Natural recommendations to relieve tension headaches.

A small while back I was having episodes with these reoccurring headaches. They were quite painful and persistent, Ibuprofen hardly did anything. Bayer pain-killers would numb it for a while, then it would come back again when the meds wore off.

I had to keep taking the Bayer until my headaches had stopped on their own. I still get them on occasion, but it's rare.

Being that I like a lot of options available for ailments. Is there anything natural people can recommend to relive the headaches in the event they occur again?

Have you try to ask your doctor about it and your pain killer??
maybe the dose need to increase or maybe there is trigger from food or something else..
The only natural thing I know for headache is from willow plant.. but willow plant extracted and became aspirin (analgesik antipiretic same like ibuprofen and paracetamol)..

Maybe you can try to smell aromatherapy oil (be warn of the usage rate, some of them can be potent), or try body massage so you have a good blood circulation..

Thank you and God bless. My apologies if I was a bit late to respond. Hard to say what the cause is, sometimes it's emotional stress, physical stress, even too much caffeine aggravates it. Don't know exactly. Thank you for response!

Well, if caffeine can cause it, unless you're overdosing on the caffeine, that's not a tension headache. That's a migraine. Maybe your having more than one kind of headache.

Sounds like you haven't talked to your doctor about it yet. Do that, because honestly, on a rare occasion there's another answer. (Hubby gets headaches when his ears clog up. Who knows if there isn't something just as easy to resolve yours?)

At least find out what you're dealing with first. Different solutions for different headaches, and sometimes there is no solution.

Doctor solution is recommended, BUT there was a massage therapist I knew who taught me how to do this tension head ache massage on my head and I swear it made my migraine go away. So pay a visit maybe to a massage therapist who specializes in headaches?

Massage therapy is a great way to relieve headaches. You have pressure points in your feet, google it, reflexology and massages work great!!

Dr. first, if you feel like it's been going on too long. If you can't afford regular massages then try foam rolling. It's a great way to loosen up the entire body.

Sometimes a simple nutrient is the culprit of a headache. Most people are deficient in magnesium and a low level in the body can cause headaches. Vitamin B6 helps the body assimilate it.

Stay away from the computer screen, and the TV screen, and bright sunlight, and things that require lots of focus from your eyes, like reading books, magazines, or tinkerting with little DIY models, and make an appointment with your optician to see if you need glasses.

Also, try yoga. The gentle stretching and focus on breathing and relaxation will help with the symptoms, while all the other stuff will hopefully stop recurrences.

You'd be surprised at how often headaches are caused by dehydration...you drinking a lot of soda? Chug that water man.

The most common cause of headaches is dehydration. My experience with this type of headache is extensive; for me, it manifests as a pain behind my eyes, drawing the pain toward the middle of my forehead (may not make sense to anyone else, but can't think how else to describe it); there's also, often, nausea involved, which makes it difficult to take medication for it. I've learned to drink enough water to keep it from happening most of the time, but if I do get dehydrated and headachy, here's my solution: a nice cup of HERBAL tea. Peppermint, ginger or marshmallow (it's an herb, not the candy) teas are soothing to the stomach; hot water is also soothing as is a small amount of sugar. I sip that down and usually, by the time I'm done with that first cup of tea, my stomach has settled and I can get down to the business of chugging water. The marshmallow tea is my favorite, by the way; I add a couple drops of vanilla extract and use a lump/tsp of flavored sugar (I flavor my sugar with cinnamon, cloves and other spices) so it tastes and feels good; great for the stomach flu too. Anywhoo...

If you're dealing with migraines, avoiding triggers can help: MSG (monosodium glutamate) is a big trigger for me, and can be found in canned soups (pretty much all of Campbell's low sodium soups have it), sometimes as a flavoring in chips, cheap Chinese/Asian food, etc. Other triggers include smells--I have to be very careful with what kind of candle or air freshener that I use. I can't be around Scensty, but Party Light candles/melts are fine. Recently, my stress levels have been through the roof (thanks to work), so I've had to go to the doctor and get some imitrex, which does help. I've also discovered that keeping up on my vitamin C reduces my chances of getting migraines.

If you are able to take the time, try laying down with either a hot or cold washcloth over your eyes--both can feel wonderful and can help with relaxing the facial muscles, with the added benefit of blocking out more light. Lightly massaging the scalp with your fingertips can really help too. Hope you get some relief!

My Ex had those often, every time after weeks of arguing he finally went to the doctor and every time he had sinus infections. So honestly see a Dr., you never know the real cause otherwise. If the Dr. determines what is the cause, then chose western medicine or eastern medicine. Or start with western to help the cause and use eastern to not have further issues...such as acupuncture, herbs (if sinuses they make a great ENT herb), etc.

I recommend Lavender Essential Oil. There are lots of combinations with other oils, but they aren't cheap and their are safety precautions the store should tell you but they don't. You have to dilute it to 2% in some kind of carrier oil. A small bottle will cost around $7, but if you use it properly it can last for months.

Put 1 drop of Lavender Essential Oil on your chest, or smear it on your wrists, or breath it from a tissue. You have to allow it to work. Lavender is the only essential oil you can apply straight. There are simple do-it-yourself reflexology techniques specifically for headaches. You can find them on you tube. If you are having trouble finding them, I'll paste the you tube url in the thread.
