I am looking at getting a tattoo of my favourite bible verse, and a picture of the crusifix. Not sure wear yet either my arm or back, but have been thinking about this for a while. I mean it is a christian symbol and I want people to know I am christian, but is this a good way of showing off? What does god think?

Dude if it's that? GO FOR IT! :D I mean it's an awesome and radical way of showing others how into it you are for Christ! We all don't know exactly what God thinks, but I'm thinking it's fine. Just as long as we do things for and through Christ.. and you should get it on your arm! Like have thorn roots crawling around and through the scripture and crucifix, that'd be sick! lol God bless bro!

Our bodies are a temple:
When the Lord created man and woman and placed them in the garden along with His other creations. He spoke these words in Genesis 1:31, "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day." When the Lord created the human body, He pronounced that the way He created it was very good. The Lord desires that our bodies be a reflection of His own beauty. When people tattoo their bodies they are tampering with what the Lord said was very good the way He made it. We should never mark our bodies as this is unnatural. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and we are admonished not to defile them. Tattoos on one's body is like graffiti on a wall. Having tattoos on our bodies does not glorify God.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20: "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

Pride (noun)
Pleasure or satisfaction taken in an achievement, possession, or association

Proverbs 16:5
5 The LORD detests all the proud of heart.
Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.

Curtis, I'm in the same boat you are, and i'm planning on getting one. A cross on my right shoulder with my favorite bible verse inside of it, I have thought the same as you, i want to show everyone around that i'm a christian. I also can find it a good witnessing tool, people will ask why did you get that, and you will have the opportunity to spread your faith. My bible verse is John 15:13, "no one love is greater than when he lays his life down for his friends." Go ahead and go for that tattoo.

I think that's awesome.
As for the Biblical quotes, I don't know that a tattoo is "defiling" your body. God gave us the desire to glorify him and for some people, that is one way of doing so.
Read Romans 12. It's kind of long so I'm not going to write it out, but the way I interpret it, is that if you believe in your heart that something is bad or if you have serious doubts, it is bad. If you believe that it isn't (and it's not explicitly going against another biblical command) then it is good and can be used to glorify God. So if getting a tattoo for you is a way of glorifying God, not yourself, then go for it. Just get one that looks good! haha

I like your point about using it as a witnessing tool. Good idea! It definitely brings up conversation.

I personally Dont have too big of a problem with tattoos but someone told me that with every different tattoo came a different demon.
Ill choose to believe them on that one. Wouldnt even want to risk that sort of thing so ill never get a tattoo.

Do you really believe everything people tell you. That is a ridiculous statement tattoos are only what you make them. You can make them for the devil or for God. It your choice. :)

Hey forgivenandloved, I believe what she was saying was not literal demons, but figurative. As in, if you get a tattoo and regret it, it becomes a demon in your life. Or if you get a tattoo it can be a reminder of a hard time. For some people, a decision like that made when they're young can turn into something they regret later... a demon.
Correct me if I'm wrong, Rachey. That was just what I got from what you were saying.

MyBagsRPacked, you are absolutely correct. Pride can lead to downfall. But the way that I interpreted comments made by both Curtis and Umpire, it seems that neither one of them are getting their tattoos as a source of pride. Umpire4God mentioned that he believed that a tattoo would be a good witnessing tool. It is not for you or me to decide whether he is getting his tattoo out of pride. It is a personal decision that is up to him to make and if he honestly believes that he will be glorifying God, not himself, then that is what he'll be doing.
As for being good for witnessing, when someone notices a tattoo that honors God it makes a great conversation starter. Umpire4God will be able to use his tattoo as an outlet to express his love for God to people with whom that conversation may not otherwise arise.
