Hello friends I hope this testimony gives you hope in a time where
so many bad things seem to be happening in the world.

God is not dead - read this and remember He is still on the throne. :)

5 weeks ago my elderly aunt who is 80 and who I take care of, was taken
ill. Only the day before she had kind of slipped out of bed onto the floor
and I had to call an ambulance to check her over and get her up from the floor.
They said everything was fine and there was no need for her to go to hospital.
I told the ambulance crew she wasn't drinking much and they told her she must
drink more and left with everything seemingly ok.

Then the early hours of the next morning she was taken ill and I called an
ambulance again. They took us to hospital and carried out checks, then
immediately took us into Resus. There I was told her potassium levels were
dangerously high. I think they are normally around 3.5 to 6 and anything above
7 is considered fatal.

My Aunt's levels were 7.9 and I was told her heart could stop at any time. The
consultant said she had never seen potassium levels so high in a living person
and to expect the worse. Potassium is one of the drugs used for lethal injections
in the US.

To cut a long story short, we found out she had some impaired kidney function, not
so bad that in and of itself it was dangerous, but because she wasn't drinking
enough her kidneys were struggling, which in turn had led to reduced function
and so the potassium levels had built up to dangerous levels. This meant her
heart was not functioning properly which in turn led to a build up of fluid
on her lungs. Some of the drugs she was on for other medical reasons can
also raise potassium levels.

I don't think I realised just how serious it was until we were transferred to
an acute assessment ward. During this transfer a nurse carrying portable
resus equipment had to walk with us in case my Aunt had a heart attack
just moving wards.

The staff put her on drips and infused a solution to try to lower the potassium
levels. I was told to leave my phone on when I went home in the evening in
case anything happened. I barely slept that night.

The next morning she was still alive but her potassium levels had increased to
8.5! Various doctors took me to one side and wanted to put do not resuscitate
orders on her records.

I can't explain it but I just felt it was not her time to go yet and this was Satan
attempting to cut her life short. We have been through so much this year and
I just could not believe that it was right for her to go this way and in such an
awful way via a heart attack.

So I refused the DNR order despite the medical staff telling me what a brutal
process it was and that it would be kinder to put this on her records. They
kept telling me ribs break lungs get punctured and even if she survived
the resus process she would just die later.

It wasnt that I wanted her to suffer, I just felt that there was no need for her to be
resuscitated as God would not allow her life to be cut short, that it was
not her time.

Various people started praying for my Aunt and the second night I had a dream
in which an unknown man with a long beard was standing over her hospital
bed sprinkling her with water. The next day I started taking oil into hospital
annointing her and praying for her.

I took the the oil in an unused water sample bottle, I didn't have anything
else small enough. You can imagine the weird looks I got when I got it out.
It didn't help that the oil was yellowish in colour!

Day after day the medical staff kept taking me to one side talking about
do not resuscitate orders and saying she was elderly and had multiple
organ failure and it was all a matter of when, not if she would die.

Time after time I refused to listen to them I just knew she would be OK.
I think they thought I was in denial but I knew God was at work.

Well by day 5 her potassium levels were down to normal levels and she
was still alive. She was unresponsive though and would not wake up.
it turned out her carbon monoxide levels were dangerously high due to
fluid on lungs etc. So they moved her to a respiratory ward and used
pressurised oxygen to deal with this, after a few days she woke up.

Its been a long hard journey, my Aunt is still is hospital waiting for
things to be put in place at home, social services are making arrangements
for carers to come in etc so she can come home as she is still a bit weak
from all of this.

Her potassium levels are now normal, her heart function is normal,
her kidney function is slightly impaired but not causing any problems.
The fluid on her lungs is reducing but not causing any great problems.
She has been bed bound for 5 weeks and we have been told the fluid should
clear up once she gets more mobile. So still lots to prayer about.

The long and short of it is, she is alive, we are now going to get more
help at home due to all of this. A son who she had an argument with some
years ago has since made up with her. I have had the fantastic opportunity
of explaining to all the medical staff that my aunt is alive through the
power of God and prayer (they think I'm nuts but I don't care!), I have
also been able to witness to my family and explain my Aunt has been
saved by God. (They think I'm nuts too but I don't care!).

In the natural she should not be alive but in the supernatural God has
other ideas and has not finished with her yet and she is going from
strength to strength.

Praise God for His grace in our lives and compassion.

He cares about you no matter how young or old you may be. Dont
allow other people to write you off just because you are elderly. You
are precious to God. The number of your days is set by God not by
medical staff or any other person.

Thank u Miri,

Think about the story of Lazarus who's family thought that Jesus had written him off too but we know that the death of Jesus' best friend was that God may be glorified when Lazarus was brought back to life for the saving of many souls.

I see your Aunt's testimony in the same light. I think you for giving God all the credit to God. It's sad to know that in the medical community, the majority they feel that mere medicine is responsible for saving lives. I believe that one day, God will cause them to remember your testimony.

Thank you for everyone's kind comments.

I think the medical staff basically wrote her off, in part due to the
impossibly high potassium levels which in the natural were not
survivable, but also due to her age.

They kept saying things like, "she has had a good life" etc.
We shouldn't be so quick to write off elderly people God has each
one of us in the palm of His hand no matter the age of the person.

It got me thinking though, do we expect too little of elderly people.
God can certainly use them and has plans for them.

Three cheers for all you pensioners out there :)

So sorry to hear about your fiance. I will be praying for you. Just remember God's word is the last word
not the medical staff. I know how hard it is to stay positive when you are surrounded by bad news.
But God is bigger than your bad news.

From one nut to another, you are nuts. But it's a good kind of nuts and you're not wrong. And nuts isn't a bad thing. (I'm reading this to get a sense of what's going on in your new prayer request. I have been praying for you and your aunt, but didn't know this part before.)

Its good to know you are nuts. It's the people who are but don't know it
who you have to watch out for.
