I wonder how one can be sure if it's time to retire. I'm not exactly rich but I really can't stand my job anymore. It is terribly boring. My boss did offer to let me do different jobs in the department, but I doubt that would help. At my age, I doubt I could make the production standards.
 
I think there are many factors to consider before retiring. If you are financially able to do so, then you are free to do so. One must also ask God if there is a purpose to remain. Our mission field is where we are right now. Is there a reason to remain in the mission field of your current job? It is great that your boss is willing to let you try new things. Maybe you can start there and see if something clicks to make the job enjoyable again. It wouldn't hurt. :) Yet, there is also the consideration that God may lead you to retire so that He can bless another with the job you currently have. However, He could also want you to remain there a little longer to await the blessing that is coming. :) I guess it is ultimately between you and God. What has He said? Remember that going on feelings can lead us astray. But, seeking God's will and doing as He says is always best.

Hi resurrection maybe you could consider going part
time and make the transition gradually to see how it goes?

Personally I can't wait to retire, I'm 47 but far too busy to go
to work :)

I look after my elderly aunt and just could not continue to
do it all. So with much trepidation I reduced to 4 days a week
in 2014, then 3 days a week in 2015.

Ive never looked back it has given me more time to do want I need
to do at home, plus I also get to join in with the church activities
more.

I dont know what the future holds, but part of me
honestly doesn't want to go back to full time secular work if I can
possibly help me.

Maybe finances will dictate that I will have to go back to full time
work at some point. But I do wonder if God has other plans in the
future.


If you go to part time work you can have the best of both worlds
for a while.
 
Do you have at least a half a million invested, making money for you? Then go ahead and retire. Much less will limit a lot of what you will freely be able to do in retirement.

One thing I didn't think to mention is that there is something I'd like to do after I retire. I would like to hook up with a fellow singer-song writer-guitarist and put together a Christian music program that we would take from church to church. I've spoken to her about this and she was receptive, though hasn't yet made a commitment. This seems to be the direction the Lord is leading me, though I'm not absolutely positive. A lot is at stake if I retire too early, since I'm not rich (though the numbers suggest I can afford to retire - barely).

The idea of part-time work, or even another job altogether, is more attractive to me than staying where I am and taking another job. It is complicated, though, since I plan to start taking social security as soon as I retire, and if I change my mind and go back to work, I'm not sure what happens to my social security. I do know there is a limit to how much I can earn from a job if I am also taking social security.

Not quite that much, but I do have a pension along with my social security. My income would be almost the same as what I am making now.

we have this scripture memorized and on the wall to always remind us of Who our Faith is in,
and how we are using it daily.....
when our Father opens a door, we will know it, and we will also soon find out just how much
Faith we have by walking through or not.....

ROMANS 1:17.
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
 
I think if you are bored with your job and excited about playing music for different churches then it might be time to retire and explore that.

It sounds like you are quite set up with making just as much in retirement as you do working.

What a wonderful opportunity to serve the Lord!!!

I look forward to something similar in retirement. But that's a ways off...

I know my father retired at sixty two and after he sat around the house for a while he missed working a lot
 
Have you had a Monte Carlo Analysis done? This would tell you if you are ready financially!

Thank you, but the deed is done. I don't think it can be retracted now, and I don't want to continue to do the type of work I've been doing for the last 42 years.
