next few days, and drink lots of water, and brush your teeth after you eat. Also take any prescribed medication or aspirin and use google to look more options up, other than that I don't know what else I can recommend.

Well in that case then you need to grow up and stop acting like a childish troll and start being a mature gentleman for once in your life pwrnJC.

So what are you saying then that I have nothing better to do than complain about my personal affairs? :p

I thought this was a Christian family forum where someone could post something about their actual personal affairs after all isn't family the most personal thing there is?

I wasn't asking for an grand convention be organized on an International scale. A brother is not allowed to ask for a little pain relief and Godspeed in getting a bad tooth sorted with his Christian family now?

I see what you are saying about the whole technology/internet thing today but you shouldnt assume that people all people are like that or that someone is for posting on the forum here about their ailments what have you.

There really are better ways of going around things than taking an immature, condescending and sarcasting tone and trashing people for it. Who are you to trash talk me in the 2nd person? I never gave my permission for you to do that. Not cool man. God bless you with some coolness brother.

Well all I said was why does God make it hurt so much? :) Why are you contributing other peoples affairs to me making a post having a little moan about my toothache? And all those things bar the last one are pretty serious things. A mosquito bite can turn nasty fast especially a large one! A stumped toe can put you off work for weeks if not attended to properly and can effect the way you walk/run for the rest of your life and any normal and loving Christian family in my books, (in my bible) would show some sympathy (at the least) and have compassion and we can all make a quick prayer about it and it get sorted much faster.

Any Christian forum in my opinion would welcome peoples posts on their ailments or medical issues no matter how small, after all, I thought, that was why this whole forum section was set up in the first place to chat about anything with Christians?

I get what you are saying but YES you are supposed to be "NICE" that is the whole point my friend and no you are not to PRETEND. Who has told you that you ever needed to pretend about anything? That is something YOU are doing not something Christ has told us to do. Christ has said to love one another its the most important of all things. Not to judge and to show love as He has loved us, what love has a greater friend than he who would lay down his own life for him? I tell you the truth; whoever is greatest is least and whoever is least is greatest.

I feel where you are coming from my friend but I also feel like you have a ways to learn just how deep Gods love is for His people. If you saw those gay people, the way that God sees them, they way that He sees you, your voiced opinion would be quite quite different. You wouldn't get mad about it, you wouldn't spew any hate or sarcasm about it, you wouldn't let it effect you because you know that everyone is at different walks in their life with God and because you know that all these things exist because of satan going back in the garden of Eden and that as it was in the beginning so shall it be in the end because he makes all things work together for the good of those that love God and that He will bring us to the finish line in His time not in YOUR time! You can take that to the bank!

The verse you refer to being Proverbs 27:5 The original KJV version is "Open rebuke is better than secret love."

The phrase you have used "Open rebuke is better than love concealed" is not in any version of the bible so I am not sure what bible version you are using? I think this is a good example of you getting a little too far ahead of yourself son.

But you have also taken this verse out of context too. It does not meant you should openly rebuke someone for their sin! I repeat; it does NOT mean this. Open rebuke is better than secret love. This is to be understood, not of rebuke publicly given; though you think public reproof is meant, which, arising from love, is better than that which is done in secret, though in love, as being more effectual; for rebuke among friends should be given privately, according to our Lord's direction, Matthew 18:15; Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

We tell a person in love, the same love of Christ when a person is doing wrong. Then we pray for them and leave it with God. All we have to do is plant the seed. Let God provide the sun and the rain.

I'm feeling much better thanks for asking. ;)
