Anyone else?

I recently was forced by my daughter to download all the newer versions on my IPhone, IPad and MacBook Pro. On the computer, she made me download El Capitan, a whole new OS.

Well, I can barely figure out how to highlight on El Capitan. So if my Bible verses are not in red, but boring black, it is because the cursor was rolling down the page and highlighting everything.

But it is auto spell check that is killing me. Apparently, the new spell check does not understand that you need a period after an abbreviation. So in the middle of a sentence, if I put ESP "." For example - well, you can see that it turned especially short form into Extra Sensory Perception, and a capital in the middle of the sentence, after the period after the abbreviation. OK, I didn't do it that time, so here you have it again.

Esp. The It was ESP. Bad. I would like to abbreviate ESP. Without it meaning I have ended the sentence. It never did that before on any of my devices. Which leads me to suspect that someone at Apple does not understand the period used as an abbreviation. Or they are trying to force text speak on the few last of us who still want to do proper spelling, grammar, etc.?

Then there are the word changes. Sometimes they are clever - they actually change to what I meant to write. But mostly, they totally are in left field and change the total meaning of what I was trying to say.

So, is anyone else fighting the new "improved" version of auto-spell check? And how do I shut the whole mess off? I think I can figure it out on the IPhone and IPad, but my head is so messed up by El Capitan, and all the illogical changes they have made, I can't wade my way through System Preferences to shut the whole thing off.

The thing was, I was very happy with my old spell check. It warned me about what was wrong, gave me alternatives, and let me make the changes. Who is in charge? And did I mention periods just appear randomly in the middle of sentences? Not abbreviations, just ending the sentence in the middle of a statement. Or maybe auto spell check is just trying to shut me up? Hmm, I guess it would get along well with my husband.

My husband is loving Windows 10, that Microsoft "made" him download. But then, he would have failed spelling in any class I taught, so he has no idea what Autospell check is doing!

PS. If I have weird words, strange spellings, it is not me. You can only edit so much, before you throw in the towel.

My phone that I got had a feature where it would replace a word I had typed with a different word that it thought I meant.

I was actually so frustrated that I would yell at my phone.

Then my youngest daughter taught me how to shut that feature off.

Sometimes technology is dumb.

I have an iPhone, i hate the spell check on it. It has gotten worse for me as well, especially recently where it will change the first word in a sentence, even though i spell it properly to begin with. So i type 'Also' and it changes it to something that makes no sense, like 'Alonzo'. Seems to change many of my first sentence words into spanish names or words. I don't speak spanish, so it doesn't have a basis for it.

Microsoft 10, ugh... that thing is so invasive, you basically have to sell your soul to use any of the good features. I had signed up for it before it was released, but by the time i read up on it i refused to download it.

Sorry to hear that, Angela.

I tried to avoid downloading Windows 10.

.............40 minutes later, 3 guys dressed in all black showed up at my front door and got me to 'change my mind'
