God has shown up in life at times and where an issue was an impossibility - He erased the impossible situation and changed it in an instant. One second I'm standing there in what is total ruin.... then God shows up and changes it.
The reason we don't have is we don't ask. God wants us to ask for all our needs in life.
The world you live in is simply not the world most of us mortals inhabit.

"Oh my life was a total ruin, and he showed up, and he put it right instantly."
This sounds like a drama queen in a tizzy talking about arranging a social event that was just overwhelming.

"We do not ask" - James is talking about a whole chain of desires
1. Desiring the wrong things
2. Wanting something enough to kill for
3. Wanting but never getting because you do not bring it to the Lord
4. Asking but with the wrong heart, and a desire for self indulgence

Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
James 4:9-10

This is not the picture you are painting, but that is the picture James is painting.

It is easy to say ask God and He will deliver but this is simply wrong.

God blesses us with everything we have. I do not ask for the things, I rejoice in what he provides, and it is enough, I am satisfied, content.

I had to ask God to deliver me from being a shopaholic when I was a young mother. I have a bunch of sisters and it seemed like we were always competing against each other, who could have the nicest things in our homes, ya know? It was ridiculous! And God did open my eyes to my vanity & greed and I was set free. So I started collecting stones & rocks & shells, and still do to this day. LOL

Actually Mary it's much older. It is new age teachings in a bible wrapper. It's just 'new' to the church. Similar teachings are found in known new age authors books.
The Word of Faith movement came from Pentecostalism which came from remnants of the Holiness movement which came from the revivals of John Wesley. It's roots aren't in the New Age movement which didn't even begin until the 1960s.

The Bible has said the same thing for all the years it's been with us and Christians have believed and witnessed it. God is not subject to the times in history. His Word is true for all time for all believers. Service to God is a natural reaction to the love of God in Christ. We love Him because He first loved us. So service is something we have a deep desire to do.

I don't intellectualize God anymore PoetMary. I don't look down the road in the history books and dwell on how other people think and thought about life and reacted to it. Their sociological attitudes vs other people's sociological attitudes and beliefs. While I'm not ignorant of history, I do not run my life according people in any age in time.

I do not dwell on how people died horrible miserable tortured deaths like when I would dwell on and re-read 'Foxes Book of Martyr's' learning all about how sinful men killed others and sucked all hope of God and goodness from their lives. Imagining the pain and agony of screaming human's suffering in the depths of despair., How justice was lost to them and doom was the last thing they could think about.

That not only happened through all the generations it's still happening now. My focus is and MUST be (just like YOURS must be) just like the hopeful faithfilled believers in the past who went through tribulations ... The Bible instructs us ALL on how our thoughts are to be and what they should be focusing on. The saints in times past also had Philippians 4 just like I do when the Bible was available to believers.,and the promises were just as good and the directions were just as clear;

Philippians 4:8 ....For the rest brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things (fix your MINDS on them)

The promises are the same as they have always been for us new covenant saints. We are told how to think and what to put weight on. Not on the things unsaved people are left alone to think on since they don't have Jesus. We have Him and the promises He died to secure for us. We have the HolySpirit indwelling us. We have been given all things that pertain to life and godliness.

So don't be angry if I'm joyful, don't judge me for not focusing on the ugly things of this world. I would encourage you to also read Philippians 4., read the whole chapter. Be encouraged and joyful that Jesus has not left us alone to go this life.

"The world you live in is simply not the world most of us mortals inhabit." Well then PeterJens, get with the program!! :D You can take hold of Philippians 4:8 just as good as I can. So can you PoetMary.

We each have a choice on how we want to live this Christian life. If you want to go to Africa PoetMary more power to you if that is where God is directing you. But for right now God is sending me to work each day to witness to people here in NY. I firmly believe we are to grow and minister where we are planted until God sends us somewhere else.

The word comes to mind Platitudes.

The problem with facing serious issues is answering them. It is actually irrelevant if you just side step them. It makes everything a empty balloon. When I listened to Joyce I got exactly the same reaction. It is like just talking about life and commenting, all you need is to be positive and realise your dream through everything, say you deserve it, and just relax.

Jesus has a simple answer to this approach. "I never knew you."

I used to think those who have the words have the life, but it is not true. Those who have life have the words.

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
Luke 6:45

Those who are taken up with the mundane, excusing everything, this is all you will hear.

Therefore do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
— Matthew 6:31–32
Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.
— 1 Peter 5:7, NLT
…what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
— Matthew 7:9–11
Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
— Mark 11:24
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
— Philippians 4:6–7
For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son.

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.
— 1 Timothy 6:17, NLT
Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.
— Jeremiah 17:7–8
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to Me. Get away with Me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with Me and work with Me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath…
— Deuteronomy 28:12–13
…So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.” Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few. “And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.” So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out. Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.”
— 2 Kings 4:2–7
Then he commanded, “Open that eastern window,” and he opened it. Then he said, “Shoot!” So he shot an arrow. Elisha proclaimed, “This is the Lord’s arrow, an arrow of victory over Aram, for you will completely conquer the Arameans at Aphek.” Then he said, “Now pick up the other arrows and strike them against the ground.” So the king picked them up and struck the ground three times. But the man of God was angry with him. “You should have struck the ground five or six times!” he exclaimed. “Then you would have beaten Aram until it was entirely destroyed. Now you will be victorious only three times.”
— 2 Kings 13:17–19, NLT
The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.

i do not care for anyone that uses our Lords word to enrich themselves. i think its very shameful. i know very little about this lady. i did a little research and learned a few things. i copied a paragraph that seems to be pretty close to the truth.

Joyce Meyer—Since 1999, Joyce Meyer’s ministry has spent at least $4 million on 5 homes for Meyer and her children. Meyer’s house is a 10,000 square foot home with an 8-car garage, a large fountain, a gazebo, a private putting green, a pool, and pool house with a new $10,000 bathroom. Her salary was reported at $900,000 back in 2003, and she also enjoys use of a private jet and luxury cars. Needless to say, Meyer has been questioned for years, and she is once again under investigation by the government for possibly violating nonprofit laws.

Cited from: 6 Outrageously Wealthy Preachers Under Federal Investigation 6 Outrageously Wealthy Preachers Under Federal InvestigationI see many defending this person stating things such as the love of money is the sin and not money itself. From what I see here I would say this lady loves money very very very much.

Some say she is good cause she reaches out to so many. I guarantee that all those she reaches out to have a church within walking distance and most are more than happy to come pic you up. I have worked in some of the poorest areas and they always have a fully functional church for everyone. If these people really wanted an example of how to love our Lord with all your heart they should visit one of these churches, but thats the last thing they would do as there is no money in it. IMO the only reason they reach out to so many is so they can rob that many more people.

Why does this lady need so much? Is this a proper example for a Christian leader?

I won't defend her message. I believe it is bad in many areas.

But the fact that OTHER believers key in on her wealth...........It shows where their heart is.

A 22,500 toilet I can see, But a 23,000 dollar toilet? that is just terrible!!

I do believe that this particular woman is doing it for the money. But why does the other side have to scream from the roof tops and declare their poverty?

Just stop and think about it.......Jesus had to have a lot of money. He had a person who handled the money AND was a crook. He had disciples that left their jobs and had wives and family, homes to keep, bills to pay. Jesus was wealthy. Just that money was his slave and he was not a slave to money.

Even in poverty, we can be slaves to money.

i cant speak for others but people like me key in on the financial wealth because i see the problems it leads to.

do you read history? read about the history of our Christian church. in the middle ages when the church was at its peak of corruption. was money to blame? maybe not all the blame but it was a key factor. why did so many in those days seek employment in the church, because it could easily lead to a lavish lifestyle. they saw the great wealth of the church leaders and wanted some of that for themselves. had the church leaders lived a better example people would have seeked our Lord out of love rather than to enrich their own self.

By your logic King Solomon must have been the most evil and greedy man on the face of the earth. It just may be that you are wrong and judgmental and God really does bless his servants.

Psalm 35:27King James Version (KJV)[SUP]27 [/SUP]Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.

I agree Brother. I am pointing out the flipside. Our envy, disdain, jealousy of these folks does nothing for our Growth in Christ.

And, myself included, most of us are infatuated with money. It can be the fact that we have a lot or the fact that we have little. Are we going to use the abundance or little we have or are we going to let it use us.

We get up in the morning and go to church. How many of us would JUMP up to go to church if the pastor said ," the first 40 in attendance get 50,000 dollars each?"

At my stage, I will be honest, I would be camping out on the front door. Do I do that to just learn the word of God......No. I have a long way to go.

please point me to the passage that tells where personal wealth, power and glory were the deciding factors that made Solomon chose to serve our Lord. this is what your not getting.
Solomons wealth came from being king not a preacher. never did Solomon use the Lords temple as a cash business money making machine. and dont forget Samuel the high priest, he slept on the floor in the temple.

You don't know anything about the woman. You don't know how she gets her money nor how she spends it. All you see is that she has money ,so she must be a thief. You best leave the judging up to God because he is the only one who can see someone's heart.

I think, almost everyone here posted in a way that shows thier ego at least a little. I don't want to get caught up in this, but maybe you guys should focus on what you agree on according to scripture, instead of unnecessarily and unintentionally escalating this into something negative. Be honest with yourselves.

Be open to the realization that people have their own opinion no matter what you say, so if you must speak your peace speak it according to scripture and leave it at that. Leave any personal conjecture behind.

if we had proper Christian leaders people wouldnt be envious and mislead. when Jesus was preaching do you really think people were thinking of how much His shirt cost, how much land He owned?
IMO we should never turn our backs on these people. we should have no fear in calling them out, raising awareness in what they are doing. ignoring them and remaining ignorant of what they are really up to is exactly what any evil doer would want as they can continue infecting everyone unchecked.
we should go to church to worship our Lord, not to be rewarded with money. a little old lady i know told me how she gave generous offerings to the church, she didnt give so the church could spread our Lords word, she gave because a preacher told her her money would be doubled by the Lord. thats not giving, thats the lottery and its a shameful thing to tell an old lady on a fixed income.

i know she is making millions from being a preacher. i know her salary is paid by the church. i know she was quoted many times saying wealth is a key element in knowing you are on the right path to the Lord. and i am pretty sure Jesus never thought on the importance of accumulating wealth.
