Most of the gospels are full of it...just watch how the Pharisees "act" up around Jesus' teachings...Look at Paul....he was attacked constantly by religious people accusing him of saying all kinds of things that he didn't say..it was only because they didn't have a revelation of what he was talking about..

Yeah it did, they knew what he was saying, and who he was saying it to (them) they did not question that he was saying something he did not say.

it did, for those who lived to ad 70 it hurt real bad,, for those who heard, and repented (like nicodemus and eventually saul) it was worth the hurt..
If you have no relationship with Jesus - you won't really care about confession and repentance, Sin flourishes when you keep it in the dark - bring it to the Light and it will be exposed - but men hated the light because their deeds were evil. Confessing to one another is for the assurance that in Christ, your sins are forgiven.

Hey Ben...great article on this subject! it goes against our religious upbringing and I "confess" when I first heard it..my brain said "heresy"...
But I asked the Lord to show me the truth concerning this subject. My heart inside me was bearing witness but it was hard to overcome the years of religious traditions.
The Lord through a series of different avenues showed me about 1 John 1 and now when I look at it..I can hardly believe I couldn't see it..it is so obvious!. .Revelation is like that though...
I listened to Dr. Brown's agreement against the gnostic view put forth here. He said Gnosticism was just starting back then when John wrote his epistle and it became full blown by a 100 years later.
I reflected on that and all heresy has it's roots in truth. The apostles were preaching that our inner man..our new creation in Christ was circumcised from our flesh. Paul called it the circumcision of Christ..of the flesh and of the heart. Basically it's 2 sides of the same coin. This apparent" schism from the body gives rise to all sorts of thoughts and in the unregenerate man - strange stuff can come out of that.
It's kinda the same principal as people calling grace believers that we are saying it's ok to sin all we want. Paul was accused of the same thing. My point is we can always tell what is being preached by the opposition that comes against it..if I am articulating that in a form that is understandable..lol

actually pharisees were good church folk, who didn't swear, curse, smoke, or do anything socially bad, went to church every day, read the bible, and prayed

Something to ponder for us who claim to have been "born from above". The "sin AND darkness" IS forgiven us, continually, and we have ESCAPED the 2nd death. However, when we "feel" like sin and darkness have surrounded US continually, the smarter and easier way to go, is to ASK the Father to relent His wrath upon us (in Jesus' Name, of course), of which He SHALL give it....LIBERALLY........AND FREELY.........AND OFTEN!......But, ya hafta ask!

Do you mean Discipline? God will bring that about regardless if your his child Psalm 89 and Hebrews 12 - what we should be praying for - seeing God's discipline and the peaceable fruits of righteousness through being trained by it

And yet..those that say 1John 1:9 says we need to confess our sins in order for God to forgive us...this is the only scripture they have..lol..t

That's not really true. The historical precedent was confession of sin over a sacrifice. In fact, there was no forgiveness without this. The blood of our sacrifice now abides on the mercy seat of GOD. There has been nothing written to suggest that we shouldn't still confess. John witnessed that we should. And it makes sense. Dwelling in the light means speaking the truth. If we sin, the truth is we've sinned. No use hiding it and dwelling in darkness when we can come to the light and receive forgiveness.
Ephesians 1:7 (KJV)
[SUP]7 [/SUP] In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
We have redemption = present continuous action...so this means we have present continuous forgiveness of our sins...and look...that hyper-grace stuff shows up again!...it's all according to our loving Father's grace that He has given to us in Christ our Lord.

Now...just so that there is no mistake...we do not need to confess in order to receive forgiveness...and we can talk to our Father and Lord about the sins we do ..

You have absolutely nothing scripturally to back this up. The biblical precedent is confession of sin. It's only how you chose to interpret certain verses, and your unprovable and bogus premise that John was only talking to gnostics in 1 John 1:9, that you have to make your case. Scripturally, it's a valid practice.
So, we ignore the clear truths in Ephesians 1:7 and Col. 1:14.... that is your choice!..it's not my role to convince you..I just put the scriptures out there and the Holy Spirit does the rest...some will accept it...some won't..it's the nature of the beast as they say...

Neither of the two verses that you referred to
in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace, Ephesians 1:7
in whom we have the redemption, the forgiveness of sins, Colossians 1:14
precludes the need avail oneself of the forgiveness that is available if sin is committed.
My little children, I am writing these [things] to you in order that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous [one], and he is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for [the sins of] the whole world. 1 John 2:1-2
