This war has been immortalized in TV specials, documentaries, movies, speeches, and more. But most of these stories were exaggerated. So what is the truth? Was the was necessary? And why were American Soldiers treated poorly by the hippies and protesters?

No we didn't need to fight it. The soldiers got treated poorly because instead of fighting for freedom, they were murdering villages of women and children so fat cats in Washington could have their political agendas advanced, just like the troops are doing for Obama in Syria.

This will probably be the only truth you will see in this thread lol.

Hope to visit Vietnam this year as it was the war that was on the TV almost nightly here in the UK during late 60s and early 70s.

Almost 58,000 US troops and almost 3,000,000 Vietnamese died...

All wars are terrible, but this one more so!

There is not much that makes me angrier then for someone to disrespect our soldiers. Many of them felt like they were doing something honorable by helping the innocent. Some of them dug wells, built churches and did various other humanitarian aid only to come home and be spit on and treated like animals by their fellow Americans. Imagine fighting an enemy who has no regard for human life and has no problem sending a woman or a child with at you with a bomb strapped to him or her... those of you saying disrespectful things about our Vietnam veterans, if you were not there then please have several seats

Lol so true. Just saw last night they were doing a little Vietnam special and thought I'd give the heads up. It's not every day actual history is on History Channel.

If you're hinting that American children wouldn't be fighting if a big bad invader like Russia or China came here, I believe you're sadly mistaken. Yeah the Vietnamese did some nasty stuff during the fight, but there shouldn't have been a fight to begin with. That's like when cops say that drugs cause all of these violent crimes. They don't. It's the fact that they are illegal that causes the crimes.

We don't often agree, but in this, I am with you. Except that I would extend to them an offer to do more than just have a seat. I would say they can shut their mouths.

I would say soldiers need a better excuse than "what I went through was crappy and I was just following orders so you need to be quiet".

An individual ALWAYS has an obligation to follow morality, even if that means disobeying orders and going to prison.

That being said, I think most soldiers believed the lie that they were fighting for freedom instead of believing the hippies, and that makes them good people but their actions very wrong.

Defense is just, Murder isn't.

Spoken like a true condescending and self righteous pacifist. I suppose our soldiers should have done the moral thing and let the enemy kill them. People like you are exactly what's wrong with our country

No, that would be the stupid thing. The "smart" thing would be to refuse a state altogether, but conservative and liberal statists would rather die than govern themselves. So then, the moral thing to have done would have been to refuse to fight BEFORE being shipped off, like all of the hippies.

B......8000) k, whatever that means.

It means that you have ZERO first hand knowledge of either the Vietnam Conflict, or the cultural revolution which occurred in the 60's. At best, you have 2nd person writings/speeches to review, and by reading your comments, it is clear that you are reviewing said information through a very skewed and biased mindset.

It means you really do not know what you are talking about......shoot, even DA SQUIRREL knows that......
