For the first time in many years I have been giving serious thought to New Years Resolutions. I read that the practice of NYE resolutions dates back to over 3000 years ago to Ancient Babylonians. Not sure how to vet that information but it was interesting.

I have one goal for 2016... significantly increase/improve self discipline.

As I have thought on this topic and even researched it I was surprised at how difficult it was to define and even verbalize. My sole desire for increased discipline is to improve my relationship with my savior Jesus Christ. Increased discipline would allow me to properly prioritize activities and distractions in my daily life which will ultimately result in progress towards my overall goal.

Just curious what thoughts everyone had on NYE resolutions?

In his heart a man plans his course but the Lord determines his steps. Proverbs 16:9

I made a New Year's resolution a number of years ago which I have NEVER
broken....

What, no way you might say.

Well I will tell you what it was.

I decided that I would never make another New Year's resolution ever again. :p

*sigh* Miri beat me to it.

I was going to say, "This year I resolve to not make any new year's resolutions. Which breaks my resolution automatically. So with that over, I can enjoy new year's eve."

CWS... that is a great goal, and I would encourage you in it. Setting and achieving small goals is a great way to start; that way you aren't so easily discouraged or sidetracked by failures.

I have an oddball question... have you ever made it a goal, intention or resolution to simply hang out with a friend or family member whose company you truly enjoy and even anticipate? :)

Kudos to anyone that sets a goal and sticks to it. I don't see anything new with a "new" year, but I like that the symbology encourages people to better themselves.

My resolution is keeping the resolution for longer than 1 week.

My New Year's resolution is not to set up a New Year's resolution.

I feel that every New Year's resolution I ever made fell through after two weeks. I haven't made one for years.

Well, being an optimist, I could say I resolve to start dating. But who am I kidding. I'll never get around to it! LOL So, I resolve to continue to remain single as I undoubtedly will not put any effort into remedying the situation. Hey, at least I'm honest. Look at it this way, if you don't set your expectations too high, you are rarely disappointed!

"No effort?" you say! That's correct. It reduces the chances of failure. LOL See, when you go looking for it, you have an unreasonable expectation set and often find yourself disappointed, rejected, and most importantly, still alone.

I just take it day by day. If I meet someone, then at least there is a better chance of success because it was a random occasion. So, 2016, look out! I'm running at you headfirst with little regard to what you have in store for me! :p

Happy New Year!!!!

Thank you all for the great responses! I had a feeling the majority might fall into the "dont partake" category. :)

I've got a few defined, quantified goals that I've already been working toward , so just continuing those until they're accomplished. I'm making a vision board this week though, to help me maintain my focus.

Hey Dino...yes I actually have made that a goal but as I made that a goal around the summer of this yr (2015) I have been actively working on it. I moved to Tn about 3 yrs ago and hadnt really developed a friend base or community. I significantly increased my involvement in my church, volunteer work and joined a small group. Im still working on developing friendships here but I feel so much more connected. My family lives out of state so I see them as often as possible but talk to parents daily as we are very close.

Have you ever made a similar goal? Any NYE resolutions this yr?

I have made loose goals to invest in friendships more, so I guess that is the same thing. I tend to overlook possible connections, figuring that if someone actually wanted to hang out with me, they would say so. A few even do! Family are all distant, but I'm making some decent friendships through church.

I think I would like to spend time on my guitar and drums more consistently though. However, if I try to quantify that, it becomes work, and the fun dissipates quickly. No NYE resolutions though... no point in setting myself up for failure! I beat myself up enough as it is. :)

Or to put it another way, I know what I want and intend to stick to it.
Lol Sorry couldn't resist :p

Oh do it! And you'll have so much fun doing it too. Well other than giving more love this year, I intend to just continue what I have started doing the last few months. Thinking about it, my NYE resolutions never workeds. But when I started a change in habits, it's been 4 months and I'm still doing them. How. I have no idea.

Anyway, girl, vision boards are fun! I think that helped me stay focused on my goals too. I literally have a poster on my way that says keep calm and seek God lol. It works for me and many others too. That and, well, of course, I'll make at least one music arrangement per month, so by end of 2016, I should have an album, bahahaha.

To learn to love God more, to trust Him more.
To learn to love myself/see myself more as Christ sees me.
To love those around me with more of Christ's love.
