I understand. I feel like it is just based on the way my church is. I'm sure no one at my church feels like I'm being disrespectful but I sure do lol.

i encourage you to remember that even tho it is tradition to take a black leather bible to church, do you really think GOD will judge you for that, or is it the closed minded stares of the traditional people who cant renew their mind in that the Holy Word comes in other forms. remember that the scriptures were once on scrolls...not a bound black leather book

Since when was the steeple > the world? AND
She never said God would judge her.
She is obviously considerate of others ! Thats nice!
Maybe the lighting in her steeple is not conducive to the lights on a phone or tablet visa versa. AND she said she would probably get distracted so it wasnt her best option.

The lighting in my church is very very low lighting. We have a church building that's very old. No windows and because of the lighting its very obvious when you're on a phone/tablet. We don't have the money to update it yet. We are working on it. But since it doesn't bother people they aren't too worried about.

My wife and I both bring our Bibles to church. They post scripture on the big screen at my church during the sermon, but I also like to cross reference during the sermon.

To me, theres nothing that compares to having the Bible in our hands. The only way to learn where everything is in the Bible is to actually use it. I like to cross reference as well. Just my 2 cents

Joel Osteen quoting and posting scripture? Okay. I believe that. I do. What I don't understand is the reason. Why would he quote the bible and post some verses?
There's more than one way to get heaven, so who needs the bible!

it would be nice if my leatherbound book had a search bar tho --
because soo often i remember a verse or a part of a verse and can't figure out where it's found!

I've got that. Paid a pretty penny for it. Pure white paper. Leather. Though years old, the leather aroma still there. I can fold the cover all around to the back of the bible, meeting front and back covers, no harm, no damage to bible at all. My next bible will have 3 ribbons, calf leather, hopefully get one with a small harmless prick mark in the leather.
 
My wife and I bring our bibles out of habit as before apps and tablets were made. It just feels right.
One time we got permission from the assistant pastor to bring in these scrolls like the Jews had.
A bunch of us got together and made them up to look authentic and just before our pastor went to teach we walked up to the podium in a single file line passing the scrolls from one to a another raising it up as we past it over to him.
The whole church was laughing and pastor was beside himself it was great.
 
My bible is on my iPad, and yes I use it at church. I can turn pages like a regular book, but I can also get to book, chapter and verse much faster, and keep up with the sermon. I can also take notes much faster, and organize them better. I used to have a physical bible that was heavily filled with highlighters, side notes, drawings, and stickers. I took it with me not only to church but to places like the park. I ended up throwing it away because someone said that the niv was an evil version lol. I miss my baby lol. I knew where things were in there because of what the page looked like. But I like the digital version as well.
 
some churches have chairs now, not pews with holders, so they stack the bibles on tables and usher will hand them out. I do not bring my bible to worship service... I have a terrible habit of going astray from listening to the sermon to "check" something that came to mind because of the sermon. No bible in hand helps me to stay focused.
 
there is just something about a well-worn-leather bound-page tattered-lovingly marked-
tearstained, God breathed Love Letter......when we hold it close to our hearts,
we realize what a comfort it is and what a sword it can be.

LUKE 4:16.
we love the scripture where The Word reads the Word.....

I've noticed for awhile now that less and less people bring their own Bible to Church. I know there are some Church's have Bibles under the chairs so they are available. I was at my sisters Church this last weekend and really didn't see anyone with a bible. A few people had tablets with them so I'm guessing they used the Bible on that. There were no Bibles under the chairs. I usually bring my Bible every Sunday so I can take notes and also check what the pastor is saying.

So just curious if this is the norm these days or do most of you see something different.

Me Too .. It is required for us Christ Believers to bring our bible with us in the church and also as much possible everywehre we go even we travel . ^_^
