Re: Since Acts 2:38 teaches that the baptism commanded is "for the remission of sins,

This is precisely how Paul describes baptism in Romans 6 and Col 2.
no, I can not agree, at taking the word baptizo out of its original meaning (as an action taking place or immersing someone or something into something else)

Christ, his death and his burial are what paul is describing as the immersing into in romans 6 and 1 cor 12.

we are literally baptized INTO Christ. not in water

Re: Since Acts 2:38 teaches that the baptism commanded is "for the remission of sins,

Gentiles would not have had the same frame of reference toward water baptism as Jews.

Still it leaves you with no excuse for attempting to confuse conversion with baptism.

Is water baptism necessary for salvation? Is one completely saved and sealed unto eternal life without water baptism?

For the cause of Christ
Roger

considering he preaches water baptismal regeneration. I doubt he believes in the eternal seal either.

Re: Since Acts 2:38 teaches that the baptism commanded is "for the remission of sins,

I'll bet you are. Real busy finding an excuse to retreat or be exposed.

Baptism of the Holy Spirit John 20 Jesus breathed on them and said receive ye the Holy Spirit. Baptism of the Holy Spirit is when we believe and receive Christ as Savior. It is the quickening of our souls. We are changed from dead in trespass and sin to new life in Christ, life eternal.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit has been perverted by some to be like the filling of the Holy Spirit demonstrated in Acts 2:4 but one must first be baptized unto salvation before one can be filled with power to service. One baptism many fillings.

Well, that explains a lot. I am sure this will make little or no impression on you but at least you will never be able to say this has never been explained to you before. The promise of the Holy Spirit was spoken of in three different terms by the Old Testament prophets. He spoke of the pouring out of the Holy Spirit. This will define availability, Isaiah 32:15, 44:3 and Joel 2:28. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit would establish unification, Ezekiel 36:27 and 37:14, 26-27. The empowering of the Holy Spirit would determine his functionality within the body, Joel 2:28-29. Both John and Jesus reaffirm the promise of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 3:11, Mark 1:8, Luke 3:28 and John 1:32-33.

There would be a baptism of the Holy Spirit of whom Jesus would be the sole administrator. The true sons of Abraham would be the recipients. Jesus promised that as a result, this baptism of the Holy Spirit would be accompanied by an indwelling of the Holy Spirit, John 14:17-18. His disciples would be baptized with the Holy Spirit, Acts 1:4-5. In their case, they would also be empowered with the Holy Spirit, verse eight, to enable them to fulfill their appointed functions. There are some key phrases used in connection with the Holy Spirit that we need to understand. The phrase “came upon” is always associated with one being empowered by the Holy Spirit. We never see this expression used in connection with the baptism of the Holy Spirit or with the indwelling, only with the empowering. One purpose of the empowering was to establish the credibility of the apostles and others as messengers of God.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit was a single, one time, for all time, for all men event and would never be repeated. The "pouring out upon ALL flesh" was God's making available of the Holy Spirit to all humanity. At a single point in time God granting access to the Holy Spirit to all men of all time.

The Empowering of the Holy Spirit was a visible manifestation of the presence of the Holy Spirit. This was symbolized by tongues of fire and was demonstrated by men speaking in tongues. Notice how the pattern of this empowerment follows the outline of the Great Commission.

1. To the Jews, 1:8
2. To the seven deacons at Jerusalem, 6:5-8
3. To the Samaritans – Jewish descendants of mixed blood, 8:14-19
4. To the Gentiles, 10:44-48 and 19:1-6

The Indwelling was an act of God. It was a gift, Acts 2:38. There was no way to obtain this under one’s own power. It is a fusion of the eternal and the natural, 1Corinthians 3:16, 6:19, Ephesians 2:22 and 4:5. This completely collapses the distances between the two worlds. God and man, the natural and the eternal have become one. Christ is in God, man is in Christ, and the Holy Spirit is within man. Man has been absorbed into deity.

The world stands outside of this relationship, John 14:17. Divided allegiance is impossible. Man must choose one or the other. The Holy Spirit is a seal of ownership, 2Corinthians 1:22, Revelation 7:3-4 and 9:4. He is the one who confirms ownership. He is a seal of sonship, Romans 8:9-16 and Galatians 4:6. He confirms our restored relationship with deity. He is a seal of promise, Ephesians 1:14-15. He confirms our destiny. This is how the Holy Spirit functions to finalize the work of God. What began in the mind of the First position was then actuated by the power of the Second Position and completed by the power of the Third Position. This is deity functioning in perfect harmonic cooperation. I have got a lot of work to catch up on so I will probably not be ale to respond until later this afternoon, .

we have a perfect example of this in the OT symbol of the priesthood. Which symbolized us today as kings and priests unto our God.

As High Priest:

Arron (the high priest) was washed (baptized) By Moses in the river Jordan, after this, he was anointed with oil.

Jesus our high priest was washed (baptized) By John the baptist. immediately after, anointed as the holy spirit descended like a dove and came upon him.

Moses then sacrificed the innocent, as atonement for their sin.

Jesus then sacrificed himself as atonement for sin.

As priests (arrons sons - us)

Arrons son baptized by Moses in Jordon river

we are baptized by God in the Holy Spirit

Sacrifices were given for atonement for sin for arrons sons

Jesus himself our sacrifice, applied to us (baptized into his death and burial)

Moses anoint Arrons sons with the holy oil

We are annointed with the HS as the HS enters us, seals us and becames one with us.

the picture of the priesthood is a great symbol of the picture of Gods work in us, to make us priests unto him.

Re: Since Acts 2:38 teaches that the baptism commanded is "for the remission of sins,

to crossnote:
Are you suggesting that baptism in the name Christ is nothing more than getting wet?
Jesus commanded His disciples to make disciples of all nations by "getting wet." (Mt. 28: 18- 20)
Jesus said that he who has believed the gospel and "has gotten wet" shall be saved. (Mk. 16: 15-16)
Peter said repent and "get wet" for the forgiveness of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
God bless.

No, He said make dsiciples. and then get them wet after thay have been made disciples (baptize THEM)

Jesus said that he who has believed the gospel and "has gotten wet" shall be saved. (Mk. 16: 15-16)
No place in that passage does it say they got wet. it says they were baptized. By who? Most likely the HS, Since only he can wash is and save us (titus 3: 5)

Peter said repent and "get wet" for the forgiveness of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
God bless.
No. Peter told EVERY to repent for the gift of the HS, He only told those who recieved remission of sin to get wet.

Your english bible is not a good interpretation of that passage, Even the KJV is better, Repent ye (plural, And let every one of you (singular) not ye
(Plural) Get wet..

Re: Since Acts 2:38 teaches that the baptism commanded is "for the remission of sins,

to crossnote:
When we by faith obey Jesus Christ (by repentance and baptism), God sprinkles us with the blood of Christ. (1 Pet. 1: 2)
As our bodies are washed with pure water, our hearts are sprinkled clean from an evil conscience by the blood of Christ. (Heb. 10: 22; 9: 14)
Paul did not speak lightly about the one baptism, he made that statement so as not to contribute to the confusion and division that was taking place in the church at Corinth. Paul said the one baptism is one of the seven foundation stones of the unity of the Spirit. (Eph. 4: 3-6) God bless.

That baptism is not of water by men, It is By God,, The spiritual circumcision done without hands.

if you think your baptism in water will save you, and make you spiritually clean so the HS can reside in you, Your in trouble. Because God has to wash you, No man can wash you any more than any man in the OT could make a sacrifice that could really remove sin.

give it to God man, and stop giving credit to men.

Re: Since Acts 2:38 teaches that the baptism commanded is "for the remission of sins,

Conversion and baptism are separate events. You have not made a point that their baptism was necessary or in any way contributed to their salvation. Their conversion was a result of hearing the word of God and responding to the Holy Spirit bringing them to Christ to receive grace by faith.

Roger
No they are not and and Acts 2:38 and Acts 3:19 shows this................................

(2:38) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

(3:19) Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Baptism was stated as converted in verse 3:19 to show they are one and the same process !!!

Re: Since Acts 2:38 teaches that the baptism commanded is "for the remission of sins,

to crossnote:
Redemption, the forgiveness of sins, is in Christ as are all spiritual blessings. (Eph. 1: 3) We are baptized in water (Rom. 6: 3; Gal. 3: 26, 27) and Spirit (1 Cor. 12: 13) into Christ and His body.
When we die to to the old self, in baptism (Rom. 6: 3-6), we are freed from sin. (Rom. 6: 7)
When we obey that form of teaching---death, burial, resurrection--- in baptism (Rom. 6: 3- 6), we are freed from sin. (Rom. 6: 17, 18)
John the baptist preached a baptism of repentance for the for the forgiveness of sins. (Mk. 1: 4) This is not something new, purification by the washing with water was given to the Jews by God centuries ago. (Ex. 29: 4) It was a part of the consecration as priests.
Jesus was baptized in water to fulfill this consecration process. (Mt. 3: 15)
Paul washed away his sins in baptism (Acts 22: 16) calling on the name of the Lord. God bless

Your question is answered in the conversion of Cornelius, he was baptized with the Spirit (Acts 11: 16), and he was ordered by Peter to be baptized in water!! (Acts 10: 47, 48) The one baptism is baptism in water and the Spirit. (Eph. 4: 5) There is one spiritual birth of two elements, water and Spirit. (John 3: 5) Similarly there is one baptism and two elements, water and Spirit. We must be born of both water and the Spirit. God bless.

"He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith"

Cornelius' household had faith for which they received the spirit, which means that God had already purified their hearts by their faith, which means that they were saved prior to being baptized. Then Peter said "Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have."

The above demonstrates that salvation is by faith and faith alone, just as we have been proclaiming all along. Baptism illustrates a believer’s identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection and therefore all believers should be baptized. If baptism was a requirement for salvation, then the order of events at Cornelius' household would have been faith, baptism and then the receiving of the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, if baptism was a requirement for salvation, then the man who was crucified next to Jesus is lost.

Here is another truth to consider: Was father Abraham baptized before or after he was credited with righteousness? No! He was credited with righteousness by believing God's promise regarding him having a son, and that's it! No baptism, not law, no works, nothing, just faith. We are the spiritual children of Abraham having that same faith and that in Christ crucified, buried and resurrected.

Re: Since Acts 2:38 teaches that the baptism commanded is "for the remission of sins,

to MarcR:
J. R. Mantey repeated this argument in an exchange with Ralph Marcus years ago. Dr. Daniel B Wallace, commented in his GREEK GRAMMAR, Beyond the Basics, pg 370, "Marcus ably demonstrated that the linguistic evidence for a causal 'eis' fell short of proof." Wallace is of the Baptist persuasion as was Mantey
But you don't have to be a Greek scholar, Acts 6: 7 and 6: 17 tells us when we are freed from sin.
God bless.

To take away is even more dangerous, and that is what those who say what Jesus commanded in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are not for us.

Lord Jesus commanded baptism more then twice, and men can not administer the baptism of the Holy Spirit for that is given from God alone. The One baptism that man can administer is the immersion into Christ (His name by being dipped in water).

Remember He says that if you add you will face the plagues that come in the Great tribulation, but if you take away from His word He says He will take your name out of the book of Life. We must be careful not to do either !!!

News flash this is not water baptism. Water baptism is never for the remission of sins. Only Holy Spirit baptism remits sin and is given the moment one believes and receives Christ as Savior.

Thank you. for proving the baptism in water will never cleans anyone, this water baptism is not a requirment of salvation, because man not only can not baptise in the HS, they can not cleans your sin any more than the water you are baptised in make you completely clean.

He comes directly and only from God !!!

Yep, And only he can wash you and save you! so why are you relying on a man, and physical water, and not Goood himself?

And you get mad because we say you preach works.. Here you are preaching works.

Re: Since Acts 2:38 teaches that the baptism commanded is "for the remission of sins,

to phil 112:
Of course, no one is arguing that Jesus was a sinner!!
Jesus was baptized to "fulfill all righteousness," He was being consecrated to God as a priest to God. The consecration process required that the appointee be washed with water (Ex. 29: 4), then clothed with the priestly garments, then anointed with the oil of gladness which represented anointing with the Holy Spirit. Jesus was not baptized for forgiveness, he was baptized to fulfill the requirements of the consecration process. Jesus was not clothed with priestly garments which represented righteousness as He had His own righteousness, which was more than sufficient. Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit and power. (Acts 10: 38)
All Christians are priests to God and similarly consecrated as priests. Our bodies are washed with pure water (Heb 10: 22) as our hearts are sprinkled clean with the blood of Christ; we are clothed with Christ and His righteousness (Gal. 3: 26, 27); we are anointed with the Holy Spirit (1 John 2: 20, 27) Therefore it behooves each of us to be baptized in water, as Jesus was.
God bless
