God's Word vs man's word ...I'd rather hear God's Word quoted any day over man's...rightly handled it's the best teacher.
Is it enough to just quote the literal letter or should we have an understanding of it also?
Again. Learning Jesus as Lord is a lifetime event as we learn to trust Him deeper and deeper.
You will not understand Jesus better if sin remains your master, neither will you learn to trust him deeper if that is the case

Sin masters many who go to church, for they don't understand where victory over sin lies
As a person's trust in Jesus grows, the tyranny of sin and satan (on a subjective level) abates.
That is broadly speaking true. By living under a righteousness of faith in Christ, not one of observing the law sin shall not be your master.
But as I said at the beginning, I like to read of opinions as to why that is true. Scripture explained you could say

Absolutely
, it is all of Christ not something dreamt up by scripture spinners.
But of course, that doesn't mean we don't seek to understand what Paul wrote on the subject does it.
He wrote what he did for a reason, it is good to hear ministers opinions of that.
I am sure when you go to church the minister does not just quote scripture, he also explains it
He does - but both sides of this discussion would claim the Holy Spirit is illuminating the word for them. We need to interpret the Scriptures correctly in order for Him to do so, right?

WHo do you think gave the written ordinances? It was Christ. So to be obedient to Christ is to obey ALL he said INCLUDING the written ordinances.
Hyper grace is a problem if it is actually walking in the world and justifying worldly self indulgence above walking in the Lord.
My experience here and in the church is people are deeply troubled and conflicted within their hearts, but use anything to cover it up. Wealth is often the first layer of reassurance people reach out to, or a super spiritual miracles zapping view, or I do not have to change because x is true.
Jesus promises us reality.
And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.
Matt 19:29
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Matt 5:8
For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.

These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

The Lord brings consistency and reality to our hearts, so we behave on the surface the same as we are inside.
Now if people who talk about anything, but cannot acknowledge these realities, does not know Jesus.
It is impossible to love until you have loved and accepted yourself, warts and all. It is impossible to love until you see people as flawed and needy as yourself. It is impossible to have spiritual parents, children, brothers and sisters until you know how to be these things to others. This is real maturity, real righteousness, being an over-comer.
Why is it therefore the "spiritual" camp find these words or realities so hard to accept?
What I have read here about Jesus and grace is what I experience over 30 years ago. It maybe new to you, but it is not news to me. What is wrong is the desire do condemn everyone else as religious if their expression is not the same.
This is not walking in grace at all, but condemnation. So I am very skeptical that this is not just self indulgence and often pure escapism.

In relation to our bible thingy.. I love this truth which our Lord brought forth
John 5:39-40 (NASB)
[SUP]39 [/SUP] "You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;
[SUP]40 [/SUP] and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.
We can "know" the bible but not "know" Jesus as the Lord showed when He was talking to the religious people of His day.

Well in your iconoclasm just don't get rid of that religious bible thingy.
I don't quite view it as going to God just to say I am sorry ( although I always say that what I did was wrong ). I view it as running to my loving Father to tell Him everything and to declare I am the righteousness of God in Christ because of what our Lord did.
In saying the above - I want to make sure everyone knows that sin is wrong..sin is destructive...sinning is not the real us in our inner man where Christ/Father/Holy SPirit dwell.
My view is sin "distorts" our view of God so we hide from Him as seen in Adam and Eve and actually through out the Old Testament. BUT now through Christ we have a new and living way where we run to our Father.
Maybe it's like we need air when under the water and so we rush to gasp it in...it is the same way as we rush to get be in the Life that our Lord has.
