No I am not wrong because like Apostle James said you are drawn away from the Truth (light) by your own lusts when you sin, showing that you are not walking in light when you sin.
You can not sin while walking in the light !!!
His blood cleanses us only if you confess that sin and return to the light of walking in the Spirit, because when you sin you are in the flesh/darkness not in the light. You have to repent and return to the Lord to be forgiven of that sin, it would not be forgiven if you continued to give into that sin and live your life by it instead of living your life by the Lord.

I understand that he wrote that which is not what I was speaking on.
What I was speaking on was the writings from the early church leaders, and half of those he gave was not Catholics, only the final 6 could be taken as Catholics as the first 3 centuries were not Catholic.

No one is trying to make a doctrine out of one verse...but looking at a truth as evident truth and precept builds sound doctrine. This scriptures is evident in the point that was made by Ben.

Exactly which is one bad thing I see done in studying the bible by some now days, they try and pick out a verse here or there and make it stand alone. That is very dangerous !!!

How could you have sin (according to your logic) when your walking in the light....you still have not dealt with the evident error of your logic.
Not to mention the fact that ALL scriptures are inspired and profitable.....You can stand on the truth of ONE verse of scripture as absolute truth.....and be right in doing so.........!

Sin in the flesh is the correct term...but yes your right that sin is always present in these bodies....walking in the light is walking in the truth of that revelation as well as the other truths of the gospel....(which is the light) by the way

Well when a person is trying to take one verse out of a whole passage and trying to make it stand alone is the wrong approach.
You can not take 1 John 1:7 without verses 8-10 as well !!!
It all works together as well as the rest of what Apostle John says in his epistle, as he says those who are born of God (born again) can not sin. We can not sin when we walk by the fruits of the Spirit (light) because those are the opposite of sin, when you sin that means you were drawn back to darkness by your own lusts.
Which is why the article in the original post uses multiple verses and addresses them. Also, funny enough, sin confession is a doctrine made of one verse (1 John 1:9) and no other.

Apostle James tells us how we sin and he says it is when we are drawn away by our own lusts !!!
We are drawn away from the Light/Truth/Spirit by our lusts when we sin, you can not sin if you are walking in Light, but only when you are drawn away from that can you sin.

Actually no it is not built off one verse, and I gave a few previously that this came from and it was taught in the early church before Catholic dogma was around. So confessing ones sins is not just a Catholic thing to be done !!!

I wasn't sure at first. However, I'm pretty confident that you are dealing with advocates of "Hyper Grace" theology, which is the latest trend on Christian television.

So again you seem to avoid the clear error of your logic...how can one have sin to cleanse in the light if walking in the light means you don't sin? where does this sin come from and why would this passage be written this way if your logic is true? That's the problem Kenneth your logic does not match the truth of this scripture.
Your logic is flawed......ALL scripture is inspired and profitable....
1. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth<-----ONE verse of absolute truth that you can stand on as doctrine...God created the heavens and the earth......
2. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy<-----One verse of absolute truth that you can stand on as doctrine...Those who extend mercy will have mercy...
Like I said, your absolutism and logic are flawed.....
Read the article in the original post, that post on 1 John 1:7 was just an added point to ponder. Also, it isn't the only verse when you consider Jesus said of His followers that they shall never be in darkness but have the light of life (Him). It was a thought to ponder, but the real meat of this discussion goes to the article at hand and how it shows that the verses coincidentally seem to be addressing each and every belief of the Gnostics. If you did a side by side comparison of what Gnosticism believes and what John is preaching, its as if He is addressing their beliefs as to reveal to them the truth and reality of Jesus Christ.
PS: It uses history and scripture to make its point.

Walking by the Light is the same as saying walking by the Spirit !!!
If sin is still ever present in your bodies as in you continue to sin everyday then you are saying you walk in the flesh everyday.
Apostle Paul clearly says that we can not walk by the flesh and by the Spirit both, as that is the mind of one who is carnal and that way leads to eternal death.
