My dad and I used rifles to hunt birds when I was young. In Canada, there is no "right" to have a gun. In fact, we had a huge gun registry for years, to try and track illegal guns.

Personally, I would never own a gun, nor fire one. My dad gave up hunting back in the early 60's. I also gave it up! In Canada, there really is no need to own a gun, unless you are police or military. It is not dangerous to leave your home open, and there are no drive by shootings, from what I have seen in the news in recent years. So we leave defense to the people who are trained to do it, and live in a peaceful country.

I'm glad I don't have to worry about guns, as they are a non-issue in Canada. I don't know if God ever intended people to have machine guns to gun down civilians either. A sword can only kill one person at a time. I think we got beyond the scope of Biblical ethics for guns when guns started being able to shoot more than one shot at a time.

Go ahead, jump on me now. I'm Canadian and proud!

Angela, If Canada is as safe as you say it is, why do the police and RCMP have guns? As a matter of fact, if it's that safe, why is there a need for Law Enforcement at all?

Guns dont kill people...people kill people with guns, knives, bats, cars, drugs etc. There is no problem with owning guns and I myself have quite a few and being a Marine I know how to use them, but have never had to smoke anyone.....just another tool if used correctly.....!

For sure, feel the same way. Hope to never ever be in that sort of situation.

Jesus Christ instructed his disciples to go out and purchase swords. Many people say that he did not mean this literally but I see no indication that he meant it figuratively.

I like this side of you Dude653.

I relinquished my firearms when I got married and had children but sometimes I regret this decision and at times believe the world would be a lot worse without guns. But then again if society was a little more Godly we would not need them.

i think a lot of Americans have an entirely unhealthy obsession with guns.

all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword.

- Jesus

He did send His disciples out saying to buy a sword too (Luke 22:35-38) - but how many people are fond of quoting Him when He said that, and also when He said this? not just one or the other? at that time, the disciples produced two swords that they had already. He said "that's enough!"
that's 2 swords among 72 people (
Luke 10:1 -- He's not just talking to the 12 here, folks.)

here in America, we sure have a lot of people who want to be the 2 out of 72 who carry the sword. or more like it, the one who carries 72 swords. they become idols.

Christ's model: less than 3% armed.
2 with swords.
70 without.
stick that in your numerology & compute it, conspiracy section.

No it's healthy. More, MORE, MORE!

Lolol...

Here's a favorite posthuman. One of my neighbors had 1,200 guns and 2 tons of ammo in his house. He claimed to be a secret CIA operative working for vice president Joe Biden on special assignment: More Than 1,200 Guns, 2 Tons of Ammo Found at Upscale SoCal Home | NBC Southern California

The fatso died of a massive heart attack in his car eating a hamburger with cheese in his car on the street. Now I'm all for free access to firearms and the second amendment to the Constitution of the United States but this guy should have sold about nine-tenths of his guns and ammo and bought a Richard Simmons membership.

Being christians, I was curious to hear your thoughts on guns?? Luckily I was brought up around guns and going out to the woods with family and friends on the weekend and doing some pistol and skeet shooting. Because I've been raised like this I never looked at guns as bad because around me people don't use them against other people, they use them against paper or old milk jugs.

In my life I've shot around 100,000 rounds (mostly .22lr). Never against a person, thankfully. I see guns in a positive light but I've had friends that were absolutely opposed to guns. Most had never used them, so as often as I can I take them out and let them try a bunch ofmdiffrent types and calibers out in a relaxing safe environment. After shooting most have had a change of heart and realize that Bad people use firearms in a bad way, good people use guns in a safe and responsible way.

I'm curious to what your thought about firearms are?

Recently I've been reading the bible and praying about this... Obviously guns weren't invented in the time the bible was written but they still had swords and bows, which even back then kings and rulers feared common people owning.

I'd like to hear your thoughts and if you've got any on favorite bible verses. Please be respectful, I know this is a touchy subject for some people.

I'm not against guns for shooting milk cartons in the same way that I'm not against hammers for nails, wrenches for pipes, axes for wood, spades for dirt, shovels for mess, or bats for a baseball game. But only one of those items can kill someone at a couple of hundreds of yards.

The main point is that guns were invented to kill, to murder.

Jesus did say those who use the sword will die by the sword. Even Jesus was against using force to hurt other people.

Matthew 26:51-52 (NKJV)
[SUP]51 [/SUP] And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
[SUP]52 [/SUP] But Jesus said to him, "Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.

Yea, If I remember Sunday school right, Jesus said something along the lines of "when I sent you out without a knapsack, or a purse, or a cloak, were you ever left in need of anything?" The disciples respond "no, master, we weren't". And Jesus says "Well, then if you have a purse (they don't), take it, as well as your bag (they don't have bags). And if you don't have a sword (they don't), then sell your (non-existent) cloak and buy one!!"

It's sort of like, "guys, you never had, or needed, a cloak or a bag, or a sword. You were lacking nothing., because you had me. You're still lacking nothing"

They used that logic in Mexico and spawned an illegally armed criminal monster that operated amongst them murdering and victimizing them at will. Only with the rearming of the law abiding Mexican population has it begun to be brought under control once again.

We need guns exactly because criminals will use illegal weapons to murder other people.

We don't need guns. We have too many other ways to kill each other.. :/

Where is the line, when to use gun and when to sacrifice yourself like all apostles, first christians and many protestant reformers did?
I dont see many new testament verses on this topic. But it seems that even self-defence was something forbidden for first christians, only running away was what they did.

"Like a sheep without a word" was somethink like credo for them. And death was not something to fear.

That's odd because I see many of them and see them in their historical context. Self-defense was practiced by early Christians. Revenge; however, was not (especially against one's Christian "brothers" and "sisters"). Bravely standing against government tyranny without resorting to violent revolution was another hallmark of early Christians.

In their ignorance, people often confuse these realities as you have done.
