Oh I totally agree that people live how they want too, unless constrained by civil laws etc.

Yes one can choose not to murder, one can choose not to steal and some unregenerate people live good law abiding lives, yet they are unrighteouss (according to scriture).

Again you miss the point.. I freely choose every day ;) I can choose to write this or make a cup of coffee, I chose to write this first and then make a coffee ;).

The unregenerate man will freely choose to do evil and not seek God without any constraint or compulsion..its his nature and he is in bondage to it.. a slave to sin..

A believer can choose to do evil still to !!!

That does not change or we would never be able to sin again the rest of our lives.

God, Jesus, and Paul never once took choice out of the equation, and free will is all about the right to choose !!!

The definition means that you are not kept from making those choices or don't do those choices because fate dictates your actions. It does not refer to consequences for what you have done !!!

There is always consequences for choices rather a believer or unbeliever !!!

But a believer is not a slave to sin. He is a slave to Christ.

Anyhow, when we refer to the will and mans inability we are refering to soteriology. As the regenerated man is enabled by the Holy Spirit.

Slave is nowhere to be found, rather servant. A slave is forced. A servant has a choice, so Paul commands them to let not sin reign in your body. It's a choice to be a servant of sin. But of course many new versions change the word servant to slave.

This is just surreal what Calvinists believe.

They do not believe that "... man is ... free from constraint of [his old] nature to be able to carry out God’s command." Yet scripture says that we are given a new nature so that we can obey. If Calvinists do not believe that they are free from the constraints of their old nature, then they are slaves of sin.

They believe that regenerate man is a puppet that GOD controls. "...the reason we’re able to carry out [GOD's] commands is because God controls us and enables us to, not because we do it freely."

The word is Doulos

Why don't you do the godly thing then and inform me? I got those quotes, btw, from a reformed apologetics website.

Whew… I read all 12 pages.

You all are fun. I like it here, even if no one laughed at my joke. A joke that a professor of theology/arminian author told me. I thought was hilarious. Spurgeon said (this is my summary) that if God had placed a stripe down the backs of the elect that he would run around pulling up the shirts of people looking for it and then preach to them. However, God didn't give us stripes so he would preach the gospel to all instead.

When it's all said and done, who cares which theological bent you lean towards. Just preach the gospel of Christ.

I went to an arminian-teaching, modern worship song singing type bible college. Then because I didn't have enough of wearing skirts, snotty roommates and going to chapel, I went on to another even more concervative Christian seminary. Where I learned that the more that I learn about God, the more that I realize that I don't know much about God. After all of that studying I end up marrying a 5 pt Calvinist.

Go figure.

If theological harmony can live in our house certainly it can live here.

Off subject, have you all seen the Lutheran Insulter? I'm sure you theological nerds have, it's been around for a few years. If you haven't you need to check it out, it's Luther's best insults.

Good times

Through the years my personal theology has changed. I lean more to Calvinism now, but I wouldn't dare admit that to my husband.

Don't judge me Herosefromthedead. I know that I have a sick sense of humor. I'm working on it, I'm sure that some sort of therapy or medication would help. This site just brings it out in me. :(

I interrupted your argument. Please continue. ;)

This is so, so sad. To think that the father of the Reformation had such a way with words.

"You are a crude ass, and an ass you will remain!"

"Your home, once the holiest of all, has become the most licentious den of thieves, the most shameless of all brothels, the kingdom of sin, death, and hell. It is so bad that even Antichrist himself, if he should come, could think of nothing to add to its wickedness."

"You sophistic worms, grasshoppers, locusts, frogs and lice!"
