I'm not talking romantically, but how do you say I love you to people and what's the best way someone has said it to you? To be clear I am talking about the action of loving people in general may that be our family, our neighbors or our enemies.

John 13:35 New International Version (NIV)

35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

As we see so much hate in the world today I challenge each of you to spread love, I hope we can come up with an amazing list of how to do this everyday.

Some quick examples of this are:
Complimenting people
Giving a hug
Calling those who you know could use someone to talk to
Listening
Shovelling the neighbors snow (or mowing)

I could go on, but what are your ideas?

To me Love is an action not a statement. Ii is demonstrated in the respect and compassion I try to show towards others.
And the Love that I show is God's Love, not my own; since the best I could offer is but filthy rags.

I generally say Hi babe wink wink <3 mwaaaah lol ... the practical application is ... would you like a cup of tea snookums? ...

But all joking aside. Love is beyond theory and has several practical/spiritual and emotional applications. There has to be balance and demonstration to back words us, but we can neither negate of forget that we are also emotional wired. We need to feel loved, we need to be touched and to be encouraged/complimented. Its like saying as a father Ill pay for your schooling but I'll never tell you I love you ... this robs a person of an aspect of love, and creates within them rejection a want, or hardness.

Honestly kinda confused with the responses so far, maybe I asked the question wrong and just don't see it.

What actions do you take to show others the love of Christ?

I understand that love is both words and action, but in many circumstances telling people you love them is not ok in today's society. Also this isn't a new thing for me, I'm just looking for more ways to show the love.

Are you trying to ask people what their love language is?

How is telling someone you love them not okay in todays society? What are the circumstances?

The first and primary way you can really love them is to secretly pray for them. As you do, the Lord will show you the actions and the ways to show love to that person. You follow the leading of the Holy Spirit - not a set list of "things to do".

Remember, it is His love that you are putting into action. And only He knows the best way to do that.

Huh? Who says you can't tell people you love them?

As for actions. It is often the small things. One of my friends here in Scotland always offers to do the dishes :D

1 Corinthians 13 is agape love. It is defining the Lord's love for us. We don't possess that magnitude of love of ourselves. Only Christ in us can love like that. When we put our personal agendas aside, when we stop trying to be good or to do good works, and we plant our spiritual eyes steadfastly on Jesus Christ, we will totally see how He views others and then we will treat them exactly the way we want to be treated. It won't be a deliberate effort to love - it will be Christ's love alive in us.

That's agape love.

I'm talking about strangers and acquaintances as well as family and friends. I guess an example would be someone like a boss who is going through someone. Saying I love you would probably be taken wrong, and in the case of an atheist boss saying God loves you probably won't go over very well either. A plate of cookies or a coffee though may just make their day a little better.

That's exactly what I'm asking, what are the small things as everyone has different things that impact them.

Hmmm, spending time with them is one. I talk to my family everyday on FaceTime, to catch up, let them know I'm alive and they shouldn't worry (they worry out of love lel). I can see my friends' act of love for me in like say, the other day, my roommates made me dinner cause I was sick, I felt the love there :p. There are countless ways to say I love you.

MY actions...note an action can be something as simple as baking a pie and leaving it on their desk, a sticky note saying...hey I'm thinking and praying for you, dropping a meal to their house, Saying Smile GOD LOVES you, picking up a kid, taking them to lunch, giving a gift card as you know times are rough...etc.

It boils down to selfLESS actions that shows GOD love. You being selfless shows EVERYONE God's love.
