Mormonism is not just another denomination of Christianity, it's another religion entirely. Maybe look into what they really believe before claiming that they believe the same essentials. Also, Mormons do not view the Book of Mormon like any other book - a solid commentary of something, but they view it above the Bible. If something in the Bible doesn't line up with the Book of Mormon, they go with what the Book of Mormon says. And sure, they can be lovely people and very kind-hearted, but they're still believing a lie.

My great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather was friends and neighbors with Smith before Smith went west way back when. Before Smith left, he gave my relative the first copy of his book. My relative liked it enough to keep it, and then passed it down in the family. It stayed in the family until my great uncle donated it to a library. The library keeps it in a vault. The problem was the book isn't like the final version, and Mormons found out existed. They tried to steal it to destroy it. They were unsuccessful, first at my great uncles house, and since, at the library a few times.
It seems to me, if it were legit, there would be no purpose in trying to steal an earlier version.

Actually, the story in my family says he was a nice guy -- just a bit delusional. Of course, my family connection goes before he even left for Ohio, so maybe he turned into a con man later on.

What would you call it if one of your friends behaved like that to an adult he just met?
Stupid, that's what. I'd rebuke them for being disrespectful, and try my best to set them on a straighter path. I would not condemn them as Ugly did to me, especially if that kid was my friend, and ESPECIALLY not with such remarks that aim to injure rather than to reform. I apologize again for my previous behavior. I was mad that people seemed to be so arrogant in their responses, even after I asked for more factual responses. But I had very little ground for how demanding I sounded, so I'm sorry.
On top of all this, I'm pretty crazy about a girl (ha, I say girl, but that word hardly does her justice) who happens to be Mormon. What do you guys think of that? Kind of an odd question, I know, but I'd like to know your take on this predicament (if you can even call it that). Advice would be welcome, and, hell, it doesn't even have to be factually based. What do you guys think?
On top of all this, I'm pretty crazy about a girl (ha, I say girl, but that word hardly does her justice) who happens to be Mormon. What do you guys think of that? The book of Mormon was supposedly inspired to Joseph Smith after a visit from an angel called moroni. He was involved in many criminal things such as bank fraud and also a polygamist. He along with Brigham Young (of which BYU is named) went to Utah after receiving "persecution" in the midwest/illinois area and decided to up and leave when the feds were on him about his beliefs and crimes.
The most fundamental heresy they believe in is that Jesus and Satan were "spiritual brothers or equals" that is the most damnable heresy that any other denomination will never accept...
There is a lot of information on the web but a guy whose book I read called Bill Schnoebelen (ex mormon and ex satanist) was involved in mormonism when he was an unbeliever. The book is called:
Mormonism's Temple of Doom: Magick, Mormonism, Masonry by william schnoebelen.
He exposes the fundamental beliefs of mormonism and its ties to satanism and masonry. I highly recommend it as a great book for believers to be aware about the dark side and its gimmicks. The Bible says believers perish for lack of knowledge. It is imperative as believers to be aware of what were up against otherwise you become a sitting duck for satan to target and he will get you with his lies/masquerading as truth.

I am only suggesting that you take a break/pause before getting into a relationship with that girl, sure she may be pretty or nice but you need to know your faith is solid before going in that direction. Mormonism is a cult filled with many occultic influences (read previous book I suggested/watch video). If your faith is not strong, she could persuade you to change your beliefs on things and you may end up losing faith or becoming confused about your beliefs.
If I were you I would pray first about this situation and do some research. You can't just go blindly into anything in life in general without knowing about it otherwise you'll get burned.
As someone who had this same question a few years ago I actually visited a Mormon church and met with some of its members to talk about there religion an what they belive... First of all there not a cult and they do believe in the divinity of Christ... While I don't believe in the book of Mormon and I sure wouldn't use it as a scriptural references I can tell you the Mormons I've met are some of the most Christian people I've ever met. They may be wrong about the book of Mormon but they also read the same bible that we do and they the ones I've meet have been a very good example of what it means to be a christians.

Jesus is telling us that there will be no excuses when He returns. Why? because he has told you everything that will happen in His Word. It is written there and given in many different witnesses.
If you have refuse to study His Word, then you have chosen to reject His Word. It simply doesn't matter what your preacher says, but what matters is what Christ said. Have you read His Word with understanding?

They absolutely are a cult and they can be loving people without being Christians. But that most certainly doesn't make them the most Christian people you've ever met. A Christian is a Christian is a Christian. A Mormon is a Mormon.
the Mormon missionaries i've met are absolutely nice people, and we had a lot of good conversation, when we stuck to the subject of Christ as the Bible itself presents Him, and stayed away from actual Mormon dogma - which it turns out Mormon missionaries may be largely ignorant of, because they send them out while they are young and not fully initiated. there are many i am sure who truly love Christ in this organization, but are being daily deceived about Him in various ways.
Mormons i've met in online forums are a different story, when you start directly challenging their theology and bringing scriptural & historical evidence of where their teaching is false and contradictory. of course, i guess Christians online aren't always particularly pleasant either if someone comes along and tries to tell them their gospel is false, haha.. touché.
i believe as Christians we might have some things to learn from seeing how close Mormon communities can be, and how generous they are in some cases with helping the poor, and particularly how efficient and dedicated they are with evangelizing and missions work. by comparison a lot of us are pretty rag-tag, unorganized and aloof.
i love the missionaries i've met. i really do. i pray for them - and i feel a great sorrow for how i think they are being led astray, but have a lot of hope too. they probably pray for me too, thinking also i'm being deceived by rejecting their book and their prophets.
and there is no doubt in my mind or spirit about whether their prophets are false and their book is a forgery -- i read it with much prayer and as much of an open mind as i could, and the Spirit of God was quite clear with me, leading me to truth. but even more than their book - which is in large part a bunch of quotes from the KJV re-organized, along with a plagiarized fictional story about the American Indians actually being the lost tribes of Israel - if you look into what their prophets have said, it's pretty clear that they pervert the gospel with disregard for the scriptures they say they accept.

When I was about 27, I had been a Christian for two years. Two Morman missionaries ended up on my doorstep, and they gave me a copy of the Book if Mormon to read. They told me to watch for a "burning in my chest" when I read it.
So within the first couple of pages, I found three direct contradictions with the Bible. There was no burning, and it was apparent that the Book of Mormon was neither holy nor true. I gave it back to the two missionaries, and pleaded with them to leave the cult, after showing them the contradictions with the Bible. They were kind of stunned and left.
So so my questions to you are:
Do you know Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord? If not pm me and we can talk about it.
Do you read the Bible consistently every day? I had already read the Bible through completely two times after being saved for two years. I had a lot to learn, but I knew enough to recognize the counterfeit when I saw it.
Never let your passion for a girl convince you that Morminism, or any other cult is right. Mormons are all trained as missionaries. She may be just trying to pull you into Morminism, rather than caring about you. And she is setting the agenda, if she is trying to get you to read the Book of Mormon. Instead, you set the agenda, by using the Bible as your guide, not an extra biblical book, claiming the list 10 tribes of Israel were in America, and there is lots of archeology to back it up, when there is in fact not one single site of Jews in America after the 722 BC dispersal by Assyria of Israel.

The Book of Mormon says, "For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do," (2 Nephi 25:23). Yet God's Word says - For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast (Ephesians 2:8,9). It's not after all "we" can do but after all that "Christ has already done."
And what is it that makes you able to declare who is and is not a christian... Idk about you but my bible dosent say you can't be a christian because you read an extra book.. Jesus says not everyone who calls his name will see the kingdom of heaven but those who do the will of his father.... I may call myself a christian and so do you but we could both be wrong, because you see we don't get to decide who the real christians are only God does... But what I can say is I see a lot more Mormons out there trying to spread the word of God and trying to do what's right than I do so called Christians... So what about there other book, you show me a scripture that though shall read no other than the bible an maybe I'll agree with you... But you can't because the bible wasn't even the bible when it was written it was a bunch of separate books later brought together into one.
