What evidence do you have that the 'gnostics' were not believers?
The evidence Is that word gnostic. And John wrote about It.

The audience was a confused church in Asia. The pastor there asked John to write a letter to help clear up some major doctrinal heresy called "Gnosticism."

Gnosticism comes from the Greek word " gnosis", which means knowledge.

The Gnostics were a group of people who believed they possessed superior spiritual knowledge.

They believed that all flesh is evil and that only spirit is good.

Because they believed that, they didn't believe that Jesus really came in the flesh - they believed He was an illusion.

They also believed that because sin had to do with our flesh, there really wasn't sin - sin was also just an Illusion.
(That's similar to people today who believe sickness is an illusion.)

The church in Ephesus was filled with people who not only didn't believe Christ came in the flesh, they didn't believe sin was real.

Gnostics are not believers.

Gnostics are not believers.
The word gnostic is not in the bible. They weren't even a cohesive group during John's time. Gnoticism is a genre of thought that anyone can entertain, believer or non-believer. There were those during John's time who had gnostic beliefs; whether they were believers or not, we don't know.

You're just regurgitating things about the gnostics you've read on new.modern.hyper grace websites. If you want to really know what they thought during the early church period, go read what Irenaeus wrote about them (Against Heresies, chapter 6). He knew them personally and wrote in detail about their beliefs. Their beliefs were very similar to what you believe.

Here Is a snippet from the OP.

The purpose of the first chapter of 1 John was to compare the truth of God to the error of gnosticism. John was addressing the Gnostics, who were deceived by their own teaching. He wanted the Gnostics to understand that what they believed conflicted with what God said. He was not, however, addressing believers.
Alrighty, then. We believers can simply ignore it.

If you don't believe JESUS was In the flesh,Isn't that gnostic?

1st John 4:1-3
King James Version(KJV)

1.)Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

2.)Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

3.And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

No that is anti-christ thinking...........

Gnostic's are those who think they gain stature from knowledge, they place personal knowledge before and above having a intimate relationship with the Lord.

Yes, that would be a gnostic belief. However, a person can reject that particular belief and have other gnostic beliefs.

I believe a person's time
In our lives is more valuable than gold

I thank another for their time shared with me, but I also tell all my flaws to friends from the start....not saying the courtesy is returned...but at least

.I will not waste anothers time in any form.

But God can read our minds.
So
My question is...
If God already knows I occasionally sin but I am truly beautiful INSIDE loving wise?

Question is?

Who need confess?
When God knows our minds secret anyhow?

We have a confused Church here, also, clearly.

Chapters 2-4 are about the Christian walk and how to have assurance of eternal life by how one acts, and in chapter 1 John includes himself in the teaching. Therefore the teaching applies to believers, if not John would not have included himself !!!

If "we" in America do not receive Jesus as our Lord we will die without Him. When I said that sentence....does that mean I have not received Jesus? "We" all have to acknowledge that we have sins and get cleansed.

The "we" is an all inclusive term...as in all men..

...same "we" in 1 John 1:8-9

No one can come to the cross unless they are drawn. It's hard to kick against the goads.

GOD so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosover believes In him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of GOD.

Exactly. Whether believer or unbeliever, if we say we have no sin, we are liars and are not walking in the light.

Not sure what you mean by "how one acts".I believe you must be reborn first.

IMO another way to say It Is that he was talking to believers and addressing non-believers.

1 John 2-4 is speaking to born again believers on how we are to carry ourselves in the faith, because our actions will be guided by the Holy Spirit.

If we walk around with hatred toward others then Christ does not abide in us..............etc.

Our actions will be proof of one who is born again having the Holy Spirit abiding in them, and if there is no Holy Spirit abiding there is no salvation through Christ.

When we sin that is because we gave into our fleshly lusts and desires, as we can not sin while abiding in Christ.

Therefore we are to acknowledge the sin/s we have done and this is where repentance and confession comes in. Acknowledge we have done wrong and ask forgiveness, and in the walk return to abiding in His way !!!

Walking In the light(believer)
Walking In darkness(non-believer)

Before being reborn, everyone has a sin nature.

After you have been reborn GOD has forgiven you and once was all was needed.

If John was only addressing non-believers he would not have included himself in what he said.

He would have no need to include himself if that was already a past done thing He did that no longer applies to him, but that is not how he put it forward. He still taught that walking in the light and confessing sins still applied to him as well.

He said you claim to love God ( being a believer) but hate your brother then the Truth (Jesus Christ) does not abide in you.

Showing how we act shows if we are truthfully a believer in Christ or not !!!

In the light (child of GOD)
In the darkness (child of satan)

Walking in the light (child of GOD walking in faith)
Walking in darkness (child of GOD or child of satan walking in the carnal mind)

After being reborn, everyone still has a sin nature. Forgiveness doesn't wipe away the sin nature; it just removes the guilt.

Amen!

John 8:12 (NASB)
[SUP]12 [/SUP] Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."

We are IN the Lord so we are in Light...walking in the life means to have our being in Him

What is walking in the light? Well, it’s obvious what it isn’t. It isn’t living a sinless life, or there would be no need for the blood of Jesus to cleanse us from all sin, as this verse goes on to describe. According to 1 John 1:5, God is light. So, walking in the light is walking in God

1 John 1:7 (KJV)
[SUP]7 [/SUP] But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Revelation 21:23-24 (KJV)
[SUP]23 [/SUP] And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
[SUP]24 [/SUP] And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.

Walking in the light = being in Christ.

Now we should be conducting our life here on this earth through His life that is in us and thus walk as children of light.

Walking In the light(believer)
Walking In darkness(non-believer)
