Coconut oil is excellent hydration for your skin, plus it smells good. :)

Exfoliate your face 2-3 times a week, adjust the frequency according to your skin type. I alternate between a clarisonic and a cheap little face scrubber that looks like this

use a face wash/lotion with vitamin c - it has a brightening effect on your skin. I personally like the avalon organics face wash and face cream, they come in gel/cream form for the wash, and there's an oil free version of the face cream if you have oily skin, so you can tailor your choice to your skin needs

Spot treat the blemish with aloe vera on a qtip

Edited to add: stay hydrated, drink lots of water

Might want to check with a dermatologist about them to play it safe.

One thing that I always tell my clients; something very important to remember when treating dark spots (and this goes with any brand of treatment), you must, must, MUST wear a GOOD sunscreen in order for it to be effective. When I say good, I mean a dermatological sunscreen, such as La Roche Posay or Vichy; drugstore brands such as Coppertone, Nivea, etc. test for the absolute minimum UVA (you'd have to reapply it every fifteen minutes in order for it to be effective). This is very important!

Wear a hat! The best sunscreen there is is to stay out of the sun in the heat of the day.

I've read that a lot of skin problems is an imbalance in our system. Creams and stuff can mask it or help with it temporarily but the main thing is fix the balance :)

I suggest coffee mask.. its natural exfoliate and can detoxification skin..
just mix some coffee powder add a little bit of hot water (can be added a few drop of olive oil too)..
rub and let it sit 15 min then wash with warm water..

Oh, also, in regards to vitamin C: make sure whatever you try uses a potent, STABLE form of the molecule. The cheaper brands typically are not stable, so the vitamin C loses it's efficacy once exposed to the air. It's a very delicate molecule :)
