Calvinist or not, that is the calvinist position.
No actually it is the biblical position.....

Faith is a spiritual gift and grammatically speaking that not of yourselves is directed at the word FAITH and the fact it is a GIFT which leads to SALVATION....I suggest 2nd Corinthians 6 and being ENLARGED<---open to learning and instruction friend!

Do you actually study friend......belief and faith are synonymous

pistis: faith, faithfulness
Original Word: πίστις, εως, ἡ
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Transliteration: pistis
Phonetic Spelling: (pis'-tis)
Short Definition: faith, belief, trust
Definition: faith, belief, trust, confidence; fidelity, faithfulness.
I think you need to take a step back. I am headed out the door, we can discuss it at a later time, perhaps when you are in a more amicable mood.

Brother I am in a fine mood....it seems you are not willing to bend to the obvious truth......

I agree....someone hardened to the truth and fighting tooth and nail to defend the un-defendable
People are so determined to twist scripture to make it say what they want...they leave even basic reason and logic and go into all manner of error.

All I know is that the Greek is so emphatic and God gave the definition of words, verb tenses, structure etc. and how many people will reject the things I just listed so as to espouse falsehoods.....blows my mind for sure!

I was just reading this...

[h=1]Jude 24-25King James Version (KJV)[/h]24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

I read that and ponder how anyone lacks assurance in their security in Christ. Jesus Himself is able to keep you from falling and able to present you faultless.

Are you SERIOUS!? That is some GOOD NEWS! Did I just read that to abide in Christ is to eat His flesh and drink His blood? You mean to say that sinning has nothing to do with abiding in Christ? Its all about belief in Jesus Christ? This almost sounds too good to be true. But, it sounds wonderful!
Amen bro. To good to be true, which is why so many people will reject it. Or worse yet, Make a pagan religion out of it like the catholics did.

Jesus was responding to a group of people who asked Jesus what they could do to do the works of GOD, not what GOD could do for them.
Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.

Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?

Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” John 6:27-29

It is men who believe, not GOD, so it is man's work.
I think I just figured out the issue.

It is mans WORK we trust in, Not our own.

Mans faith is not a work, unless it is faith in our works. Which is where you and your friends fall away

You are making the same mistake the crowd He was correcting were making by focusing on the physical. Instead of looking to the giver and the gift, they looked to their own role. The point being that there are no works that God “requires”, but only to believe in the One He sent by faith.

[SUP]63 [/SUP]It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. [SUP]64 [/SUP]But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him.

Peter understood it (even though he would not clearly understand ut until after the ressurrection)

[SUP]68 [/SUP]But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. [SUP]69 [/SUP]Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”[SUP][i][/SUP]

Hey bro,,, I will have to agree with fre here.

Belief is can be as little as just mental assent. or as much as faith.

I can believe and not have faith.

How can we possible not have faith? It is a gift from God.
I might not show enough faith to please you. I can't believe on the word without faith.

I liked an example given to me awhile back.

A man was walking on a tightrope across niagra falls. He made it, He took a wheelbarrel across and made it. He asked the people who were watching, do you think I could take a person Across? So he filled his wheelbarrel with rocks until it had about the same weight of an average sized human. He walked across the tightrope with that with no problem whatsoever, (he actually made it look easy) The crowd roared with applause, And they all said, Yes, we believe you can carry a human across in the wheelchair., So he said, good. Who will volunteer.

No one raised their hand, Because although EVERYONE believed he could do it. No one had any FAITH he could do it.

They had belief (even demons believe yet tremble) and would even go preaching this belief, But when push came to shove, they lacked faith (their faith was dead)

Something is very wrong with this whole thread. I am bowing out and letting this one go. I believe I am being directed to not waste my time with this one.

Probably because threads like this always become soap boxes for stiff-necked people who have ears that can't hear.

All because they are more interested in having their ears tickled and their pride fed than they are in accepting the truth.
