The idea of a teenage Jesus is not with the purpose of discounting everything else that he does. Would you agree that it is easier to listen to someone your own age than to someone whos older or younger than you? Most people I know would say yes to that. So as a teen wanting to understand the life of Jesus more shouldnt be a bad thing.
I certainly understand what you're saying in having someone who looks a bit like you, whether in age or appearance, in order to relate.
Interestingly, it can go in the opposite direction as well ("We Need An Elderly Jesus!")
Several years ago I saw a wax figure representation of Jesus and the Twelve Disciples. I don't know if there is any accurate historical recording as to the age of the disciples, but in this particular work, the artist depicted almost all of Jesus's disciples as being much older than He was--some looked as if they were easily twice His age or more, seeing as Jesus left this earth in his human form when He was only 33, and in the presentation I saw, many of the disciples looked to be in their 50's and even late 60's.
I really appreciated this depiction because we don't really think about it--Jesus was what would be seen culturally as a "30-year-old kid" (we even have a recording in the Bible of the Pharisees mocking Him, saying, "You are not yet even 50 years old, and you claim to have seen Abraham?" to which Jesus proclaimed, "I tell you the truth, before Abraham was born, I AM"--one of my favorite passages.)
It really made me think how HUMBLE these men must have been in their hearts to be willing and led by what society would see as "merely a kid." I can't think of too many people I've met in their 70's who actually take on a 30-year-old as a life teacher.
All people want a Jesus they can relate to, and you've probably heard of some artists depicting Jesus as races (black, Asian, etc.) other than what He was--Jewish.
I myself have often wondered why God didn't include examples in the Bible such as Jesus personally encountering someone struggling with the gay lifestyle, alcoholism, or drugs because they have become such commonplace problems today.
I know it's hard, but we have to trust that God limited the details of Jesus's life for a reason, and whatever things He did tell us about His time here on earth is sufficient for this lifetime.
