Our sins grieve him because they hurt his kids.
Sin is destruction itself. It is the destroying and tearing down of Gods creation. It is the poison that undoes all the work and inter-relationships that God has sown into this world.

God cannot agree with sin because it is rebellion and destruction of what He is doing.

Only a blind teacher would come out with this long description about sin without understanding it at all.

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God"

Sin is so fundamental to the problem between us and the Lord, if you do not understand what it is, you have never really repented, or known what Jesus died for.

The problem with knowledge of good and evil is people know something is right or wrong but not why or how.

What I cannot believe is the amount of waffle that is generated to say something simple. Sin is not acceptable, we need to deal with it. God is the healer, but it takes time and a long walk. If you cannot cope, the Lord will take you or you will fall away, but sin still stays sin.

I’m not diminishing the seriousness of sin. Your sins can kill you.

I’m saying God does not deal with us as our sins deserve (Ps 103:10). Rather, he deals with us on the basis of love. Again; your sin is not the issue. You are the issue and you are the apple of your Father’s eye.

It’s not about your sin

I know this is hard for some to process. We have been raised to beware sin, to resist sin, to run from sin, to overcome sin. With so much emphasis on sin, guilt, and shame, is it any wonder so many of us are sin-conscious instead of Christ-conscious?

We need to be set free from this unhealthy obsession with sin!

I said at the start that I rarely think about my sin as sin. Yes, I make mistakes. It’s just that I don’t think about those mistakes in the language of sin and guilt. Paul said, “Reckon yourself dead to sin” (Rom 6:11). How can I engage with something and be dead to it at the same time?

Since I met Jesus I no longer speak the faithless language of sin and death. I choose to live by the law of the Spirit of life. My mistakes are not sins, per se. They are far more serious than that. Rather, they are death-dealing wounds I inflict on myself and others (Gal 6:8). They are missed opportunities to receive and impart life.

“Paul, are you saying you never repent and confess your sins?” I do but probably not in the manner you’re thinking.

True confession is not listing your sins like they did in the old covenant – it’s agreeing with God.

And repentance is the same thingit’s not looking down at your navel but up at Christ who is your life.

You can confess and repent in an old fashion if it helps, but understand that those things can actually deter you from the main thing which is getting back on course before you smash your boat on the rocks of life.

When Jesus shows up to laugh at the folly of your distrust, you can either (a) put on ashes and sackcloth or (b) laugh along with him. When the Holy Spirit shows you how to be a better parent, you can spend the next hour either (a) repenting for being a bad parent or (b) being the better parent.

I say “Choose life!” Make the choice that releases his life into your situation. Typically this will mean lifting your eyes off your sin and onto him.

It’ll mean praising Him for His goodness instead of harping on about your badness.

I don't think you are lying.

I think you are confused.

You are banging your head against the wall and you think everyone else should bang theirs too.
Confused?

Everyone needs to learn how to speak from the heart, to let out who they are, and not be afraid. Jesus died so that we might become real. Being real is everything. And knowing love and loving is life itself.

You have not experienced this or else you would not speak like you do.

It’s not about your sin
You are preaching to a ghost of your past. I am not who you used to be.
People talk about discernment , but you are not exercising it.

I am not sin obsessed, it is you who harp on about sin all the time. What I am talking about is your denial sin is a problem.
A little yeast leavens the whole lump.

I started asking questions because it is love itself that transformed my life. It is love that is Jesus's message.

Yet when I come to hyper-grace it is love that is rejected or actually getting things straight within, rather it is preaching acceptance of sinful behaviour while having a broken relationship.

I have never been "religious" or a church goer attempting to buy salvation. From an early age I have preached and witnessed to everyone about Christ and the cross.

Rather than failure I have only known continuing growth and success while following Jesus.
My relationship with Jesus is as Abba father, on bended knee, knowing my need and glorying in His love to me.

What you see in legalism as a problem, I see people failing to know how much they are accepted and loved and need to be real with themselves within and walk in righteousness as they discover real freedom in their lives.

In someways we are saying the same things, but our cause of failure is different.
I hold it is people not letting love work through their emotional life and history, for you it is the desire to earn salvation by trying to be good.

We are never going to meet, because we believe different things and have experienced spirituality differently.
Unfortunately for you, Jesus teaches what I am saying and not what you are saying.

You cannot be pure in heart unless you sort out your emotional impulses. You do not strive for righteousness until you understand the nature of sin and its link to behaviour that is destructive. Emotions matter, and drive behaviour, so cannot be ignored in these discussions, but that is what you do all the time.

Oh brother.......your humanistic philosophy is endless.....as Grandpa says....come to Christ and He will give you a new life in Himself...you can become a new creation in Christ.

I have no doubt that you are a Christian - you just need to hear the gospel of the grace of Christ and then walk out who you really are in the Lord....stop 'kicking against the goads"....be free ....learn about Him and what Jesus has done for us.

He loves you dearly. You are His favourite. You are highly blessed.

Matthew 11:28-30The Message (MSG)[SUP]28-30 [/SUP]“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Your sins kill you. Absolute.

Jesus can heal you and teach you to walk in righteousness, through a redeemed heart, walking empowered by love from within.

Diminishing the seriousness of sins is done if we take the many warnings in the bible and make them out to be only worldly physical consequences.............

The warnings about sin in the Word of God do not just apply to consequences in the flesh, there are eternal consequences mentioned as well.

If we take and ignore or act as if those warnings do not exist then we are not acknowledging our sinful ways and dealing with them as the Word of God says to.

Acknowledging how we were is the only way to truly be healed in Jesus, without that acknowledgment one has not truly repented of their ways.

To say Repentance and confession is not done in the same manner as in the OT is faulty, as the Apostles referred back to OT examples in their epistles.

Some take and think that just because the "hand written ordinances" were blotted out, the other things were blotted out as well making the whole OT not needed/useless.

This is a lie as if all things from the OT was useless then Jesus and the Apostles would not have referred back to them for giving understanding to others.

Let's take this passage in the proper context..........

Matthew 11

(11:28) "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Saying: Give all of our problems over to Him and He will take care of them and lift those worries off our shoulders...........

(11:29) "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."

Saying: Accept what He did for us and following His teachings as they are about LOVE, MERCY, and FORGIVENESS, giving us assurance of eternal life by abiding in His way.

(11:30) "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

Saying: Following His teachings are easy because we have the helper in the Holy Spirit and the doing it is light as it focuses on one aspect, "walking in Love."

.......your humanistic philosophy is endless.....
Progress. I know you do not think so, but I am beginning to understand your closed mind and heart.

What do you think emotions are?

Emotions are the summary of how you feel about what is going on in your life, or how you should react to situations.
We start as babies timid, adventurous, with quick shifts from pleasure, wonder, to fear and knowing there is a problem.

As each incident happens we summarise our conclusions in feelings. Unhappy feelings are a place we avoid, and happy ones we try and stay within. It works to guide us through all the new experiences we have, until we have a whole complex set to deal with all the complexity of what we know and understand. The problem is this is often a mess, with conflicts and unresolved contradictions which psychologists try to unravel.

If Jesus means anything as the creator, he came to bring resolution and change to this structure, or salvation changes nothing and is meaningless.

You think this is a philosophy not a reality. I am not suprised therefore we can never agree. PTSD does not exist, or nervous breakdowns, or schizophrenia, or changes to personality because of brain trauma.
I wonder what you think anxiety attacks are, or how you deal with someone who has panic attacks. If you cannot answer such fundamental issues of life, your faith has little reality. Mine is practical, down to earth and addresses such issues.

Can a christian become a counsellor, using reflective techniques in your world? I presume not, as emotions are ignored as the main cause of the problem.

The message bible states it in that way because true love is never forced, as the message bible agrees with free will and how we still have the choice to choose to walk in His way or not.

If we are forced then it is not true love and not grace !!!

CBT - cognitive Behavioural Therapy

In simple terms this is the only counselling therapy that has shown to work for significant numbers of people.
The theory is simple. An incident happens which means you start connecting negative or withdrawal type emotions to situations which you used to cope with with a positive outgoing emotional attitude. This often leads to a cycle of withdrawal and enclosure.

CBT encourages people to remember how they used to feel about these situations and replace this expectation with their immediate response. When the result is actually a positive feeling this reprogrames their emotional expectations to expect the response that is positive over the negative projection.

What this demonstrates is a large part of life is governed by what we think will happen alongside what does take place. Various actions or things we will not do because it hurts, and other things we get addicted to because it makes us high.

Jesus comes into this world saying God, the creator loves us, and following Him is the best thing we can do.
Without faith or a positive emotional experience this walk would be impossible. Righteousness or loving people from the heart is equally impossible until it happens on an emotional basis, you cannot just invent it.

So understanding what we are is key to our walk, and walking within our limitations is also essential.

You can not grow in the faith if you don't recognize and acknowledge your faults and deal with them.

James gives a teaching on this on the man who looks into a mirror and see's the vial person they are, but when they walk away quickly forget (other words no longer acknowledge) who they were and return to those vial ways again.

We must continue to acknowledge our faults and with the help of the Holy Spirit learn to deal with them and overcome them. Only then can we overcome the world and have victory over sin !!!

Not acknowledging our sinful ways and dealing with them will hinder our growth in the faith !!!

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
1 Peter 2:1-3

I have a theory. Living in cities, in mass groups of vast communities we do not easily learn to have good close relationships. This lack of bonding gives us a distorted view of life that most would just accept as real.

How many people close to you have died? Have you had a friend die in your arms? Have you lost a parent or close friend at an early age?

You will then know the debilitating effect of grief that stops the clock, that makes a day an eternity, that brings massive sadness that does not depart for years. In years go by this was everybodies experience, it was part of the fabric of life.

Everything was very hard and nothing came easy, most was snatched away from you and often you had little choice from getting up to going to bed.

Today we live like kings and can choose to indulge our fancies. There is little emotional depth or experience, and you can dismiss discussion of emotions into philosophy. Even believing this is a valid argument shows the depths of ignorance there is all around. Little wonder there is also little spiritual depth, and simple denial of sin in this world of plenty appeals to the lazy and lax.

Healthy vs Unhealthy Confession

Grace is God’s response to our messes. If you don’t acknowledge your messes, you’ll never receive his grace. In the last post we saw that confession is one way to receive grace and break the power of sin.
However, confession is a word that is poorly understood. Like the word repentance, confession has been mangled through the machinery of man-made religion.

Instead of bringing freedom to the bound and life to the dead, confession is seen as the cost of admission into the House of Grace. “You wanna clear your conscience? Then start talking you miserable sinner!”
Confession is good for you, but only when it’s done right. We might say there’s good confession and bad confession (see 1 Tim 6:12). So what is good confession?

Very simply, it is the articulation of faith; it is agreeing with God and acknowledging your total dependence on him. And what is bad confession? It is verbalizing unbelief in the goodness of God and the finished work of the cross. The picture below illustrates the difference.

To help you grasp this distinction, I want to draw twelve lines between healthy and unhealthy confession.

1. Unhealthy confession is an admission of my badness, but healthy confession is a declaration of my trust in God’s goodness (Ps 145:4-7).

2. Unhealthy confession emphasizes leaves me focused on my needs, my weaknesses, and my shortcomings; healthy confession connects my need with God’s grace, his strength and his limitless provision (Php 4:19, 2 Cor 12:9).

3. Unhealthy confession puts the focus on me and what I have or haven’t done, but healthy confession puts the focus on Christ and what he has done for me (Rom 10:9-13).

4. Unhealthy confession requires no faith at all and so doesn’t please the Lord (Heb 11:6), but healthy confession is an expression of the faith in my heart (Rom 10:8). Indeed, healthy confession stirs my faith (Rom 10:17).

5. Unhealthy confession is based on the hope that I can convince God to do something or give me something to make things better; healthy confession is based on the good news that God has already given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us (2 Pet 1:3).

6. Unhealthy confession is begging God to forgive me; healthy confession is only possible when I know he already has (2 Pet 1:5-9).

7. Unhealthy confession is begging God to bless me; healthy confession is thanking God that in Christ I am already the beneficiary of every blessing there is (Eph 1:3).

8. Unhealthy confession perpetuates a cycle of Adamic self-reliance and death (Gal 6:7-8); healthy confession empowers me to walk in newness of life (Acts 13:46).

9. Unhealthy confession is hedged with excuses, finger-pointing, and blame (see Gen 3:12); healthy confession is an honest admission of failure or need underwritten by a radical reliance on God’s grace (see Ps 51:1).

10. Unhealthy confession is motivated by a perceived need to restore relationship with God; healthy confession is only possible when I am secure in his promise that he will never leave nor forsake me (Heb 13:5).

11. Unhealthy confession always follows sin but healthy confession often preempts it. By being honest about my weaknesses and vulnerabilities I position myself to receive the grace that empowers me to say “No” to ungodliness (Jas 4:6).

12. Unhealthy confession is agreeing with the Accuser that I am still a miserable sinner (“look at what you did!”); healthy confession is agreeing with the Holy Spirit that I am still a saint despite what I did (Joh 16:10).

In this life you will make many messes. Confessing-to-be-forgiven or to otherwise manage the sin in your life is like trying to clean house with a filthy mop. You’ll be busy but you won’t make any difference. If anything, you’ll make things worse by adding self-righteous unbelief to your pile of sins.

True confession is freely acknowledging your total dependence on God’s grace – grace for salvation, sanctification, and every other thing.

True confession is faith put into words. True confession is relying on the One who cleanses you from all unrighteousness.

Bad confession, such as religion teaches it, seems right to man but ultimately leads to death. Good confession leads to life and godliness.

Did Matthew and Paul say think God I am a saint, or did they say forgive me I am a sinner ???

Paul still considered himself a sinner 30 years after his conversion, and said he still had to run the race.

Paul never said the race was finished (salvation through Christ) tell the end of his life !!!

This is why western culture and the way we live in the U.S. has actually damaged the true teachings in the Word of God.

There is a few countries still that it's people face far more persecution then we can ever think of for standing firm in Christ, and do not have the luxuries or abilities to live comfortable relaxing and safe healthy lives.

Yet movements like the WOF or health and wealth prosperity teachers have their teachings by a number of them that says true believers will be evident in the possessions and perfect health they have, and those that lack health and wealth is because their faith is lacking.

This is bad and terrible teaching because according to the Lord those who are going through those tougher environments and yet still keep their faith in Him are more blessed then us.

They misplace what man thinks is blessings for what He considers being blessed !!!
