In Christ means baptized into his body. It doesn't mean being in Christ himself. If your eyes are on yourself (your identity), they are not on Christ.
So we are in Christ but not really in Christ. Got it.

The stuff the natural mind comes up with.... we have to "know" the old man is dead before we can be aware of living with Christ.

Romans 6:6-8 (NASB)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;
[SUP]7 [/SUP] for he who has died is freed from sin.
[SUP]8 [/SUP] Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,

So we are in Christ but not really in Christ. Got it.

If you, a person on earth, think you are actually in Christ the person in heaven, you have some serious issues. We are united with him in one spirit. The same way a husband and wife are united into one body in the spirit of love. The wife doesn't live inside her husband.

Yes, you must snuff out any awareness of the old man because it interferes with exalting an image in your mind, i.e., your identity.

1 Corinthians 2:12-16 (NASB)
[SUP]12 [/SUP] Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God,
[SUP]13 [/SUP] which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.
[SUP]14 [/SUP] But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.
[SUP]15 [/SUP] But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one.
[SUP]16 [/SUP] For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ.

That is your gnostic leaning.
Uh..... The Bible actually comes right out and says He is living "IN" us and through us. Without this firm understand, I question what "identity" with Christ we might even assume existed........ Simply that we call ourselves CHRIST-ian?

I have to admit that I got that "unorthodox knowledge" in a fairly mystic way..... I opened the Bible, and read.

He lives in us through his spirit. He is he, and we are us. Christian means identifying with Christ and following him. You can't follow something you don't have your eyes fixed upon. If your eyes are on your identity (what you imagine yourself to be), they are not on Christ.

Now, THERE is some real gnostic thinking.
