Are You Pro-Life?

[Depleted]

Well, I'm sure there's a lot of Scripture that allegedly supports Capital Punishment, but I think every interpretation of Scripture depends on how much the interpretator is twisting the words.

How are you sure on either? Either you know it or don't. So far all I've seen is you know very little about scripture or God -- at least on this issue. You're busy making it a national issue, as if that's the guiding light. Your "sure" is as sure as Sam Bradford was sure he'd win the Super Bowl.

I'll just say this... when I see folks who only care for a life before it's born and in the same breath are pro-death penalty even when the person is potentially innocent, I doubt they are really "pro-life". They want vengeance to be in man's hands rather than in God's. They want an excuse for not showing mercy and love, but for retaliating in a carnal manner.

Hip boots time! You've shown no mercy in any of this other then expecting mercy for whatever you want.

[Depleted]

I often wonder if people do that intentionally so that they create a superficial justification for their own personal beliefs that they know very well contradict the word of God, or if they are just misunderstanding and misinterpreting the scripture.

I give people the benefit of the doubt and just assume they are misinterpreting, but sometimes I wonder.

You wonder that as you do that? And you do know your words have proved that last sentence is ridiculous, at best.

I don't think using the PC label is doing any good. I am opposed to the death penalty because I don't think that is what Jesus would have done. I think what you call liberals would not accept my thoughts on how things should be. I am a conservative myself, and being opposed to barbaric ways of carrying out justice clearly doesn't make me a liberal.

LOL And this right after telling everyone no one CAN get God's word right. Do you even listen to yourself?

[Depleted]

This is utter silliness. I'm out. Keep playing your games. No one, not even yourselves, are buying any of this.

Its amazing ..Christians being beheading ..girls raped and sold into slavery all around the world...millions of babies being slaughtered in the abortion mills...and these folks set around and think about how to help killers and rapist in prison.

[Blithe]

Read this real slow..as many times as it takes for you to get it....
for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

Let's say the US outlaws adultery, homosexuality, fornication and gives adulterers, homosexuals, and fornicators an automatic death sentence starting now.

Would you still believe God ordains the US government to end life as it sees fit? You wouldn't have any sort of issue in this hypothetical scenario because Romans 13 says the government doesn't wield the sword in vain and it's function is to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil?

This thread is about capital punishment. If you want to talk about "abortion mills", "girls raped and sold into slavery", "Christians being beheaded", then go make a thread about it and stop trying to derail the discussion entirely on those subjects. There are some overlapping in discussion with those topics, but you want to completely change the entire thread discussion to accommodate entirely separate issues that deserve their own thread.

If the government wants to take vengeance in the form of taking a life, isn't it contradictory to the other Romans scripture?

Romans 12:19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.

Furthermore, Christ's teachings of "love, not sacrifice" reinforces Romans 12:19. Romans 13 is the authority of the government, not the authority to go against God.

If you recall, any time a sin was committed a blood sacrifice was needed, be it from the person or an animal.

I have to admit, you've given me a lot to consider on my pro-death penalty stance. I thank you for your input, along with Kenneth's.

Are you a mod? NO? Ok then... I have said what needed to be said in context on this nonsense about "pro-life" meaning you have to coddle killers and rapist.

Life in prison I can agree, but supporting putting one to death for their sins I can not !!!

It is not a matter of putting one to death for their sins, it's matter of putting one to death for breaking the law. We, as mere humans, cannot forgive sin. (We can forgive people who sin against us, but that's a completely different topic.)

If the law provides for capital punishment, and the convicted murderer chose to commit that heinous crime, he/she knew the consequence of their action. Yet, he/she chose to commit that murder and therefore chose to be executed.

If you say so.

This is actually a really good question. You could even add the government killing disobedient children to the capital offense list as it's biblical as well.

I have a feeling many pro-death'ers would be singing a different tune if this really happened though.

I'm sure there are better ways of addressing other people.

Have you committed adultery, worked on the Sabbath, stole something, idolized something, and so on ???

God's law given through Moses in the written ordinances carried curses that you should be put to death for breaking those laws.

Galatians 3:13 says by Christ we have been redeemed from having to face those curses.

In John 8:1-11 they brought this woman to Christ to see if He would go against the law, but Jesus instead of going against the law told them "he who is without sin cast the first stone."

By the law one caught in adultery was to be stoned to death, but Jesus showed that no person had the right to make this call on her life because all are guilty of sin !!!

If you believe in the death penalty you are still casting stones at one for their crime(sin) when you are guilty as well !!!

That is called being a hypocrite..........Sorry but that is what Jesus said and showed !!!

Also Jesus said "NO" to the ordinance of an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, etc.........In other words we are not to repay the person back in the same manner in which they did any more !!!

Killers and rapists BELONG in prison for the crimes they've done. That being said, they should at least get life in prison, though not necessarily the death penalty. Unfortunately you nor I nor anyone else, gets to decide who gets the DP and who doesn't. Besides, most killers and rapists are NOT sorry for their crimes, nor do they repent them.. jmo

I agree with some of what you said here, but does them not being sorry or not repent have any basis on how we are told to still act by the Lord ???

It shouldn't as how another acts should never influence or draw you away from how you are to be in Christ !!!

The governments and authorities can carry out whatever laws they want, does that mean we have to support or endorse them ??? No !!!

If that was the case when the beast/man of sin comes in the picture (if there is no pre-trib rapture) then those who defend the laws now I fear and am sadden for them that they would follow the AC's system.

I fear that because Revelation clearly shows those believers that turn to follow him will not have eternal life !!!

That is true, most of them don't understand nor want to understand the pain they are causing. Most of them should never be let out of prison (most likely none of them).

[hornetguy]

You are confusing the State executing criminals for the Church executing them. We are to respect and obey our government. That doesn't mean that you agree with everything they do. Look at legalized abortion.
If the state decides there are certain crimes that demand the death penalty, then that is the state's choice, not mine.

And, unborn children have committed no crime, so they cannot/should not be sentenced to death. I will fight against that, just as I would fight against a "death penalty for parking violations" or whatever other hypothetical situation you can dream up.
Death penalty for violent criminals, such as murderers and rapists? I don't have a problem with that.

If you are saying Jesus was against capital punishment, why did he not miraculously take the two thieves down from the cross and set them free? They were receiving their just punishment under the Roman law.

[SpiritualCleansing]

Let the government kill them all! Let God sort them out!

Romans 13:4 God gives the government the authority to execute the wicked!
