Well, despite this being an old thread and the user is no longer here... But for those who may have this problem and read this now...
Tips:
- Turn off all electronics at least an hour prior to going to bed (includes text messaging.) This causes less distraction and from keeping your mind awake and alert even though your body signals for sleep.
- No caffeine such as coffee, tea, or chocolates anywhere from 5 - 8 hours before bed. Again, keeps the mind awake.
- Try having lighter meal dinners since the extra food that gets consumed is originally used to burn energy and eventually stores in as body fat if not used. Water is recommended if you feel a slight bit thirsty or hungry anytime after.
- A long shower or bath can help relax the body and make one feel at ease at night, not to mention cleaner. Comfortable clothes/pajamas are recommended to use to help yourself relax if you have not.
- Meditate, pray, write or read before bed.
- All lights should be turned off while going to sleep. Any type of lighting can make a difference as to how well you sleep.
- Being woken up any time during the night can cause your sleep cycle to become messed up and even reset it as if you have not had a full night's rest, which is why one may feel grumpy and still tired at the time they have to wake up.
Insomnia can also depend greatly on how you can control and have less of it by certain diets and routines, which some of it has been listed above. If your sleep disturbances continue then it's recommended to visit a doctor to get proper treatment and medication if needed.
