Snakes as pets?

They ate mealworms mostly, we tried giving them a mouse once but the mouse escaped. We found it 2 weeks later, put it back in with the snakes and it was so hungry it ate one of them!

Yeah, snakes are ambush predators. They don't do well when put head-to-head with a rodent, whose primary response to stress is to chew its way out of a situation. It takes a proper sadist to want to try live-feeding a rodent to a reptile.

Royal pythons, I'd say, are ideal starter snakes once you get the husbandry right. A lot of people seem to have trouble getting them feeding, but that's simply down to sub-standard housing, in my opinion. They're small snakes maxing out at around 5 or 6ft (I've never seen one hit 6).

Proper red-tails on the other hand can get pretty big. You'd need a huge enclosure to keep one properly. If you like the look of boas I'd suggest looking at a crawl-cay boa. They're basically the same as the red-tails but they're a dwarf species, reaching around 5ft.

I love ball pythons :) I used to have one years ago. I'm debating if I want another. As far as boas are concerned, I was going to with one of the dwarves like you mentioned. Hog Island Boas are my favorite of the dwarf boas but crawl cay, caulker cay, and the pearl island are close behind :)

I looked at hog islands myself and found their dwarf status to be somewhat exaggerated. I've seen many adult specimens exceeding 7ft. But yeah, crawl kays are brilliant. I'm a huge fan of boas of every size though. Brilliant temperaments and gorgeous colours.

I've never been a fan of pythons, but royals literally do nothing for me. I think they're just so overdone that I've become completely desensitised to them.

What still puzzles me is, how did the mouse get out when 2 snakes couldn't?

I've been doing some research on this topic and I do believe God made all creatures. With that said, do snakes represent evil or is this just the misrepresentation they were given due to Satan appearing as a snake in Genesis?

If you get a snake, Make sure you get a snake that will not get very big. Many people thought snake were a cool pet then the snakes got big and the let them loose. Freed snakes in Florida has become a big problem killing off native animals.
 
Snake is tasty.

You can broil it or fry it.

So if it gets too big to keep in the house... ya know... you could give it a special place in the kitchen.
 
I was in a pet store once and a employer ask if we want him feed a fish, so he went and got a mouse and dropped it in the fish tank, I turned away.

your motive Is what GOD is looking at so it could be a bad thing for some and not bad for others.

well, when I moved into house last year, a 4 foot black rat snake lived in the attic space for a few months before I finally got it out and sealed up the hole it used to go in and out. ( these guys are excellent climbers and it would go up the side of the house and into a small hole).
 
Noah and Connor Barthe, 4 and 6, died August 5, 2013, after an African rock python escaped its glass tank inside Jean-Claude Savoie's home. The boys were staying at Savoie's Campbellton, New Brunswick, apartment. The 14-foot-long, 100-pound python slithered through a ventilation pipe and fell into the living room, where it asphyxiated the boys as they slept.

I don't like snakes as pets.

The pet store employee didn't know the difference between a fish and a mouse? Weird.
