Anyone else hate this drug. It seriously is screwing with my brain. Don't get me wrong it's doing the job for what I have it for but it gives me hot flashes, night sweats, increased blood pressure. Thank God I only have a few more days of winding down. I know some people who are on this regularly, no idea how they can handle it.

Maybe not "hate," but I don't miss it. What are you on it for, if you don't mind me asking?

An elevated BP can be pretty common. I know you said you only have a few more days, but I'd monitor that to make sure it's not getting too high. Everyone is different; for some it has little to no effect. You were just blessed with a few side effects lol. At least it's getting the job done though.

I'm on 5mg a day. I have been on 20mg a day a few times. Once i was pumped full of IV every day, then every other day, while on 20mg of prednisone. I slept a total of 3 hours in over a week during that time.

Hi Ugly, (always wanted to say that to someone, without being mean) As I am sure you know, Prednisone is an anti-inflammatory. Lately alternative researchers are finding that Turmeric is also a good anti-inflammatory and is even more effective when used with berberine pepper as it makes the Turmeric more readily absorbed. Other herbs are Rosemary, Holy Basil, Green Tea, Ginger, Bayberry and Chinese Skullcap. There are others, but those are the ones in an anti-inflammatory supplement I am giving myself and my sister for arthritis. It seems to work very well. I pray that God doesn't let the prednisone do you any permanent damage. May God bless you.

Prednisone is my most important drug, without it I could, over time, go into Adrenal Crisis with the probability of death. Once, I went into Adrenal Crisis and I slep (spl?) for three days and couldn't be awoke without slapping my bare legs hard.

Note: The Adrenal Gland are over each kidney and is the source of strength and stamina.

yes, Pt,

once you are on a corticotrophic drug, (poison) the body HAS to have it,
been there done that....

many years ago, when I was partaking of ONLY prescription drugs to deal with my health problems,
my doctor WARNED me, that if I took this med for any length of time, then I would become dependent,
(not addictED but DEPENDENT)......AND, he was right.....

the DETOX was horrendous ........

My body doesn't produce hormones due to the stem connecting my Pituitary with my Hypothalamus is missing and my Pituitary is concaved, probably due to when I fell out of a tree when I was a child. So, I have to take Hormone Therapy including Adrenal hormone.

Thank you 'old' my doctor never talked to me like you did about the Sterol Prednisone.

I had a kidney replacement and rejection is an ongoing concern with these. The Prednisone is part of my treatment to help combat my body rejecting the kidney.

Uh..... no they aren't. They are for short-term bursts of energy in emergency situations. Over-stimulating them is quite dangerous.

I went to an urgent care once for hives and they gave me a prednisone pack. Threw those suckers away at home after reading about all the potential weight gain.
Is that vain?

Prednisone is a very good and often prescribed drug. BUT it really should be taken in a progressively decreasing dosage. It lowers the effectiveness and efficiency of your immune system, and can be harmful to several internal organs. It is only if you have to stay on it (rare, and to be avoided if possible) that you have to worry about blowing up like a balloon.

Didn't mean to push this issue. It just happens to be very fresh on my mind because I had a seminar on this very thing, last Monday.
No Big. :)
I have known this my own life, I don't know why I said that.

I feel bad when I am on or off my medicine.

Which is no small thing. I once lived in the mountains for a few years and had a friend there that lost his ride for several months. I had to drive him literally sixty miles round trip to and from a kidney dialysis center. He had no other way to get there and this was before Obamacare. Dude literally would have died if I hadn't done this for him until he could make other arrangements. Kidney replacement, kidney failure issues are quite serious medical problems and need to be treated as such.
