I used to say all the time that if I lived on an island and olives were the only food to eat, I'd starve to death. Now I love olives. Love them, love them, love them! :p

More seriously, I was a serious bigot at one time in my life, not liking Black folk at all. God changed my heart and now most of my friends are Black. In fact, we don't see each other as merely friends, but as family. To God be the Glory!

Black people are easy to love, Muslims on the other hand I struggle to accept. I guess I find forgiveness much easier these days but I'm still working on my "short fuse".

When I was s a minor, my doctor told my mother that I was Enemic (spl?) and he said that I needed to eat lever, I hated liver and I would place the pieces on a board under the table. I also hated Green Beans (String Beans), now I love both, Green Beans is like candy to me, I so love it. :)

When I was in 3rd grade my teacher told my mother I would never read above a 5th grade level...among other issues she removed me from the school and enrolled me in a Lutheran school where I was offered a intensive reading program. Within one year I was reading a full grade above my level. My mom rocks!

In high school I was shy and had little self confidence. I joined the swimming team and by senior year I was more confident but didn't come out of my shell so to speak until college.

Had no confidence academically and didn't plan to go to college. My dad sat me down and asked if I would give him one year. He asked me to do it for him. I reluctantly did and was scared out of my mind!! If it weren't for my father my life would be drastically different right now. My dad rocks!!

I used to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and only see their potential while ignoring their prevailing actions. Unfortunately in the last 4 years I have learned the hard way why scripture tells us to guard our heart as it is the wellspring of life. I am still trying to find a balance between giving people the benefit of doubt and accepting the truths that hit us in the face. I still haven't found the balance but I am seeking.

High level of CWS evolution over the years...a work in progress through the grace of God, family, and friends.

Hmm...I've changed a lot actually.

Here is a list of some of the things I didn't like but now I do.

Peanut Butter
Vegetables
Red Meat
Tacos
Pizza (I would only eat the cheese at the top as a child)
Ketchup
Mayo
Dark Chocolate
Reading
School
Books
Music
Writing
Glasses
Simplicity
The Bible (I was too afraid and overwhelmed to give it a shot when I was younger)
Navy Blue
Math
Church

Things I used to like and now I don't.

Sour Candy (it tears up my mouth ouch!)
Caramel
Ramen Noodles
White Bread
Swimming Pools
Being outside (lol I have pale skin and the sun burns me)
The color Orange
The Simpsons
Grey's Anatomy
Hello Kitty (Pusheen's where it's at! haha)

Overall I'd like to say that I have matured and I have become a better person because of Jesus in me. I'm more interested in school and a simple life where I spend most of my extra time on books and studying or family. I hardly watch tv and I grew up watching a lot of it.

I've always been overly kind hearted, people took advantage of me a lot. I'm still kind hearted, but wiser to abusive people. Aside from that, the reflection in the mirror has changed quite a bit. Lol

That's some list. :)

You didn't like music? Wow. I'm not knocking that whatsoever, I'm just surprised. For me, music touches my soul and always enjoyed varieties of music. I'm glad you like music now. :)

Now about dark chocolate -- barf! Lol.

Amen to this. By the grace of God, life experience can bring wisdom and internal beauty. :)

Three areas where I've changed are:

Setting boundaries- I grew up with a controlling adoptive mother, she didn't allow me to set boundaries for myself. I was hurt a lot and allowed people to walk all over me. Eleven years ago when I went through a divorce, I went to Divorce Care and took a Boundary class at church, I knew I had to change. Setting boundary for myself was difficult at first , but now I have no problem and I'm much happier for it.

My relationship with Jesus- I used to struggle to hear God's voice, now more often than not I do hear Him. I feel the reason I hear Him clearly now is because I'm giving God more of my time. When I didn't spend that much time with God, I was further away from Him and it was difficult to hear Him, the closer I became to Him, the better I can hear Him :)

More playful- I met my husband when I was 17 and we got married when I was 19 and I had my 1st child at 20. I had to grow up quick and my focus was always on my family, and always so serious. People always commented how I was much more mature for my age. In the last 5 years I've become more relaxed, more adventurous, just enjoying life!

Hmmm.. how have I changed throughout the years? Now you're making me think, Utah. LOL. :) Not alot in ways of looks.. I look how I did in high school, except now I'm 30-something decades older..lol.. I used to hate life, living it, being here on this miserable earth. I've never gotten along well with my mom and oldest sister, and for years I hated them both. I'm not gonna get into the whole story, but suffice it to say they aren't the nicest people on earth. :( Within the last decade or so, though, I've come to see them in a different light. My oldest sister has alot of physical health problems and she's basically living a pretty solitary life, and she is incredibly cynical and jaded. To me, she is a PERFECT example of who I never want to be: cynical, jaded to the point of resenting other people, negative to the point of being an energy vampire. To a fairly positive person such as myself, my sister definitely drains me of my positive energy, which is why I call her an energy vampire. Not to her face, but that's what she is..lol..

My mom grew up in an unhappy environment and somewhat abusive parents. In later years, she dumped that abuse on us kids, she used to hit my two sisters all the time. I can't really know if this is true, because I hadn't been born yet, but my sisters swear it's true.. She never hit me ever in my life, but she does have a definite cruel streak in her. I grew up pretty much as an only child, because my sisters and brother are 9, 11, and 13 years older than me, so by the time I was old enough to realize I had siblings, lol, they were already of age and had moved out. My mother dumped all her unhappiness and disappointments of her own past on ME, which in turn made me very sensitive, depressed and lonely. That has carried with me all my life, but I have found positive ways to turn them into good things. :)

Now I know that they are how they are, because of their own unhappy life experiences. I can't change them, I can't undo the hurt they caused me, BUT I can, and have, forgiven them. :) And if you would like to know how I've changed in other ways, especially regarding my faith, then please check out the threads below in my signature.. :)

I honestly used to think church was overrated and that I didn't need to be a part of one, and so I quit for some time. :) But that has changed.

Wow! You endured trials and tribulations that are completely foreign to me -- adoption, controlling mother, marriage and divorce, and through it all you came out refined like silver and gold!

Now you have a close, loving relationship with God and you're playful. MARRY ME!!!! :p

Thank you for sharing this, LiJo. I learn a lot from you. God bless you. :)
