Ahhhhh Lynn, always a pleasure.... Actually, I have no idea about this new book by Sarah Young but based on my experiences here on CC and how fast the word "heretic" gets thrown around, I would most certainly check it out myself before going by what people have heard on these threads.

I've read Oswald Chambers and would agree with Angela. The book My Utmost For His Highest in the new version and the old I've read and they are on my bookshelves somewhere. My xhusband very much enjoyed and understood him but I didn't get much from his way of writing,. Even in the new version. And I didn't always enjoy the way he presented his personal views on the Bible. But it was never based on false doctrine or anything like that. Just his way of relating with the Father. Not my cup of tea but for many Christians he is very much loved.

No, I'm not "always the one preaching to any newbie that this site has factions that always pick on me" shhheeeessshhhh.
hardly. I do however know you have a problem with my way of thinking and sharing on these forums. Every so often you rear your head with a whiplash post and I've come to see it's just your 'sun-shinny" way. So if I give my opinion and the reaping of it is you and your occasional criticisms, I can take it Lynn :D Your not all that scary anymore.
Wow! You really aren't into understanding anyone but those you instantly go for. I've never been scary. That you think I was kind of makes me proud. (I have never scared anyone in my life.) If I told anyone who knew me that, they better be sitting down because their knees would get weak from laughing too long. lol

I have always thought...why read a book about the bible when you can just read the bible...one is accompanied by the Holy Spirit of God...the other is not!
God has given the Church teachers, and some of those teachers do their best through writing.
We hear teachers verbally teach, don't we?

I havn't heard of this book or Author before, but there was and still is a book called God Calling by two listeners. The book you described sounds very similar to me.

You really ought to investigate Graham. He is soooo adored by the world..... yet Jesus said the world would hate christians & love their own. I believe Jesus.

I really have investigated Billy Graham and have come to the conclusion he is a wonderful man of God who has been used for many years to bring many souls to Christ. It just goes to show a man or woman can do so much right and be led of the Lord all their lives and YET still be condemned by his brothers in Christ. Just annoys me Stephen63. If we could alll just be a little bit like Billy Graham and effect people for Christ in our small radius of influence in our lives, the world would be a much better place. When you and others who condemn your brothers and sisters in Christ can do that,.... then come back and maybe there would be some merit to your opinions. But until then., you guys are just annoying.

Interesting opinion.

Dr. Graham had a very solid biblical education and clear understanding of the gospel. I believe that he always presented the gospel in his ministry. Dr. Graham was a man of personal integrity in his finances and his marriage and for this I commend him.

I am far less comfortable with his ministry methodologies. He would preach the gospel and folks would get saved but he would return them to the same apostate churches they came from. Without discipleship they had no opportunity to grow for Gods glory and many were overcome with the apostasy that had blinded them to the gospel to begin with.

Only God can judge Dr. Graham and I leave it to God to do so. Let us be thankful for even one soul that was saved through Dr. Grahams ministry. I would say that if Dr. Graham had taught biblical separation his ministry would have been purer but far smaller. Are there multitudes of souls out there who feel saved but really are not? An account will be given to God if this is the case.

Just a FYI...... Oswald Chambers never wrote MUFHH. His wife compiled some of his writings after his death.

I never knew that Willie-T., We were sort of raised on and given extra points  in our church for reading "My Utmost For His Highest" When we first got saved all the really spiritual older Christians we knew read that devotional. When we had Christmas gift exchange in church, I got the easier to read version of the book. Before that I was given the 'leather bound' old version by a family member. Back then it was sort of a Christian staple in devotionals.

Btw,,I've always been helped by reading different devotionals and commentaries when reading the Bible each day. For many years my friend and I used "Steams In The Desert" a compilation by Mrs. Charles E.Cowman. It's a wonderful series and also very encouraging to read how other Christians were uplifted in their faith by the Word of God when dealing with certain issues in their lives. Many churches give out the little devotional called "Our Daily Bread" a ministry that also put out little booklets about questions people have about the Bible. An excellent resource when we were first saved.

Commentaries are so helpful and although we don't agree with everything other Christians write., we can be so blessed and helped to understand the scriptures by them along with preaching and teaching. Where else can you get the major different interpretations of different scripture verses right in front of you and be able to study them out for yourself with each verse given by the people who are finding reasons to believe that way? Giving you opportunity to make up your own mind. It makes for a stronger faith and allows for us to not be shocked when we meet other Christians who believe differently than we do.

We see where they are coming from and can actually have a intelligent discussion together without fighting or feeling threatened for disagreeing with our interpretation. :D

Also, keeping a daily journal is a great habit imo. Have done it on and off for years. It helps sometimes to see what you have read and how you thought about it written down. A friend who is a writer always has a journal and faithfully writes in hers just to get thoughts down and out of her mind and on paper so she doesn't forget for future writing.

One of the most recent Devotionals I have is The Duck Dynasty Devotional. I love it.... although I don't really do the ritual of daily Devotional reading.

My wife is a Language Arts Major (you think I read.... ?), and she is the one who told me about how that book was written.

If only Billy Graham was 100% pure and perfect we "might" all agree with everything he ever did and said in his life...... if only.... But we have Jesus to be that for us so I'm not worried Billy isn't perfect. P.S...if only we were perfect.....if only... But we have Jesus to be that for us so I'm not worried...

Duck Dynasty Devotional (chuckle) now see., my judgmental spirit is rearing it's ugly head Willie-T. forgive me. Somehow I just can't imagine going out and buying a devotional written by those bearded redneck guys. LOL. But I can see the appeal for the guys. It doesn't seem to go along with my flowered tea cup and saucer while doing my devotionals in the morning.
:D But not saying there isn't a brown stoneware coffee mug in the kitchen cabinet too.

If you do not know with certainty that you are saved you probably are not. Gods Spirit witnesses with our spirit that we are His.

If you go for the come as you are and leave as you was gospel you are at the gate that leads to eternal destruction. The narrow gate is the gate that leads to eternal life few there be that find it. Few not many yet many will in that be told to depart from the presence of Christ because He never knew them.

There is a way that seems right unto men but the end thereof is death.

I do not feel saved but I know I am saved. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. Be ready to give a reason for the hope that lieth within you.

Does it demonstrate a lack of faith to dilute the gospel for fear that men may not find it palatable?

I submit that it is not enough to know of Jesus but you must know and be known of Jesus. A personal knowledge of Christ through the new birth afforded by His shed blood on Calvary.

Pitiful attempt. You would have looked a lot better to just acknowledge that your shot at Graham was unnecessary, and that God knows what He is doing.... rather than trying to defend that left-handed "compliment."

Graham wasn't a teacher per se, he was an evangelist. ..

Ephesians 4:11-12 (KJV)
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

He didn't wear all the hats and neither was he expected to.
He did run soft on the gospel during his visit to the Soviet Union though.

Have you ever heard Phil or his sons preach? They are CoC, but their minds and hearts have expanded far beyond that dead doctrine.

You might enjoy the YouTube video of Phil's sermon at Saddleback.

First you have to "hear" the gospel (good news) So Billy gave the good news of Jesus Christ came to save sinners who can't save themselves. That forgiveness is in Christ and you can come as you are and find forgiveness!!! Excellent Bible preaching!! Amen!! Go Billy!!!! why do you expect a new born babe in Christ who just accepted Jesus at a Billy Graham crusade to have a full beard???????

Evangelists are different than pastors. Each has a gift and each has a job to do. Why expect Billy Graham to wear so many hats?? Give the guy a break.
