Microsoft patches 'critical' Windows bug - BBC News

Microsoft has released an emergency patch for a "critical" bug present on almost every version of Windows.

Microsoft said the vulnerability was so severe that it needed to release a patch outside its usual monthly security update.
Security researchers from Google were among the experts who helped uncover the loophole.

I don't know anyone who likes Windows 8 and I dread to think what Windows 10 will be like. For me the alarm bells rang when
they announced that it will be provided free for Windows 7 users like myself. They must be desperate to ensnare us all. Apple
executives must be jumping with glee.

the good point is if you have windows 7, 8 on your pc. they will give you the down load to windows 10 free of charge.

it would be my recommendation , wait and read some of the reviews of others ,who down load it. and make your owe mind after that. pluss by waiting , if anything is wrong, will give micro soft time to tweak and fix bugs etc.

royalscot puts his two index finger to his head. one at left and one at the right side. and said hold that thought, beaming and searching for the telepathic signal from usa, to the answer to why no windows 9.

some strange air way there, some eejit cant count. or that the gist of the signal lol

Go Apple! With 3 Apple devices including my MacProbook, I am still going strong with no antiviral software and never a virus!

Take that, Microsoft!!

I think 8.1 is great, so you know one now :)
I'll wait a while before I install 10. I'm looking forward to it but not just yet, a lot of bugs in basic functionality still I've been reading around the community using Tech Preview.
If you want to stick with Windows, migrating to 10 is inevitable. According to MS roadmap, 10 will be the last Windows release and will be continually upgraded for life so basically Windows will be a service. Might as well reserve it now, install in a years time and get it for free. And for those who care, start menu is back no more Metro UI and its meant to be pretty good.

Another problem with jumping on the latest WINx is that you have to wait for some of the software to catch up with the newest version.

Yes, especially this time around. They've only given manufacturers about a months notice to start writing drivers for 10..why they'd do that I don't know.

not taking sides but the graph shows when you take an average of all the Maket Caps, on average, Microsoft is way, way higher than Apple.. on average from 1990 to 2014..

Market Cap per Annual = total sum of (market cap from 1990 to 2014) / (2014-1990)

The Market Cap per Annual for Microsoft is way higher than Apple.

crossnote Windows 9 is actually Windows 8.1 Microsoft brought this upgrade out when 8 users protested at the ridiculous
lack of any obvious start button among other things. The whole problem with these new upgades is that they are really created for people with Tablets, Smart Phones or Touch Screen Monitors/Laptops. If you are using a Desktop/Laptop
without a Touch Screen using a Mouse is awkward. The Apple OS system caters for Touch Screen users but the normal
desktop is the default. Also the layout is less confusing so its easy to swap over. I dont know why Microsoft didn't do something similar.

Miah I use both. I have a Windows PC and an Apple Laptop. I think the main reason that Microsoft sales are high is that
Windows can be used on any PC so you can buy a relatively cheap PC wheras Apple Computers are quite expensive. I bought a used Apple Laptop but it was still about twice the cost of a new cheap Windows model. The advantage of Apple is that their machines are of a better quality and the OS system is now free, although it has always been a fraction of the price you pay for Microsoft Windows.

Isn't it initially free and then you get charged later for additional needed downloads? Or did I misread it?

I'm not tech savvy. *sob*

I think the reason for the Apple catch up is the Apple phone .
