I have tried this multiple times in the past and have failed. I need this place and your support to do this and hopefully it will help someone else. I'm slowly listing the top 10 reasons why I HAVEN'T quit. Then a reason that shows this is bogus and following that with a Word of strength and courage from scripture. Join me in this endeavor if you'd like, I'd love your input.
Here's the first one:

#1 I'm too stressed to quit.

Bogus! If I can't handle stress in day to day living, what on earth makes me think I can handle Cancer?

Scripture: These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. John 16:33 NKJV

Through Jesus and Jesus through me, I WILL quit this time and stay free! Prayers needed. 50-year-old Student

When you are done the list of 10 reasons not to quit, I would then suggest 10 reasons to quit, if you are still not motivated. You might want to include cancers all through the body, not just the lungs. Emphysema and having to live with an oxygen tank you carrry around. Second hand smoke affecting anyone in a room, or even outdoor space. With 10% of the population having asthma, second hand smoke is likely to affect someone nearby. (The reason airlines banned smoking on planes, orginally started because so many of the stewardesses were dying of lung cancer from second hand smoke!)

How about not stinking anymore? The extra money you will have when you quit. Pleasing God by keeping your body as a temple of the Holy Spirit, not a place to poison.

"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." 1 Cor. 6:19-20

Congratulations on your decision to quit. And hang onto those Bible verses! God will help you through this. Praying for you to be able to quit!

Congratulations!!! Each day your chest will get lighter and you will breathe easier. So my mom said. I'd say set a goal...such as the money u would use to buy the ciggerettes now goes in a jar. Keep adding to it and every time u want a smoke add a dollar. Once you quit pull that money out and celebrate with something you really want, but couldn't afford previously.

I just tried, and failed. I know where I went wrong. (I didn't know I was so addicted that I'd get sick from not smoking on the first day.) I want to try again. I know I have to cut back -- seriously cut back -- before quitting, and I hate that. So, question for you. What's your strategy? When's D Day?

Just a thought. When i was quittting smoking. I set an actually day say like 2 weeks from now. i called a hotline that the health department gave . ( Im sure you can look it up on line) they set me up with free patches. They also have a support group and they would send you text messages asking how you were. Whenever i felt a craving coming on. I would gently push on the patch and think of a purpose for me to not light up. Then take a deep breathe. ( unfortunetly im back to smoking) i do plan on quitting again soon. I did do good for about 3 weeks

I quit in 1975 and I am 67 now, but a fresh Cig or match still smells so good, but I don't need it.

To be honest, THIS is my strategy. To write a devotional totally committed to the WORD and rely on God to see me through this with the help of some very trusting, faithful friends. Nicotine gum...DDay is scheduled for the 23rd, I washed my curtains in the kitchen today. I may not wait that long. Want to join me?

My son just stopped smoking. His doctor said the patch was just an overdose and still putting nicotine in his body, so she put him on Welbutrin. I did not know an antidepressant could help somebody quit smoking but she told him if he felt better he would not crave the cigarettes. It started working almost immediately for him. He went three weeks without a cigarette and then a couple weeks later quit taking the Welbutrin.

It might not work for every smoker, but possibly worth a try.

Washing curtains is a true sign of commitment! I totally get that. lol

I have a very sensitive throat and gut, so can't do the gum. I can't do the patch either, (boy, I wish I could), because I'm allergic to the adhesive. My new plan is vicious. But I need a couple of days to recommit. (I'm not good with failure. I've cut back drastically though.) Hubby has cut his down to one every 1.5 hours. Next week I join him. Ten days later, I join him every other his-cig. (One cig every three hours.) Ten days after that, three a day. And ten days after that D Day!!!

Maybe I should start cleaning a wall every time I want a cigarette. lol

There's a possible side effect to that. Not deadly, it doesn't even make you sick, but we had a friend who got it, and boy that put a damper on me trying that one. Last summer, I was desperate enough to try that too, until the pharmacists told me what my co-pay was. $210! Sheesh! If I could afford that, I could afford to keep smoking. lol

God willing, I will be smoke free by the end of the year! (I'm thinking God is willing.)

So, I'm moving D Day up to the 14th, no later than the 15th. I don't want to wait...

Could not agree more sister. As I type this post I am on a home oxygen machine at 49 years old. I pull an oxygen tank around with me when I leave home, and take 2 tanks a day for work. Smoked for 32 years, quit March 30 this year, and was put on oxygen last week. Very humbling. But hey, I was told this would be the outcome if I did not quit. I blame nobody but the fella I see in the mirror. I am praying for you student, it can be done. God bless.

for many of us who have been able to 'kick the habit', the memories of what we were doing
to ourselves and just as bad, what we were subjecting others to, will never be something that
i will be proud of, but it is something that i can use to help-encourage-testify-enlighten others
about,,,

for myself, the 'self-medicating' was my way of coping from the horrors I had experienced in my life -
the 'oral-fixation' was a comfort to me and a way for me to crawl into a self-made prison, if you will...

when I matured enough to be able to stand the consequences of my addiction and the horrific effects
that it produced, a change started to take place in my heart and mind, for I was shown that in reality
I could not claim a-true-love for anyone while I was blowing smoke into their face or having them stand by
and watch me kill myself.....

how grateful I am to my Saviour who convicted me, more than once, which I had ignored for some time,
but He kept at me and I finally submitted to His will for He convinced me of His Love and that I truly was
made in His image - and that my body/temple was not my own...
I made the choice that I would not harm or destroy myself or anyone anymore, not one more day....

my lungs burned/smouldered for a long, long, time, but eventually my body began its healing process and
a new life now lay before me, and because of this, I have been shown and allowed to partake in things that
only could have happened because I chose to live and breathe for Him -
would I have been able to perform, achieve, and live the good life of service for Christ had I not
over-come my flesh???

like it is written:
GALATIANS 5:17.
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh:
and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

I smoked about 6 cigarettes since beginning this post. Tomorrow is D-Day, officially. I need strengthening to make this work. Thanks for any and all support and prayers.
