"Is it okay if I pray for you?"

It doesn't bother me that people ask that. It bothers me that the world is so intolerant of a seemingly good-nature offer that people feel they must ask permission to pray, lest they step on another person's toes.
Why would someone need to ask that... unless they are going to start a prayer right there, with you? Is that what happens?

It happens that way, yes, usually in public between strangers. They will strike up a conversation, one thing leads to another, etc. I came across it when I worked in retail.

Oh, that is really odd... but.. maybe it's a good thing? Just a little out of my personal comfort zone.

Totally fair! And so not what I take issue to (it felt unusual when I was asked in public years ago). :)

hmm...when a pastor takes control of your acquaintances in a church, and decides how you will be viewed by the people in the church. And when a small-groups leader decides your fate amongst friends in a group.

Yes, I left. I figured this is America, not Nazi Germany.

Depending on the usage, I find the phrase "Lord willing" to be kind of annoying.

Sometimes when a friend announces they have a big test coming up, I like to encourage them. To which they tend to reply, "Thank you! I'm pretty nervous about this. Lord willing I'll make an A on my test."

It just bothers me because it sounds like God is either going to make you fail or pass.

Brand new pet peeve, which only developed over the last week since coming to this site:

People who post something on the forums, trying to pass it off as their own work, when in fact they copied it from another source. This is plagiarism, people! If you want to cut and paste something, that is FINE, just give proper credit to the original author, and ask your own original questions about the article, or whatever it is.

This is an integrity issue, people! GAHHHH!

Thank you. GIFs always make me feel better lol.

I agree, jen! Years ago, I worked for a doctor who had a nonprofit organization as a side project. He wanted me to write out a devotional to send to his mailing list. He would give me the bible verse and idea, and I would have to write the actual devotional. But the thing is, he would sign his name at the bottom.

Now, I'm not saying I'm a fantastic writer, but I wasn't comfortable with it. I only wrote 2 of them before quitting. I couldn't do it anymore more.

Yeah, that's straight-up plagiarism... how weird that he would ask you to do that! Good for you for leaving that job, geeze... but you must have done a pretty good job for him to put his name on it!

Hi, CWS... personally, I've never seen you do that, but I haven't been here very long lol.

And I totally know what a Ziggy is! Whatever happened to him? Oh, found him!

Whopps didn't even think of that ..they both always are in all the cartoons. He only wasn't in this one because of the knitting. If the mods ban me I'm gonna be sad...
Maybe it's supposed to be Adam and Eve or something...? No clue lol! Never seen those before.

She had a contract with chicago tribune and they were in the daily paper but she did author a book with years of cartoons which was bought for me as a gift. They were so sweet and fun. I had dated a guy in my 20's and searched the paper for months (pre internets) trying to wait to see if she would have a golf themed one. I still remember being so excited when I found it that I had it framed as a gift. The end of that story does not go well but ...yeah. I still enjoy those simple cartoons.

I ALWAYS spell it "Christmas" and NEVER X-MAS. ;)

View attachment 133432
I spell out Christmas as well, but I looked it up last year to see if X-Mas really is taking "Christ" out of Christmas. Turns out, it isn't. It's the first letter of the Greek name for Christ. Christos is the New Testament Greek for Christ. The first letter of the Greek word Christos is transliterated into our alphabet as an X.

Okay, carry on. ;)
