MiaH, many people have colorfully explained the 80s!! I wanted to say the same but they are right!! Many I recalled except for music.
I loved the 80s because they dressed more conservative, preppy, big 80s hair.. the Mall hair.. Nice makeups.. shoes... etc. Since I am male, I liked a woman with big hair, up to 1995ish.. Not ever since 1995. I don't like them.
I like those fashions.. really cool. Neon colors.. not too much but nice soft colors.. See this site..
80s Fashion - Clothes Worn in the 1980s, Fer Sure | Like Totally 80s
And the shoulder pads.. etc..
I did not like the feathered hair.. that was post-farrah fawcett hairdo.. Big difference than Farrah hairdo of late 1970's. OH! I love the bow on the hair! Really attractive to me. What they wear now?? Nothing! The hat was cool too. Those styles were called Romanticism.
I loved the styles back then.. not just fashioned but other things like emerald green or hunter green were in style back then with light wood color for interior. I still want that! Never had that..someday I will have those colors! I am living in rented house so cant do that.
Anyway, I liked some 80s cars like that car Tom Selleck drove on Magnum PI. The Ferrari. Also I liked sleek designs of its day like the Rivera, the Monte Carlo-Grand Prix shared platform (cars), larger window view (hate what those designers do today! TOO SMALL!)
I liked the jacket or shirt that you button up on side. Like a doubled-breasted jacket or suits. I had the suit and a jacket that worked like that. I sure miss Chess King since I had no money at the time and did not buy anything there!! They were truly 80s store. That was reason why they ceased operations because they were so focused on 80s and not moving on to 90s and beyond.
Dating was a bit easier for me.. its not the same as today whereas too many are paraoid and fear of having dates. Oh please!! I love the way it was back then. However, dating was hard for me as well because of many reasons. It was easy for them but not me.
Snowmobiles were awesome back then. First decade focused on IFS system. Look it up if you do not know what that is.. Today machines are too high for me and too big! I am 5' 3". Now they are like 120 to 135 inches long. Back then in 80s were from 104 to 115 inches long. Prefer 70s machines though with leaf suspension system and lower travel clearance that made it easier for me to get on. New machines of today are too high for me to get on. That is why I love the 70s and 80s.
I sure missed the 80s. I graduated in 1983 from HS. Um.. My prom date didnt have the right style.. She was very poor and it was hand me down of late 60s style so out of style compared to awesome dresses prom girls had. So, some things I was not happy about the 80s.. oh well. Long story.
But other things.. like the styles, I sure miss the 80s!
Rest in Peace 80s girls!!! Thanks for great acting in 80s, Whitney Houston, Emily Longstreth and Amanda Peterson! I had crush on them. Oh well.
GREAT SCOTT! If you are in CA, you can go to a real Cafe 80's restaurant with 80s style food! I found out last year.. online.. click this:

Many best 80s movies that describe the decade are a lot of John Huston movies-Sweet at 16, Breakfast Club, etc and Can't Buy Me Love, as well as Private Resort although Private Resort and Porky's are bad examples due to the content of the movies. Although that was the worldly thinking was like.
Science fiction movies were big back then and adventure as well as military related movies. Indy Jones, Star Wars, Star Trek, Rambo, Missing in Action, Commando, Cobra, etc. Teen movies were big too like I said. Those were big ones in 80s.
This decade movies are all rebooting and garbage that I do not watch anymore.
Teen life in 80s were Roller skating till around mid 1980s and were mall rats. I was one too! Both Skating and mall ratting.
America was truly supportive for its freedom and Against the Soviet Union (Soviet is still there!! Just renamed to fool us).
Many people in 80s were Born-Again Christians. That was when churches grew big and fast.
There you have the 80s.. Hope you enjoyed the 80s!! God bless!
