Actually my go-to for music making is... is win... wind....... (I can believe I'm saying this) Windows! *pant pant pant* It just works, especially with the payware VSTi I use such as RealGuitar and Miles'tone Trumpet. No way to regedit in the license key for the trumpet anyway, with no registry.
But I hear good things about MuseScore for notation editing, and Pitivi is a video editor. No idea how good either of them are, but it's worth a look. LMMS I tinkered with for music making, but right now it's more like a tracker than a sequencer. Ardour is a better sequencer but it doesn't do VSTi.

MuseScore is cross-platform so you can save your files in Linux and open them in Winblows. I mean Windoze. Ugh, Windows. (Maybe I HAVE been hanging around Linux chats too long...)
